Dead Cells Catch-All

Honestly the blueprints feel like the need higher drop rates. I only get one every 5 runs it feels like.

You can force blueprint drops with the blue sphere item ... (quick google search...) the Hunter's Granade.
It's actually quite complicated to use.

Yeah I just unlocked that as an option to spend points and googled it last night. Sounds crazy. I'll spend my orbs on other stuff for a while

It's a very invasive way to design around loot drop. I think it's difficult to use on purpose so players will lean towards an "organic" loot drop path rather than farm every enemy in the game.

Well I finally made it past the concierge. Had a great heavy bow drop from some elite and that with traps made it a breeze. Game is really opening up. Compared to the difficulty back a year ago this game has really come along. I can't stop playing it.

I find it interesting the multiple paths that open up. I can make it to the Black Bridge and defeat the boss consistently now. But if I instead take the alternate path to Ossuary, I can't even get to Black Bridge. And I stumbled on a clearly placed Elite enemy there, that I'm guessing has an other rune. So I'm going to keep trying to beat this lower ranked part to open up more parts, even though I could go past the Bridge. It's cool.

Finally saw the 2nd boss.

Damn.

Had a great run, this toxic bow, great rare sword, and gravity grenade. I just mowed through the 2nd group of levels (stilts, etc) without any trouble at all. Never even used my revive after death power all the way there. Was going really smooth.

But first time I saw the boss, tough to dodge attacks. Got it to the final phase, around 25% health, but couldn't finish. Gravity grenade didn't help at all. I think I actually had enough orbs to craft another grenade before the fight, and maybe I should have. Oh well.

Got to Forgotten Crypt last night - oof, that's a rough twist...

Spoiler:

potentially made rougher by my trap-dependent build at the time. Needing to stay close enough to the traps to keep them running was ultimately my undoing at the hands of the darkness.

My only problem with this game is that a single run is taking over a half hour now. Where the 5-10 minute early runs were scratching one itch, this is now a different experience.

Ram Rune finally!

And I beat the 2nd boss again on a different run today, but that final level is kicking my ass still.

I now have all the runes unlocked, but the last level before the last boss keeps kicking my butt. I havent found a good combination to get through it. Almost had it last run but got stun locked against a wall

Although it certainly makes the game easier, I'm starting to hit the point where gear isn't the be-all and end-all for how I do. (That being said, my best run by far was with a couple of golden weapons, a pike and throwing knives. ) I've beaten the Concierge a couple of times now and I understand him better. I'm now trying to clear the Ossuary.

Man, this is a good game. The single player drop-in/drop-out mechanic may be the best thing ever, especially to Jonman's point above.

I think this just officially released. Hadn't heard about it until a few days ago when I listened to the Crate and Crowbar podcast. Ended up watching the GB quick look, and it looks pretty cool. I haven't had the urge to play a game in ages but I think I'm gonna buy this. Not sure how well it'll run on my MBP though

I believe the official 1.0 is tomorrow.

Steam did patch tonight so maybe.

Switch version tomorrow so should be official.

I'm running on an 8 year old i7 with 6GB of RAM and it runs beautifully. If that's comparison that's useful in any way.

Dropped into this again last night. Got wrecked by the stupid scorpions but had a lot of fun. Is the Frost blast new? First time I had used it and I started to think I was OP. Until the wreckage by the aforementioned scorpion friends.

It runs just fine on my ultrabook with basic intel integrated graphics, if that helps

I've got this on PC already, but kind of bounced off it. I suspect I might be more into it in mobile format, so I was considering a double dip on Switch. Then I missed the preorder discount by an hour, and now I'm annoyed on principle, so I'll probably just give it another try on PC, bounce off again, and conclude that the difficulty and roguelite format isn't for me. Too bad, I really like the basic gameplay and graphics.

I love this game. I put so much time into it already on PC and I don’t want to go through it all again on Switch. But, I highly recommend this game if a metroidvania rouge-like sounds appealing to you. It is not easy though.

Thanks, I might give it a shot then. I'll probably build a PC in the near future anyway.

I preloaded this on Switch to get the 20% discount. I've probably put an hour into it at this stage and I'm loving it! I'm just mindlessly trying to progress as far as I can, pumping cells into cheap unlocks and whatever looks cool/useful. Is there a downside to going in without a specific strategy in mind?

Really liking the bow so haven't tried the shield at all yet.

Yeah for the most part I don't bother with shield either. I think the second boss is easier with one. Maybe a couple other enemies. But it might be a while before you even reach that boss.

I made it to my first Elite and got my first rune. Feeling pretty good about myself right now! I'm guessing it'll all be downhill from here though.

Gave the 1.0 PC release another spin this morning. How long before you start getting enough cells in a run to actually unlock things? I'm up to the ramparts, and most runs wind up only getting me in the 7-10 cell range, which is only enough to make a small chunk of progress toward all the unlocks I have available. It's a big downer to feel like my runs are mostly worthless in terms of tangible progress toward new stuff. Am I just bad, or do a lot more cells start dropping later?

Are you going to the Ramparts as your second area? I tend to end up there as my third so by then I've gotten 20-30 cells. Maybe I've just been getting lucky? I'm also still at the stage where runs are so much fun that I don't mind the grind.

I had no idea there was another option. I sure haven't found it. I usually get to cash in the 7-10 I have from the area before ramparts, then die in ramparts with around 20 and a blueprint or two on me.

Once you can clear Ramparts it goes. Honestly give it a little bit more and you'll know if it has hooks in you. If not then yeah maybe not for you. Some runs I got 20 cells others I ended up in regions I had no idea exist on a good run.

Actually preordered this on Switch. Can't wait to try it out tonight after work!

So Ramparts is usually the third area for me if I take the most obvious/straightforward route. The order of the 'biomes' seems to be pretty consistent even if their layout is randomised. I wonder if that's a difference between the PC version and Switch?

I'm actually having a great run right now. Got the throwing daggers (might have the name wrong) that cause bleeding, bear traps II, ice grenades and the sword that causes bleeding. Had the electric whip in my last run, that was a lot of fun in combo with the throwing daggers.

You can also do speed runs to really get orbs. If you make it to the 2nd area (either one) under 2 minutes there is a gate that closes on a timer. In it there's a chest with maybe 20 orbs.

Same thing for third area, under 8 minutes.

So you can do some rushed runs not killing everything and get some helpful upgrades.
