Star Wars Battlefront II (No, the newer one) Catch-All

Pages

Now presenting actual trailer.

Imperial raiders ... So good.

That's nice to see them transition from tabletop (X-Wing and Armada) stuff.

Trailer upthread, stuff on the campaign from Polygon. So they're like the Empire's Wraith Squadron. Neat.

Hm, maybe.

So there's a campaign now? Staring Janina Gavankar? I'm down.

I'm stoked for this. I will pre-order the deluxe edition, partly because I'm going to buy it anyway and partly as a petty reaction to how much people hated on the most recent Battlefront. Hell, I loved it. Got all the way to level 100. Whenever I fly an X-Wing, I'm like a kid again. Now that DICE has the engine and probably a lot of the assets nailed down, I'm confident that the content will be there to support the title's longevity.

My hopes:

They bring back all previous heroes and maps (updated for mechanics)

Micro-transactions are cosmetic -- and if there's a fanbase who will buy cosmetic DLC, it's Star Wars fans

IG-88, Zuckuss and 4-LOM

The tutorial level of the campaign had better be an Ewok massacre

I'm already really glad to hear they aren't doing a season pass. That hopefully means no community-splitting maps. The Titanfall 2 model is fair, I think.

It has space battles, so I have to play it. I doubt it'll come close to being as awesome as the original though, especially when you add this amazing mod.

Have to check that mod out.

They might actually sell me on the new one with a good campaign. I picked up the last one on discount. Barely touched it, sadly.

Same here. Just nothing to do solo and woefully outmatched online. Burned out after a week or so.

Will people be starting a new from #1? I did not get much playing time so would not want to be behind.

It's amazing. Best Gungan murder simulator you'll ever find.

In at whatever the highest pre-order level is and will buy Microtransactions.

Trailer really tugged on my heartstrings. WILL CRUSH THE BASTARD REBELLION FOREVER!

And tear out Jedi hearts and crush them on my heel.

Lol. Well that didn't take much.

Looks good. Hopefully they won't nickel and dime us this time and get some more unique maps. The recent one just didn't have anything to offer that kept me coming back.

Tagging

Pretty excited about this one. It is kind of interesting to think in that Lawful Neutral order sense so this could be kind of cool for that.

The preview looked good, though I'm not entirely clear on whether it will be possible to get in/out of vehicles during combat in this one. That's a feature I reeeeally miss from Battlefield that I was hoping they'd add.

Anyone get an email?

So I got an invite into the closed Alpha. Initial impressions are (admittedly only after 30 minutes) that they are trying to deliver Star Wars: Battlefield but with slightly 'easier' gun mechanics and a really odd loot crate system for a game like battlefield. It's almost identical to the crate system used in Mass Effect 3s multiplayer which it suits a lot better.

Time will tell. It plays well enough for a closed Alpha, only a little janky around the edges.

There is now a class system rather than a free for all (I think this is a shame) and you have to earn points to unlock tanks, heroes etc rather than running over power ups on the battle fields (this makes a hell of a lot more sense but is going to mean heroes are going to get hogged by the elite players)

Not quite sure what I make of it so far.

This is the opposite of what I keep hearing from press/people/etc.

Also, weren't the heroes always hogged by the elites who knew where the icon spawns would be?

Actually the new system is set up to allow more people using the heroic folks and not just the few who camp the spawn and not play the objective.

As for the hero thing - it's a nightmare to balance if I'm honest. The elite players will reach the points tally needed to unlock a hero faster, and they are less likely to die as a hero. It's the same issue, just a different pathway.

Disagree with this and what i've seen so far also doesn't hold this up so far. Granted things will change when the game goes live.

In this closed alpha you can have more than one hero at a time. Not sure that helps in terms of balance but at least it gives more options.

How is the gameplay compared to the first one?

People on Reddit are talking about the lootcrates in this game; anyone have an opinion either way? If they're optional and cosmetic like Rocket League (or Overwatch, I'm told), then that doesn't bother me. Anything that does have an effect on gameplay is a turn-off.

I think it's better. The inclusion of classes and battle points allow you to play the way you want and get rewarded for PTFO. I also didnt think it was possible, but graphically it looks superior as well.

Yea be prepared to be bothered. Allows you to upgrade specific stats of cards by 4 or 5 increments.

I also want to address the balance issue of heroes. They go down WAY easier than the 1st game. All of them have to use movement abilities to stay alive longer than a few moments in the current map we're testing because everyone is funneled through specific paths and the focus fire is very real.

It's just dawned on me - mostly because I'm an idiot - that I've violated the NDA I agreed to when installing and playing the game. I'm gonna delete my posts - not because I'm particularly worried about being chased down by EA but I'd hate to get this community in trouble! Sorry!

Edit edit: I realise this might not make a lot of difference considering you've all quoted me, but at least I've tried. Ooops!

We've discussed nothing that hasn't been discussed by folks on YouTube.
