[News] Post a D&D Picture

Previous incarnations of Cleveland/P&C/D&D have had an image thread, to handle political cartoons and other image-based stuff that doesn't belong in the general post-a-picture threads.

If any of them spawn an extended discussion, please spawn it off into its own thread. Replies to non-picture replies should take the form of a link pointing to a post on a different discussion thread.

And I shouldn't have to say it, but the images still need to abide by the rules.

Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism...

Lol. Somebody needs to brush up on the history of Adidas and it's founder.

That statement probably should have had the word "anymore" in it.

This is a bit dark....

Spoiler:

Dark, but infuriatingly accurate.

So the Pope wants all British people dead?

I would assume the Catholic Church hasn't been too fond of England since the whole starting their own church thing.

Ohioans, too.

Why do you want to kill my dad?

Dude literally delights in driving the speed limit in the far left lane while adamantly proclaiming no one should be breaking the law.

This from a guy who if he hadn't grown up white in the 40s and 50s would have rolled from juvie to real jail today just based on the sh*t he's admitted to. Heck, I was in my 30s when I realized the 'bamboo' he grew in our backyard when I was a kid was actually weed he sold to his co-workers.

He is breaking the law by not using the left lane as only a passing lane.

He got his license three years before they started to build I-75...

It's okay to drive the speed limit

That rather depends whether your goal is to break the fewest laws or to drive the safest way possible.

Are the cops actively looking for speeding tickets in this area was my first thought.

Some places I drive they respect flow of traffic other places it's all about those dollar signs.

Absolutely! I'm one of those slowpokes who drives the speed limit.

But in some states it's against the law to drive in the leftmost lane unless you are actively passing a vehicle in a lane to your right. Breaking one law to "get back at" people for breaking an adjacent law is rather stupid.

Statistically speaking slower speeds are safer. That doesn’t mean drive 20mph in the passing lane, but when I see people flip out about someone doing the speed limit my eyes roll out of my sockets. None of us should be driving as fast as we are in America. It literally gets more dangerous every increment of speed.

This is the correct answer. Someone doing 100 in the passing lane and staying there isn’t a “safer” driver. And they’re also breaking the law.

Doing the speed limit in the passing lane is NOT the safer option if it's causing the drivers around you to have to pass you on the inside.

Safe driving is a group activity.

No doubt you'll want to say "a-ha! But they shouldn't be doing that" and I'll reply that that ain't gonna help you when one of those idiots sideswipes YOU because the doofus in front of THEM didn't get out of their way.

You need to be more specific. If the speed limit is 55 and you pass someone in the passing lane going 55 while the right lane driver is doing 50, then that’s completely safe and legal. Getting in the passing lane doesn’t suddenly mean you need to go 20mph over the speed limit. Nor is it much safer.

The problem is anyone at any speed camping out in the passing lane. Period.

I hope, hope this is another faked image because if it is real they are a horrible community.

Here’s the full story if you do, indeed, wonder about whether posted images that haven’t remotely been vetted are true.

I'm going completely on memory here, but as I recall studies actually show that after a point slower is not safer, it in fact gets significantly more dangerous. This makes sense because while the severity of crashes can be significantly affected by absolute speed, closing speed has a greater impact on the likelihood of a crash.

I used to know of a place (since changed) where I feel safe saying that it was dangerous to drive less than triple the speed limit, and if I somehow ended up on a jury for someone fighting a reckless driving charge for going the speed limit in otherwise free flowing traffic, I wouldn't hesitate to vote to convict.

< Not legal advice>Going slower than the prevailing speed of traffic in the left lane is dangerous and illegal. Exceeding the posted speed limit in the left lane on the other hand can be completely legal. Where I learned to drive (and as I understand it in most if not all of the US) it is legal to exceed the posted speed limit in order to safely complete a pass. That may be a rare situation on a multi lane road as opposed to a two lane/one lane in each direction road with a passing zone, but it at least *can* be legal to "speed" in the left lane, but going slow there when there are lanes available to the right is always* illegal< / not legal advice>

*Some restrictions apply, not available in all areas, your milage may vary, while supplies last, additional secret caveats could exist.

Definitely a fraction of a second. I came back after the fact and decided that 10 seconds of googling was effort I could afford to spend, since that’s all it takes.

So it is true and actually more f*cked up than I would have thought.

The ordinance was introduced after an especially violent Halloween in 1968 where a city in the Hampton Roads region witnessed several incidents, including people throwing firecrackers into trick or treaters' Halloween bags.

So people assault trick or treaters and the solution they come up with is to ban older trick or treaters?

And the whole article about how they reduced the penalties, and no one will go to jail, etc. feels like the PR department for the city trying to cover over their stupid law rather than just get rid of the law!

Truly “your moment of zen”.

So yet another law that is purposefully broad enough that the police can stop anyone they want but don't worry they won't bother the 'right' kind of people, < wink > , and doesn't need to be on the books because the behavior they want to punish people for is already covered under other existing laws.

And they come right out and admit in 49 years no one has ever been punished under the law, and yet they spend literally thousands of taxpayer dollars updating and defending it instead of just getting rid of it! A perfect example of bloated police state government.

How can it be reckless not to break the speed limit?
