Destiny 2 Catch-All

Just picked forsaken up on PS4 anyone still actively playing? I haven't played this version since beating the game at launch so I'll have some grinding to do but would love to add people to play with.

I am still pretty active. I'm not in the gwj clan on PS4 so send me a friend invite.

Have picked up Forsaken on a PSN sale to play while I wait for The Division 2. After getting a taste in the Beta am just really feeling a looter shooter right now.

I completed the Destiny 2 campaign at vanilla release and played a handful of hours after that only. It was ok but not enamoured enough to keep going. Reading good things about Forsaken though so for the price thought I'd jump back in for a bit.

Worth starting afresh with a new character going through base - Osiris - Warmind before getting to Forsaken?

This was a bit of a snap purchase after not really keeping tabs on Destiny 2 happenings at all so stepping back in a bit blind as how to approach it all.

Memory terrible, so I have no idea if I was a member of the GWJ PS4 clan. I'll take a look, but if anyone still playing and wants to team up with someone a fair way behind, add me on PSN.

I'll check if we're connected on the Rave. Will send you an invite psychotoaster.

I'll try to send you both an invite tonight or tomorrow probably won't be on much until the weekend though.

I started a titan and managed to finish the campaign again there doesn't seem to be alot of point to replaying but I enjoyed it alot. There is a ton of content in the game even of you choose to ignore the main story. Don't forget you also get the boost with the expansion purchase that will let you level a class to 30 and 320 power which gets you ready to jump right into forsaken.

It's been well over a year since last played in autumn '17 so have started a Titan campaign from scratch to brush up on play. Have a lvl 20 Warlock waiting in the wings from the original base game playthrough.

I was thinking of playing again on the PC, is it fairly active?

Currently it's a bit slow, since we're approaching the end of a season leading into the next big patch, and that's the time when folks tend to drift off and play different things. As for what happens when the next patch drops, that's currently a bigger question mark than usual, seeing as two competitors in the same space are in the process of launching as well.

That said, if you jump on the Destiny discord server and either chat in the #pc channel or ping the @pc group, you'll probably find folks interested in doing group activities most of the time.

So I am not sure how drops work. I am currently at a 570 area for my light level, and having trouble gaining more. Might help if I actually finish the forsaken I am sure, but my enjoyment comes out of the strikes and doing things with a group than the campaign. Problem is most of the items from that are lower blues. How do I go about getting better drops? From my limited understanding i should be getting things slightly better then my average Light level? I was able to grab the Vow, a LL 650 bow from the crimson days event last night that when equipped bumps me to 585. How will that effect my drops? Do I just need to have it in my inventory or do I need to be actually using it to affect my drops? I really like my current bow (arsenic bite with explosive head) and would like to melt the vow into it once I have the materials to do so.

Are there recommended apps for load outs or anything else that is important? I keep reading about Iron Banner, Xur and the forges, but I cant find anything like that. Do I need to finish the forsaken campaign to access?

Sorry if this is a huge word dump. I enjoy this game but have no idea what I am doing.

Whenever I am on feel free to see about grouping. Always prefer to do a group with a fellow GWJ'er

Destiny has two kinds of level caps -- the hard cap, which is currently 650, but will go up to 700 with the next patch, and the soft cap, which is 500. When you pass the soft cap, normal drops stop being at or above your power level. There's a lot of complexity to how that works which you can research elsewhere if you'd like, but generally speaking, past the soft cap you will only see power increases from "powerful rewards."

There are lots of sources for powerful rewards, and most of the time when you do an activity its info panel will indicate whether it offers a powerful reward or not. When you look at the map screen, it will actually point you towards some of the bigger, easier to achieve sources of powerful rewards with the gold circle icons that call out certain activities. For others, a bit of googling for something like "forsaken powerful reward sources" or "black armory powerful reward sources" should put you on the right track. This Reddit post might be a good place to start: https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheG...

The power level of drops is based on the highest power level you COULD equip, not what's currently equipped. So, in your inventory is good enough. In fact, it actually will even consider gear in your vault or on other characters, but I'm personally a bit superstitious and try to always keep my highest power level items in my inventory just in case.

The most useful app is just this website: https://app.destinyitemmanager.com/

If you mean something that will do research and suggest loadouts, though, I dunno -- I just do a lot of reading on reddit myself.

A bit of googling can tell you more, but:

- Iron Banner is a special week long PvP event that happens once every four or five weeks. It's a special version of the control gametype that's a lot of fun, and it comes with seven bounties that all offer powerful rewards. If you enjoy PvP, it's well worth your time to learn more and participate (I believe it will happen this week). Be warned though, unlike all other PvP, power levels matter, so you will be at a disadvantage to higher level players.

- Xur is a special vendor that arrives on Friday and stays until the weekly reset, who sells a rotating selection of exotics each week. If you don't own all the exotics yet, you should be visiting him and buying what he's selling every week. Visit https://wherethef*ckisxur.com (you'll have to fix the edit imposed by the profanity filter there) to learn more.

