[News] Post a D&D Picture

Previous incarnations of Cleveland/P&C/D&D have had an image thread, to handle political cartoons and other image-based stuff that doesn't belong in the general post-a-picture threads.

If any of them spawn an extended discussion, please spawn it off into its own thread. Replies to non-picture replies should take the form of a link pointing to a post on a different discussion thread.

And I shouldn't have to say it, but the images still need to abide by the rules.

No worries. It's a rough time, I know.

Just don't succumb to despair so much that you skip voting, because that is the most important thing. People think their votes don't matter, but some places have razor thin margins, and every election, both parties purge the voter rolls of dead and relocated people, and there are frequent mistakes. Every vote counts.

If nothing else, vote in your local elections, because those can directly affect your life. They can also indirectly affect your life in the case of things like school boards because today's children will be in charge someday.

I know there's a like button, and I clicked it, but just have to agree verbally. Yeah, I'm fully despairing of our future, but I'm still voting. Every election, local on up. Because I'd sure love to be proven wrong and regain my hope for the future!

Frequently, those are not actually mistakes, and are a voter suppression tactic.

Hear hear. Public education is a cornerstone of democracy and it's under assault by culture warriors and chaos agents. Another challenge: 1/3 of the local population will vote 'No' on any tax question, no matter what, even if it's a levy renewal and their taxes won't increase. Since schools in the U.S. today often depend on property tax referendums just to function (since state taxes don't provide sufficient funding), it's critical that supporters of public education turn out and vote.

Yeah. Whenever I hear a candidate say anything in defense of “school choice” I know I have to vote for just about anyone else.

Our district is a bit of an odd one, where the board and superintendent have done such a sh*t job that people have started voting down the bonds and levies, which has never happened before. (The board allowed ESSR funds to be used to pay teachers, for example, without thinking about what would happen when that money's gone.) There are a few people who always vote no, but leadership has failed so hard that even the teachers union has stopped openly supporting a yes vote. And our voters are mostly against school choice, so it's not a republican vs democrat issue.

I hear you. The use of one-time pandemic relief (ESSR) funds for ongoing expenses is an issue in several districts I follow. Many have placed themselves in financial jeopardy despite a record investment in education by the state last year.

Once you lose the trust of your community, either through scandal or financial mismanagement (we had both in my district not long ago) it takes years to build back. And, unlike U.S. congress critters who can hide from their voters, local politicians have to face their constituents every day.

Still here. Still reading. I will vote in local elections. I'm not sure I will vote in the presidental election. I live in Portland OR so it's pretty much guaranteed who the EC will go to. Even if I didn't and I lived in a swing state, I'm not sure I would vote. More on that, and my reasoning why later.

At least this one has potential merit!

Meaning, I have no particular issue with the mob getting riled up about demographically entitled idiots.

EDIT: Ouch. That’ll teach me for lack of research. I read the Tom the Dancing Bug cartoon and didn’t think anything of it because I haven’t come across DEI as a common acronym. Oy. I hope I didn’t offend anybody.

The dangers of not quoting which image you're responding to.

This is the brains behind the Libs of Tiktok account that’s been fomenting rightwing violence all across the country for the last several years.

If you look closely you can tell that is AI because one of the air conditioning units is placed above the window which would never happen on a brick facade as it unevenly distributes the load around the lintel.

What possibly could have happened in 1980 that changed things? I guess it’s a mystery we’ll never know the answer to.

It was clearly when the US beat Russia in Hockey at the Winter Olympics and proved once and for all that Capitalism is the best in all things.

I mean, that, or it was John Lennon getting killed. Either way.

Your system thinks I'm trying to attack it when I post a jif of Hector Salamanca ringing his bell to explode the bomb under his chair. Hector sees the needle and knows his time is short. His face morphs in moments across the spectrum from grief to murderous rage, as he rings the bell over and over.

Thats what I think a lot of voters feel like. Call them stupid if you like but thats what a lot of people feel like.

It was mentioned most of Trump's gains are with people of color? Adam Carlson on X thinks so, based on polling data.

Who do you think worked the hardest for Biden to get elected? What did Biden say to them the day after he was elected? They refused to fire a parlimentarian to pass a bill that would make it easier for them to vote.
They are also likely to occupy the service jobs, "essential workers" who got f-cked the hardest in the post covid economy.

Maybe they dont GAF that TFG will make it harder for them. Things will be hard for POC regardless. Theres a chance though, some may intuit this and be able to put it into words... That TFG may just bring the system down, and give them a shot at what the democrats have been promising them over and over again.

Real change. And failing that, misery shared more widely.

Currency crisis? Stock market crash, failed budget, war, anythings on the table with TFG. Again, this isin't a pretty picture.

Biden also basically refused to do anything to unpack the Supreme Court and has barely made a dent in the lower federal courts. That's the only way to fix voting rights for PoC. Otherwise we'll just see more enlightened jurisprudence like, "How can voter ID laws be racist if they're the same for everyone?" And "Clearly we don't need pre-clearance anymore, those states are only sl8ghrl6 racist now."

I shouldn't post after two Belgian beers.

Like you would *assume* that Biden would let some scraps fall off the table to the very civil rights leaders who won him Georgia. "Sit down and shut up and your time is not yet here" is what he told them.

Like the democrats couldn't be arsed to fire a f-ckin parliamentarian. To pass a voting rights bill that would have made it easier to go to a polling place to vote against their economic interests so that settled knowledge workers and the upper crust could benefit from the Biden economy. Dude couldn't even do that.

Now, I'm not going to speak for an entire class anymore. Doing so based on my own circumstances repeatedly is prolly a bridge too far... It's doesn't take much of a mental leap to go from:

"vote against my own economic interests so that the economy can keep going forward and maybe my kids will benefit if those people we buoyed will vote us into a better place.

to

Vote against my economic best interest so that the whole system will burn down and maybe my kids will benefit from it when things are rebuilt.

You know "blue no matter who" sounds an awful lot like "trickle down economics" In electoral politics, as well as well as economics. Rising tides do NOT lift all boats.

Who is the person you’re talking about firing?

Something to consider: if you really think TFG and his cronies wouldn’t be that much worse than another Democratic Party betrayal, you may want to reconsider. Picture what’s been going on in Haiti recently, except scaled up to the whole USA, with much deadlier weapons in the hands of white supremacist militias. That’s not something the country could come back from even in a generation.

I’m really concerned that there are a lot of angry betrayed people who underestimate what the 2025 plan might do to them and to the country.

Unless the Democratic Party wakes the f*ck up and stops acting like it’s 1995 we are going to get there in the near future regardless, the only thing this election will decide is how soon we get there.
