RIP Chris Cornell - 52

Perhaps one of the most influential writers and vocalists for me, dead at 52. Getting to see Soundgarden several years ago was awesome and unexpected.

Saddened by this one.

Oof. I wish I'd seen him live.

Saw him twice solo in 2006 and 2010. Sound garden in... can't recall the year they reunited. 2013 maybe?

Anyway, this guy was so amazing live.

He has a big part in the Pearl Jam 20 documentary. Highly recommend watching that. Totally changed my perception of him.

Something to play effing loud today.

What? No! Damn good singer.

Temple of the Dog cover to cover is among the best albums ever.

Man, 52 is so young.

f*ck

Saw him live when Soundgarden was just emerging when they opened for GnR in the 90s. This sucks.

I just double-checked, and my instant memory was correct: my first exposure to them was on the soundtrack to Road Rash on the 3DO. I remember their song being the standout for that game; whatever that track was (I can't find it quickly) more or less defined that title for me. It was a fun game, and their strong presence helped make it extra-memorable.

I never really tracked them down and got into them, and I'm realizing I probably should have. Now I'm all bummed out.

Not like they'll see it or anything, but my condolences to his family. 52 is awful young.

Got me curious so I looked it up. 'Rusty cage' apparently. Good track.

It was very good! And it was a real new sound in '91, when Road Rash first shipped.

This is my song for today.

Maybe my song for 2017 so far.

RIP

Among my favorite singers of my teen years. Reports are saying possible suicide now.

Wow.. I'm getting misty eyed. Holy crap... is this what it's like to get emotional about a celebrity passing? I've seriously never gotten this bummed by someone I didn't know dying. His music was a huge part of my teens and into my early 20's. I had always heard he'd struggled with depression and anxiety. This one hurts.

Soundgarden was far and away my favourite band in high school. RIP badmotorfinger.

Saw Soundgarden in 1990. On top of being just a great band, Cornell really was an epic presence. The music was nothing the same, but I imagined it was like seeing Led Zeppelin in the day. He just had that ability to connect with the crowd, while also appearing to be superhuman.

He turned out to be just a really seeet person from all accounts I have seen. Just feeling so bad for his family and friends.

Really saddening. Superunknown is one album I still listen to start to end. No dud songs to skip past. And the opening to Casino Royale was made by You Know My Name.

Guh. I heard about it on my way to work this morning while listening to NPR. I knew he had his demons with drugs and so forth, but I thought he had worked his way through them.

The selfish part of me is bummed since I hadn't managed to see him in concert yet.
So sad that he is gone. The suddenness makes it all the worse.

Sad.

Here are a couple of my fave solos of his:

Dude had a monster voice. RIP.

Officially confirmed as suicide.

I almost never listen to the radio anymore, but this morning my phone didn't sync up to the car properly so it defaulted to the rock station I had it on last. I'm taking the kids to daycare when Black Hole Sun came on. I hadn't heard it in a while, so I turned it up and started rocking out... when the radio host cut in to say he died last night. Killed my good vibes pretty damn quickly.

RIP.

Very dispiriting. In the early 90s, Pearl Jam was my..uh...jam, but Soundgarden was a close second, carrying with them some cachet of being a bit less "obvious."

Listening to Louder than Love, 2nd album by Soundgarden. Hard to believe it's nearly 30 years old, it came out in 1989. Badmotorfinger is probably my favorite though. Not a weak link in that chain.

The cynic in me is thinking where all of the crazies are that would say "Where was Courtney Love last night?"

Sucks. Kurt's gone, Layne's gone, Chris is gone. What voices are left, Eddie Vedder, Mark Lanegan, Jerry Cantrell? I know I'm missing some on both sides here. Sucks.

Big Dumb Sex is still a good song to play for no reason whatsoever. They played a really quick set at Metalpalooza back in the 90s with Metallica and others, opened their set with DOOM gameplay sounds.

Yeah Big Dumb Sex was in heavy rotation on my friend's party-pad stereo. Such a dumb song. Big and sexy and dumb

edit: Also Weiland's gone.
