Recommend Me A Game Catch All

Hidden Folks on Steam is a nice, animated Where's Waldo.

Looking for something new along the lines of Children of the Nile or The Settlers II - 10th Anniversary.

I tried Settlers online and couldn't get into it.

If I were to finally get my feet wet with Assassin's Creed, where should I get started? Go all the way back or start somewhere else?

Also is there an Armored Core game that is both Souls like and a good entry point for a new comer?

Story wise 1 does explain the concept best.
Game wise I'd start with 2 though. Much improved over 1. Do note I only played first 4ish

The Sexy Brutale!

real-time groundhog day time bending murder thwart-em-up adventure game with a cool visual style and superb jazzy/swing soundtrack.

It depends what you are looking for Hobear, but I agree with escher77's assessment. The first one is great for story, but the gameplay is simplistic, and some found it repetitive. I'd consider it if you are okay with skipping optional missions, or if you are going to alternate playing it with another game.

The whole Ezio trilogy that starts with Assassin's Creed 2 is where it started to really shine.

If you are unconcerned about backstory, most people really like the ship combat and general pirate-ness of AC4. By this entry, they throw you in the deep end a little as far as being light on tutorials, so you have to stick with it for a bit to get the controls and feel of the game down. But this entry is a pretty good standalone choice otherwise. It also starts a new arc for the framing story, relying much less on you knowing what's happened so far. This is your choice if you don't think you're likely to commit to the series.

There are a lot of "side" installments that have a lot going for them, but I think starting with a numbered installment is best. I wouldn't do AC3, though, because it finishes a story arc started in 1&2 that won't be as resonant... and frankly, a lot of people were lukewarm on that entry, and didn't find it as fun as the others.

Edit Actually, I decided to play Space Marine and finish Uncharted 2. Problem solved!

First question. I'm hankering to play an action game - it could be 1st or 3rd person. I tend to not like things that are too fast paced, but the newest Doom was fine. I also don't like it when I have to remember too many combinations of key presses. My thoughts so far:

New

1) Prey: Is this worth getting now or is this a wait for the price drop kinda game?

2) The Surge: I do like Lords of the Fallen.

3) Dark Souls 3 Season Pass: I did love DS3 (and the rest of them), but I've been hesitant to want to replay most of the game from scratch to get to the new content. I feel like I'm too rusty to continue a save game.

4) Shadow Warrior 2: I thought the first one was decent, but not great. It got too repetitive so I bailed about 2/3 of the way through.

Already Own

1) Fallout 4: I have the Season Pass. Thought the main campaign was pretty good but not great. I was thinking playing in survival mode might be better, plus I now have the extra content that I didn't have before.

2) Lords of the Fallen: I beat the game with a Warrior. It's been a while so maybe it will feel fresh enough to play again but as a different class.

3) Uncharted 2 (and then maybe 3): I know, this isn't a PC game. I'm probably halfway through Uncharted 2.

4) Warhammer® 40K: Space Marine: I have no idea what this is like or how good it is.

I'm OK spending a little money if what I'm getting will give me more enjoyment than something I have, but if the games I already own are better than the potential ones to buy then no point in spending any money now. Shadow Warrior 2 going on sale is what prompted this decision. So I'm curious what seems like the best choice to you guys. Or is there a highly anticipated action game coming out soon that would be better to wait for?

3) Hard to tell you one way or other. I always start from scratch with DLC's but I also generally play most Darksouls games 3-4 times.

4) I did not play the first game. The second game was fun/good in co-op. However, there is not much end game and it did get a bit repetitive. So I think you will have a similar experience to the first.

Have not played 1/2 yet so can not comment.

Sounds like Prey is a blast but if you're looking for just action fun time and have not played Wolfenstein the new order definitely worth picking up.

I've played Wolfenstein and it was very good.

Seeking a game to scratch an itch, playable on PC, something in the vein of Mount & Blade, Battle Brothers, Divinity, State of Decay or something with an interesting management layer and or something with an equip-able/skill-able/level-able party members. Big, open or explorable world. So Strategy/RPG kinda stuff.

I know the above is super specific but yeah.

Have you played this?

What about...

Expeditions: Conquistador

or the next game in the series that was just released..

Expeditions: Vikings

Good leads, ill check them out, bit weary of anything that isnt fully released yet though.
Thanks!