- Forges are content that is new this season available to owners of the year 2 Annual Pass. You need to be over 600 to participate, and you probably need to have finished the main campaign, but I couldn't say for sure.

Thank you very much for the help.

I also just wanted to point out that at 570 it's a bit frustrating with drops, because you feel like you don't have a lot to do to keep moving forward, but by about 590 it really picks up and you should be moving up to 650 faster. At that time I wasn't working and could have all the weekly stuff done in a day, then have to wait for daily missions to keep moving up, but once you get to where you can do the forges (610) and you've unlocked The Dreaming City it starts getting hard to get all the weekly and daily stuff done each week.

The dreaming city? Is that something I unlock through campaign play?

Yeah, after you complete the full Forsaken campaign you'll meet Petra. She'll show up near The Spider, and that'll kick off the quest line to unlock it.

I’ve got a shooter itch lately and considering the Forsaken package on the PSN sale. Got the base game on PC a while back and ditched it after completing the campaign. I just prefer the gamepad and my rig isn’t so strong that I benefit from the visual top end available on the platform.

What I am wondering tho is if I’m really only interested in Crucible and that hybrid PVE/PVP mode then is there a relatively straight forward roadmap for gearing up a new toon? And how active is the crucible community on PS4?

I use a gamepad on pc, for what it’s worth.

The PVP communities usually have a more consistent population compared to the PVE people who fluctuate based on new offerings. All you need to do is play the game, even if you're only PVP focused you will have different challenges and daily/weekly things to give you extra gear. I'm not sure how slow your growth may be, in terms of levels those should come pretty fast and at the end of every match you have a chance of getting 1 or 2 items and those can be guns or armor.

All of this holds true for the Gambit mode as well.

Edit: One thing to add, those daily/weekly things may not happen until you get closer to max level, but the bounties from Shaxx(pvp vendor) and The Drifter(Gambit vendor) recycle every day.

I did 50/50 when I went through the base campaign. If you go gamepad in PvP on PC, do you find that hamstrings you too much or not really a factor?

Overall I prefer being on the couch in front of the TV. And I may try to reconnect with my old D1 clan mates!

@b12n11w00t: Thanks for the info! I've heard it may be a bit of a grind to get the best HCs for Crucible, like TLW and... Luna? So long as I can get some reasonably competitive gear (blue or purple grade substitutes) then I should be satisfied. In the early going anyway it's going to be my rusty skill holding me back more than anything else.

Not really. My personal ability is much more of a factor than gamepad vs mouse and keyboard. Maybe if you were playing competitive or something, but I don’t feel like I’m being pwned constantly. Usually it’s my decisions that lead to my deaths. Being a Bungie game it feels great on controller and the aim assist works really well. Turning off rumble and getting one of those kontrol freek stick extenders for the right stick helped a lot as well.

100% the same.

Your mileage may vary if you're a better player/more skilled with a mouse and keyboard than I am, of course, which one easily could be.

Bungie is just killing it with the narrative and where it's going.

Started playing Forsaken this weekend on the PS4...

Maaaaaan, I missed this series. I originally just wanted to bring back some D1 feels and get in some Crucible workout time but I've found myself digging the patrols, the public events and the Vanguard strike playlist. I mean, part of it is I have to jump through those hoops to get stronger for the campaign missions and eventually unlock some decent weapons.

The bow though... the bow is sublime. And hand cannons still feel great. I'm back baby!

I haven't played in quite some time and don't really know if and when I'll be back. As such, I feel like I should at least offer to hand over the reigns of the PS4 clan. All but a few of the members are mostly inactive, but with the right leadership, maybe those numbers can rise again.

Anyway, if anyone is interested, send me a PM. Otherwise, I'm happy to continue to use the mobile app to manage membership invites and will monitor the Discord from time to time. I'll probably still pop in the thread here on occasion as well. On the Discord, we have several other mods who are fairly active, but if anyone needs a quick response they are always welcome to message me directly through the app or PM me here.

Regards and best wishes to you all.

Destiny has one of the most complex, interesting, and deep stories in video games. Unfortunately, you have to dig deep for it.

Also, how about that new Gambit Prime?

Trinity Ghoul is purchasable from Xur this weekend. Time for me to jump back in.

Get yourself the Oathkeeper too.

Yeah, that might bring me back in this weekend. I got a little burned out on games in general so I actually haven't been playing anything, and started focusing on learning my new job while trying to finally knock out my Security+ test. But damn... I need to see how many shards I have sitting around, it might be time to sort through the vault and break sh*t down.

After playing a bit of Anthem, I had the hankering for a team based shooter that's had enough time to bake, so I picked up Destiny 2 this week. (I'll revisit Anthem in a few months).

Currently working through the story missions and doing a little bit of side stuff as I go. Joined the clan, so if you see me online, give me a shout. Playing on PC.

I was excited to see you online this morning! Don’t hesitate to jump on the discord if you’re looking for company or have questions.
