[News] Post a D&D Picture

Previous incarnations of Cleveland/P&C/D&D have had an image thread, to handle political cartoons and other image-based stuff that doesn't belong in the general post-a-picture threads.

If any of them spawn an extended discussion, please spawn it off into its own thread. Replies to non-picture replies should take the form of a link pointing to a post on a different discussion thread.

And I shouldn't have to say it, but the images still need to abide by the rules.

I have stopped tut-tutting about political violence, too. Violence, or the threat of it, is the only thing that shuts Nazis up and drives them back into their parents' basements. So violence is fine as long as it's only against Nazis and other intolerable bigots.

Tolerance is a social contract. Break that social contract at your own peril.

Portland had several years straight of nazis and white supremacists rolling into town nearly every month during the Trump administration to protest the city. Antifascists peacefully counterprotested until the nazis gradually escalated to violence and direct assaults, at which point we met their violence with violence.

It took several large scale fights but it’s been a while since they’ve tried that shit again here.
In fact, during the “Freedom Convoy” last year the convoy almost drove hundreds of miles out of the way to avoid Portland because they were scared to even drive through on the highway. Here’s some screenshots I took of their Telegram at the time:

Precisely. Portland gets the gold star for the proper and justified use of political violence.

After two failed IVF and a failed frozen, 1) f*ck you and 2) are you going to pay for fertility treatments for the red blooded American women who want to have kids and can’t conceive naturally?

Or the education for them after they're born...or their healthcare...or their food...or their, etc.

I keep pushing 'like' but the numbers aren't going up as needed. Is it broken? - Working in Education in Iowa

I'm sure his response will be something about "God's will."

The "able-bodied" part is pretty ugly too.

Eugenics is back, baby!

This is what is called arguing in bad faith. She has no intention - as shown by her votes - to support Americans she just uses that lie as a way to complain about aid to Ukraine

Usually there is an emphasis on "...but they have clearly not corrupted the rest of the barrel".

(Image of MTG complaining about sending $1 billion per month to Ukraine and not spending it on mental health services in America)

For fiscal year 2023, we allocated 1.8 trillion dollars to the Department of Defense.

Maybe if we're really so worried about where America's "hard-earned tax dollars" are going we can start by looking at cuts there, since it costs over 100 times the aid we're sending to Ukraine.

If the government would stop giving money to the wealthiest Americans and actually collect taxes they owe, spending like this wouldn't be a problem.

According to a March 2023 report by the non-partisan think tank Center for American Progress...

"If not for the Bush tax cut and their extensions — as well as the Trump tax cuts — revenues would be on track to keep pace with spending indefinitely, and the debt ratio (debt as a percentage of the economy) would be declining," reads the study.

The tax cuts are responsible for 57% of the increase in the debt ratio since Bush's first government in 2001. That number would reach 90% if we removed the "one-time costs" from bills responding to COVID-19 and the Great Recession.

There has never been a better time to be a wealthy American.

Look, a few bad apples in the bunch... they're not really a problem. Unless they shoot some of the pears, but then, as long as it didn't happen where anyone can prove it was some apples that did it, who's to say it wasn't actually pear-on-pear violence?

And look, if it was a couple bad apples, don't worry, we'll set them aside until we're sure they're actually bad, and if they are, we'll just put them in a different bunch. See? We keep our own bunch clean!

Isn't that.... Vinegar draining out the bottom of the barrel?

Donald Trump goes on another rant, this time about Bill Barr. Since Barr is a witness in the J6 case in DC, Trump has just violated the gag order he was given in DC.

And nothing of consequence will be done...

He might get another fine...

Fines just means it is legal for rich people.

Fine #2 was double Fine #1 from Judge Engoron, and he's been clear that subsequent punishments will escalate.

It won't matter. It isn't a deterrent to him. Hell he can get more funding from his fanatics each time he gets a fine.

Until the judge orders jail time. I'm curious as to how the logistics of that will work with Secret Service protection.

From the initial fine, though:

While this post was removed from Truth Social, it remained live on Trump’s campaign website. Trump’s lawyers insisted this breach of the gag order was inadvertent. Engoron fined him $5,000 on Friday.

In a written ruling that outlined the nominal fine, however, the judge stressed that Trump was “way beyond the ‘warning’ stage”, and warned that “future violations, whether intentional or unintentional,” would lead to “far more severe sanctions”, including “possibly imprisoning” Trump.

I kind of agree with the judges here. If they just throw him in jail for contempt the first time he does something, it will be much easier for people to dismiss it as just the judges not being impartial. They're making a paper trail and showing that this is a pattern of behavior and that they have just cause to take stronger and stronger actions. The judges know as well as we do that Trump is physically incapable of shutting up, and he's going to screw up again. They want to make sure that when they do actually lock him up, it sticks and doesn't get the case thrown out on the inevitable immediate appeal.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

Horse pucky!

I mean, I kind of bought the whole "follow due process", "create a clear trail of evidence" etc. but today MORE republicans believe that 2020 election was stolen that in 2021. Obviously being rational and clear doesn't work because their delusions are growing.

They are proving right in front of us that honesty, integrity, rule of law doesn't work. We have to stop playing a totally different game than they are. The first step of that might be to lock him up, and take away his social media accounts.

The % of Republicans has changed. That could also mean that people who do believe the elections are valid have stopped considering themselves Republican.

Which way has it changed, Vargen? Are there more or fewer now?

I was responding to Farley's post above. He linked a CNN article that said the % of republicans who believe the election was stolen has risen to 70%, and asserted that more people believe the lies than before. I was pointing out a more optimistic interpretation of the data: we don't have more deniers; the deniers have driven the sane people out of the Republican party.
