Call of Duty: WWII - Catch All

Well it's official.

They're going back to their roots...

another teaser leaked ...

Battlefield WWI might have took them by surprise with its financial success. Sounds like everybody is tired of double jumps and wall running, just wanna empty a carbine in the enemy or drive a Sherman.

Never!

It's a bit 'Saving private Ryan - the game.' Other things happened in WWII other than D-Day.

According to them they started development on this 3 years ago. So 1.5-2 years before bf1 released.

TLDR

No wall running
New gameplay modes
Implementing 'Divisions' Which will transform your MP progression
Coop mode is a 'horror' story involving Nazi Zombies
New 'social hub' experience similar to Destiny

More like 'Band of Brothers' from what they've shown so far.

Very possibly. I just wish they'd looked at the war form a fresh angle rather than redoing the same thing everyone, including them, has in exactly the same way. Obviously the game could go to other theatres and this is just a small taste but it doesn't bode well that their big reveal is landing craft and troops storming beaches again (that sequence was very Private Ryan-esque.)

I agree with the other posters that we appear to have seen this campaign before; several times. I haven't played the CoD canon, so I don't know how much variety it has exhibited in the past. All I can say is that I think Battlefield 1's campaign set quite a high bar for this kind of thing, and it doesn't look currently like CoD will clear it.

Of equal interest to me (I use the term loosely) is the multiplayer. I played MW, MWII and Blops 1... then I got tired of circling the same time of arenas time after time, and stopped playing. Unless this has changed, I can't see myself buying in to this. Battlefield 1 has spoiled me...

Love the maps
Love the weapons
Love the vehicles/payloads
Love the destructible objectives with the bridges.

HATE, Hate, hate the PS4 exclusivity. Hopefully they do away with that bullsh*t all together next year and not swing it the other way to Xbox.

It's been a good decade or more since the "LOL more WW2 games" meme had any truth to it. I'm guardedly optimistic about there being a good mainstream WW2 FPS again. We're due.

I would love to see this franchise cross over with the Wolfenstein alternate reality franchise that Bethesda is doing right now.

I just want them to build a new engine. The COD engine was looking dated 5 years ago. I'm glad we are going to get a game without robot legs and wall running though.

I'll post this link here, but it almost deserves a thread of its own.

Open Beta on PC next weekend right? 29th or something?

This same refrain... I'm older than the writer and do just fine. To be honest anyone can if they want to put the time in. The thing is as we get older we don't always have the time. If you can't accept that then that's on you. When hearing these 20-30 somethings going on about how they're too old to be good is just silly.

A more honest article would be about the declining audience for these type of games. We've discussed it some in the Lawbreakers thread, but the audience for these type of shooters are growing out of the genre or being enticed by shooters that have you part of a larger team or higher risk/reward scenarios.

We’re less than a week away from the PC Open Beta for Call of Duty: WWII on Steam. The response from our Beta announcement continues to energize the development teams, and we can’t wait to get going on September 29th!

We’ve worked hard to tune the gameplay experience to PC, and throughout Beta and after, we’ll continue to optimize gameplay for PC. For this reason, we have disabled Aim Assist during the PC Open Beta. It’s important that we ensure the optimal gameplay experience natively for PC players, and we made this decision with that objective in mind. We believe this will help us to deliver the most helpful performance data possible so that we can fully optimize for launch.

The content for the PC Open Beta will mirror the final weekend of the previous Multiplayer Beta on console. Here’s an overview on what you should expect in the PC Open Beta:

Maps – Four Multiplayer maps: Pointe du Hoc, Ardennes Forest, Gibraltar and Aachen
War – Operation Breakout
Modes – Four Multiplayer modes: Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint and Kill Confirmed
Divisions – Five Divisions: Infantry, Expeditionary, Airborne, Armored, and Mountain Division. Players aren’t limited to any single Division, so try them all!
Progression – Players will begin at Soldier Rank 1. Over the weekend, the level cap will increase to 35, including progression to unlock weapons, scorestreaks, and equipment.

Similarly, there are features that we continue to work on internally that will not be present in the PC Open Beta. Here’s what you should not expect this week:

HDR Support – We are working to support HDR for launch.
Multi-Monitor Support – Not included in the Beta, but will be ready for launch.
Headquarters –This is an all-new social experience coming to PC players at launch.
Supply Drops, and Loot – These customization features will not be included in the Beta.

Additional content not in the PC Open Beta includes: full progression, remaining maps and modes, additional War Mode maps, and the full armory of weapons, scorestreaks, Basic Training, and equipment.

We’ll continue to keep you updated as we make final preparations for this week. Be sure to follow us on Twitter at @SHGames and @CallofDuty for the latest intel on all things Call of Duty: WWII.

Your feedback means everything to us, so once we kick off on Friday, please hit us up on Twitter as well as Reddit and Steam forums.

Thanks for all your support and encouragement! Let the countdown begin…

PC Open Beta can be downloaded on Steam from now, ready for the weekend.

Beta has started. I went ahead and created a channel under the FPS group on Twitch in case others jump in.

Yeah, gave it a whirl last night, man I'm rusty

Is it normal to repeatedly lose connection to the Host server? I've been able to play part of one game, and I've been disconnected at least 20 times. I've set up the correct port forwarding, I think, although ww2 isn't on the official Activision page.

I didn't have to change anything at all, and had zero issues.

Yeah, so the fix for me was ... hilarious. Switch the game to Windowed mode instead of Full Screen. Connect to a game. Switch back to Full Screen. Play.

Why on earth a change in display or resolution has anything to do with network connectivity ... who knows.

So the little bit i've tried to play i've had serious packet loss (if their icons are the same as BF)

Can't say I'm excited about this at all. The maps are tiny and claustrophobic, maybe 50 meters in diameter. After playing PUBG, it feels like a fist fight in a phone booth. Got multiple kills simply because I spawned behind the enemy. There's no gameplay other than run and gun - if you try to hold a position, you're instantly flanked and killed.

Been that way since CoD2

My latency problem was a lack of memory. I only had 8gb which was the minimum requirement. So went and picked up 32gb and everything is running beautiful and steady around 80-85fps.
