[News] Post a D&D Picture

Previous incarnations of Cleveland/P&C/D&D have had an image thread, to handle political cartoons and other image-based stuff that doesn't belong in the general post-a-picture threads.

If any of them spawn an extended discussion, please spawn it off into its own thread. Replies to non-picture replies should take the form of a link pointing to a post on a different discussion thread.

And I shouldn't have to say it, but the images still need to abide by the rules.

And one of those GOP morons complaining about the sabbath got sworn in on a Sunday, so it's obviously not that important to them.

Okay I did laugh at that.

Not wrong.

Not even a little wrong, especially considering the specific callouts, but not really even requiring those.

Underdeveloped isn't the right word nor is it the word used. The word used was "poorly developed" which is both accurate and indicates incomplete, dated and low quality. Again, accurate.

When I read this the first time I was instantly struck by the thought - I feel the same way about taxes! But I think the argument people make about taxes is we are paying for something we get (defense, safe food, etc.) and I think that same argument holds true for union fees - we get a lot of services for those dues.

Wouldn't it potentially raise her income and better her environment. Also, is this person real? lol

I think the IMGUR post was about fake accounts but it is a sentiment I have heard a lot about unions - we have to pay even if we don't want to, etc.

Don't think about it too much because @AmazonFCDarla isn't a real person, just a sh*tty computer-generated astroturfing attempt by Amazon.

Note her funky glasses that look like two different frame styles were just blended together, the one yellow tooth that sticks out like a sore thumb from her other perfect teeth, and the earring that's really just a shiny blob.

And the account's already been suspended.

The thing about union dues is that it lets the union bank a bunch of money, which can then be used to support strikes. Those dues give your union real bargaining power, because if a strike is serious, they can use that banked cash to at least get you enough money to eat. Many of the really nasty historic strikes were prolonged, and the company ultimately won because the workers were literally starving.

Don't think of those dues as expenses, think of them as an investment that gives you power over wages and working conditions.

You mean when the staffer sends an e-mail to the cloakroom saying they filibuster? Cause that's all a filibuster is right now. An e-mail that says, "No."

Screw them all.

Is he trying to go for an Eraserhead kind of thing with his Twitter avatar?

Yeah, not to mention that what FakeAmazonRobot said is Talking Point #1 in Unionbusting 101.

And the anecdata counterpoint - I've paid roughly $10k in union dues over the last 17 years, during which time my salary has nearly doubled.

Support your unions.

There was more to that thread. A lot of people picked up on her claim that she was "barely scraping by" while working at Amazon and (rightfully) called that out as a shameful situation for someone working for a company owned by the richest person on the planet. She followed up by apologizing for making Amazon look bad and that it wasn't anyone's fault but her own that she has kids. She followed that up by apologizing again and saying that Amazon isn't anti-union in any way and that her boss is great.

An Amazon News account was tweeting that the oft cited reports of drivers and warehouse workers being pushed so hard they don't have time to go to the bathroom and have to pee in bottles were completely made up and was countered by AOC showing a copy of an internal staff memo from a distribution center telling workers they were finding too many bags filled with feces and bottles full of urine.

Re: Amazon-loving, anti-union Darla

Robby Appleton, a comedian from Chicago, came forward on Tuesday saying he had created the Darla account to parody real Amazon Twitter ambassadors. “On Friday, I created a satirical Twitter account making fun of Amazon’s anti-union propaganda,” Appleton said in a tweet earlier this week. “I can’t wrap my head around how far this dumb Twitter account got,” he said in another.

I'm sure the real astroturfing effort is more sophisticated.

That last thing (about crashes and semi-recoveries) isn't a problem of capitalism, it's the f**ked-up Fed and the massively screwed up money supply.

They've been digging this hole starting with Greenspan, and it is incredibly deep.

Quite the effect of Trump's big lie on Republicans' views of voting.

I think they have always felt that way. But like other issues, trump has just given them the cover/courage/stage to say it outloud.
