Mario Kart 8 - Ready to Play GWJers

As far as I can tell there doesn't seem to be a really great way to let people on your Nintendo Switch friends list know that you are ready to play against them in Mario Kart 8.

So the purpose of this thread will be to see if anyone is currently wanting to play Mario Kart 8 on switch with any other GWJers.

My friendcode is 6320-3923-4232 and I've created a room in the Switch if anyone wants to join and race.

I'm trying to join, let's see how this goes.

EDIT: Seemed to work!

I think I see you! About to start!

Good race! Do you have any chat system?

Good races! I tried to say goodbye (life calls) but I'm not sure if it worked.

Glad to see this worked!

I'm on Curse (which I guess is now Twitch chat) - sent you friend request. Not used it much so far.

Thanks for the races! It was fun!

For those of you reading, we got in a good few games. We are also disconnected randomly at least once.

We could also communicate with each other through about 15 Nintendo approved phrase boxes.

None of which were "Dammit, I thought I had that one!"

Yeah the Curse-Switch thing is confusing. But seems like it will work.

I believe this link will work as an invite to the GWJ room, if people don't have it yet.

There's a handy Nintendo Catch-All room, which should work from now until Splatoon 2.

Cool idea. I was looking to play with people yesterday but all I saw was their name. Didn't seem like it even asked if they wanted to play multi with me.

Dropping in for when I get to join in on the shenanigans.

Favorited this thread. I want to do this, although the NBA Playoffs are taking up a lot of my nights for now.

Basketball on TV, Switch on the couch in hand. Perfect.

PS: Spurs in 5.

Started another room!

Playoffs? Dang I'm out of touch with sports this year.

Hi Tempest!

Do you want to use a voice chat somewhere?

Good game! Wish there was some better way to say goodbye (in game) when life calls.

I'd like to try and organize a time for everyone here to get online at the same time for one big giant game of Mario kart with as many GWJers as possible playing against each other. Anytime really good for people?

I could be available tomorrow for such an event. Sometime between 4pm & 8pm PST.

Edit: In a more general sense, I'm usually available to reliably play games Tuesday, Thursday, and/or Friday evenings during the same times as listed above. If there is enough interest in setting up something semi-weekly..?

At some point I'll try and get in with you all on a weekend. I have too many other games I'm focused on right now, though, so who knows when I'll get to it.

Dinner can be somewhat variable in my house, but times between 5 and 9 PDT can usually work.

So, my left JoyCon stick pulls to the left when I'm not touching it.

Is that a Mario Kart issue, or a hardware issue?

I had something like that happen during a race. But I think I was holding the left joycon down below my ottoman and the signal was blocked.

Maybe.

Only happened a couple times during one race

Just tagging this. My times are so screwed up with a month old kid. If I'm on and see people, I'll play.

That was fun! I was actually on Twitch and Discord at the time waiting for a Battlegrounds round to finish!

I have this same issue and its weird because it pulls to the left whether I'm using a single joycon horizontal or if I'm using the joycon holder thing in vertically.

Had an early morning racing session with the kids today. Casey, six, and Trip, four, did pretty well with the auto pilot feature engaged.

But my four-year-old kept beating my six-year-old, and it wasn't because he was better at the game. It was because he just let the cart drive itself more often where as my six-year-old was trying to drive it the whole time, and therefore crashing more frequently.

The autopilot feature definitely makes it good for younger players, but I have no idea why they ended the feature where the match automatically ends when the 11th crosses the finish line, just giving last place to the 12th person without waiting for them to cross the finish line

It was such a timesaver for younger players and I don't think the 12th person really gets much from finishing the match when everyone else is already done. It just seems like it slows down the flow of the game.

I've been complaining about this since approximately the day Mario Kart 8 launched. Imagine how terrible it was before smart steering and smart acceleration!

Any chance it's something they could patch?

Easily, but since they never did so for MK8, and created those new kid-friendly features for 8D, I would bet heavily against it.