For some reason I'm in the mood for something Elder Scrolls like on the PC, but not Elder Scrolls because I've played them to death. I want something that captures that same feeling of exploration and discovery. Medieval-like settings isn't required, but something fictional is preferred to modern day reality. Things I have in my library that might work:

Kingdom Come: Deliverance (I've avoided this one because the main dev seems like an asshole)
Assassin's Creed: Odyssey (These tend to be more action-oriented than I'm looking for, and I always burn out on them before even reaching half-way)

Things I was just checking out on Epic, where I have a $10 coupon:

Kingdoms of Amalur
Outward
Horizon: Zero Dawn

Anyone care to sell me on anything listed there (or something else entirely)?

Horizon Zero Dawn can have the Elder Scrolls feel: there's an emphasis on figuring out your playstyle, a well thought out world and lore, ancient secrets coming out to wreak havoc on the world, ridiculously pretty scenery to gawk at. It can have that pleasingly lonely tone that I enjoy about Bethesda's games.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey, while I enjoyed it immensely, doesn't really compare. It's constantly throwing #content at you, desperate for you to engage with its various systems. It's a busy, bloated experience. Very fun for what it is, but no Elder Scrolls.

Can't really comment on the others. Outward looks pretty, but the survival aspects listed don't really interest me. I always read Amalur was pretty action-oriented.

Of those on your list, I reckon Kingdoms of Amalur is the most Elder Scrolls -y.
Outward is a bit more survival and rogue-lite. I haven’t played Kingdom Come, for the same reason as you.

Other suggestions :

The Bethesda / Obsidian Fallout games, obvs
Witcher 3
Dragon Age Inquisition (just get out of the Hinterlands ASAP)
The Outer Worlds
Dragons Dogma

Also, beanman, I love that phrase “pleasingly lonely”.

If you already own Skyrim on PC, Enderal is a free total conversion mod with a wholly unique story & setting.

Killer writing and lore on offer.

The Elder Scrolls Online?

I went looking for a game recommendation thread, and was surprised to see we didn't have a very active one! So, I'm resurrecting this.

I have an itch for something short; I play enough epic-length games, or games that have the possibility of going on forever. I'd love an action-RPG (which is maybe at odds with a short game) or some tight platformer. Ideally, it'd be on PS4, as I think my wife will be monopolizing our Switch for Hades. I generally prefer games with hand-crafted levels and challenges to something that's procedurally-generated. Mentally, I don't want anything too taxing, or requiring too many decisions; I would love a game with a great sense of rhythm or one that would let me get into a flow state. That would really help me unwind after some stressful work days.

Any recommendations? Recently, I went back to Celeste and replayed it; I've been loving that, but I've kind of stalled out on the B-side for Chapter 6.

Coincidentally, I just started Haven last night, and it might be what you're looking for. Low challenge, low decisions, pretty chill. Traversal of the world is done by gliding around (your characters have anti-gravity boots) and it's going to be either exactly what you want or it won't click at all. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a demo, which is a shame.

I also thought of Celeste, which may or may not give you an idea whether I'm jiving with you.

Gravity Rush maybe? There are some story bits, but most of the time you can just fly around in the open world, collect power ups, complete mindless side missions...

I'd recommend Warhammer Inquisitor. Short levels. Violent gameplay.

Gravity Rush Remastered is on deep sale on PS4 right now too. Gravity Rush 2 has a demo if you just want to try.

Anyone have any recommendations for a PC or Switch roguelike with no forced permadeath? Like, full turn-based dungeon crawling, but I can just reload my save if I die. Or maybe just something not-so-punishing on death. I guess basically what I want is a relatively more modern Castle of the Winds.

Have you played Might & Magic X: Legacy yet? That was decent fun a few years ago, and should go on sale pretty regularly - either on Steam or GOG.

Edit: Though, I guess that's more of a linear(ish) story dungeon crawler, than the roguelike you're asking about.

Edit 2: How about ADOM? I think you can play with permadeath disabled, and that's a crazy deep game. Also ToME.

I've been playing and loving Conquest of Elysium 5. It's a very asymmetric roguelike with something like 20 (very) different factions, many of which have wholly unique gameplay actions. No dungeons (that I've found so far anyway), but there are something like 9 different planes of existence that you can move between depending on what faction you are and whether or not you find a portal to a different plane.

There's an excellent Three Moves Ahead episode on the game, which is how I found out about it initially.

Haven’t played it but I’ve heard really good things about that rogue like that’s based on, but legally distinct from, Doom: Jupiter Hell or something like that? I believe it has permadeath but also progression from run to run.
