[News] Post a D&D Picture

Previous incarnations of Cleveland/P&C/D&D have had an image thread, to handle political cartoons and other image-based stuff that doesn't belong in the general post-a-picture threads.

If any of them spawn an extended discussion, please spawn it off into its own thread. Replies to non-picture replies should take the form of a link pointing to a post on a different discussion thread.

And I shouldn't have to say it, but the images still need to abide by the rules.

As a former foster parent and a father who adopted a foster kid, this is true.

While I agree with this on one level, didn't the banks from the Bush bailout pay back the bailout loans, with interest, in a very short amount of time? Now if there isn't a mechanic to return the borrowed money (for profiting institutions) then I have a problem with that.

Not in total…taxpayers still had to bear the burden of some of that..AFAICR it was $31B left over.

What's going to turn us into zombies first, COVID or cordyceps

There's a guy I follow on IG who has terrible long COVID. He now has to live outside of the city because the noise causes his COVID-induced tinnitus to flair up AND he's become super sensitive to anything that vibrates. To the point that, when he was still living in San Fran there was exactly ONE square metre in his apartment where he could sit where he couldn't feel the vibrations from the street and actually be at peace.

The kicker is that for a good year his doctor kept telling him that it was all in his head and refused to treat him. The next doc said "Wow, really? This is 100% a sign of long COVID and if your doctor had put you on steroids right away you would be back to normal right now"

Apparently, the tinnitus thing is serious enough that folks have taken drastic measures.

Warning: suicide.

Having experienced a case of tinnitus that lasted for 5 days straight I can absolutely understand how debilitating it is. It's no joke.

I dealt with vibration sensitivity with my original infection. It’s absolutely real and awful. Trains were the worst. I’m pretty close to some tracks and if that were part of my long covid, I’d have to move, too.

At least my doctor believes me with my long Covid stuff—the main issue is he just doesn’t know what to do about it other than throw meds at the symptoms. It’s the worst to know there’s no real known course or plan or direction to “get better.”

I liked the article. Some good stuff in there that tracks for my experience. And nice to hear about progress being made.

Covid is plain awful.

I'm laughing more at the four year transition from "God chose Trump to save America" to "Trump's a morally-bankrupt asshole."

Gives me a sliver of hope that Trump's hold on White Evangelicals has weakened, if only a little bit.

Trump's hold is weakening, but I am not sure that is a reason for great hope. DeSantis is a more distilled version of Trump without as much ancillary inefficiency. A sort of lower drag version of pure bigotry.

True, but he's also far less charismatic. Time will tell if he can compete nationally with the same success as he's had in Florida.

Yup (with the obvious caveats about polls this far out).

We also don't know how Trump and DeSantis (hopefully) going at each other like rabid howler monkeys on crack for the next 15 months is going to change things among conservative voters.

Some will triple-down on Trump. Others will get turned off by the infighting. And still others will screw up the courage to openly admit that Trump's bad for the party. And that's what I'm here for because Republican electoral success increasingly hinges on them maximizing turnout among aggrieved White voters and anything that dampens that turnout--even by a little bit--will substantially screw with their final results.

I still think the best outcome is for Trump to roflstomp DeSantis in all the primaries and for the party to deny him the nomination on some procedural f*ckery only to watch the entire convention devolve into a horrific display of sectarian violence.

Yet republicans I know will still vote R.

The best outcome I can see is OG's dampening of turnout.

DeSantis scares me. He's cleverer than Trump and even more fascist. The things he's getting away with in Florida are appalling.

Yep and he wants to take Florida national. If they won the presidency, suddenly states' rights wouldn't mean sh*t.

Since there's no credit on this (which to be fair there isn't in the original image either), I'll point out this is by Costa A, an Australian cartoonist.

(ATSI: Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islanders; Newstart was the name of our welfare program, the equivalent program is Jobseeker now.)
