Looking Forward Catch-All

Did you ever play a game that was so good, but was just missing that certain something to make it great? Or what about games that are either part of a series or are surely getting a sequel that you'd like to see in the next version? This can be anything from mechanics, to story, or anything else you fancy.

If it's regarding story, please use spoiler tags where appropriate. If a game already has a specific thread, or if that thread is subsequently created, please move the discussion there. This thread should be for games that do not yet warrant their own thread because they haven't been officially announced.

Some obvious examples: Fallout 5, Elder Scrolls 6, Mass Effect: Andromeda "2"

Elder Scrolls 6

After Fallout 4, I really hope they bring the building mechanic to this game. It would be a nice upgrade to the Homestead DLC from Skyrim. I do hope they refine it a bit though from Fallout. I'd like there to be only a few areas that you would be able to first pitch a tent, then build a house, then a compound and gradually grow it into a village or town. I don't think you should be able to build in existing areas like you were in Fallout. Of course, I'd hope there is both a story-related reason to do so, but also be entirely skippable. I'd like to see the effects of the settlement somehow affect the overall world as well.

As to exploration, I always thought the Elder Scrolls games were the top of the heap in this regard... until I played Breath of the Wild. Zelda absolutely nailed the exploration aspects. I can't really say how it is different except perhaps that it initially didn't litter the map with points of interest. It just let you roam and discover visually instead of following a compass. If they can meld the Zelda exploration, with the Bethesda method of littering the world with compelling story elements, it would make for a fantastic exploration game.

Lastly, I don't care where the game is set except to say that I'd like to see several different environments. They don't need to limit it to one region of Tamriel. Let us travel to ther provinces or perhaps even see other parts of Nirn!

Elder Scrolls VI
Another thing Fallout 4 introduced was having greater chance of legendary drops at higher difficulties. That was one of my minor quibbles with ES 4&5, the character didn't really benefit from the extra bumps & bruises at harder levels, aside from self-esteem I suppose. I'd like to have a chance -even slight- of getting a super rare item for playing ES 6 on the highest level.

Also, I'd like the next edition to have more logical plotlines. Some of them, like the execrable storyline for the Thieve's Guild, could have been better written by a 5-year old. I get that Bethesda needs an excuse to drag the player into lots of dungeons, but maybe they can take a cue from Witcher 3's writers next time.

I just hope the people at Bethesda are required to play The Witcher 3 and take notes about how to do quests. Every time I fire up Skyrim I am struck by how bland the quests are. The world is beautiful, the lore wonderful, combat fun, etc. but the quests couldn't be more black/white or just fetch quests.

They could learn a lot from CD Projekt.

Yeah, I'd like to see more epic loot in the wild too. Maybe even some actual quests to find some.
