NCAA college football 2017-18: Official thread

FSU beats uf for the 5th straight time, keeping hope alive for both the current bowl record and winning seasons streaks. (35 and 40 years, respectively)

A forgettable season by any measure, but beating the Gators (again) and seeing Miami lose to Pitt make this a decent weekend.

Oh, and War Damned Eagle!

(Sorry manta)

Losing to Ohio State sucks.

That is all.

Louisville 44, Kentucky 17. No punts. Lamar 4 Heisman.

Good day.

I only have the audio stream, but from everything I can hear, Alabama does not deserve to win this....should they somehow find a way to come back.

EDIT: Congratulations to Auburn! They really showed up Alabama. I'm not sure if Auburn made Alabama look bad, or if Alabama did that to themselves.

It wasn’t that bad but I was imagining “Benny Hill” music playing every time Bama had the ball.

Spoiler:

It was ugly

Some from column A, some from column B. Auburn straight up beat them, but Bama did have some ridiculous bad snaps and such (one where the refs bailed them out).

Let's just keep focusing on these other games that are under discussion.

So Fed, what do you think? Is Sumlin out?

I have been hearing for weeks that he is 100% done.

I've also been hearing, funny you should ask, that our top target is Jimbo Fisher.

...awkward.

Ouch

Congrats to UCLA, Michigan, TCU, Clemson, Purdue, Cal, Troy, Louisville, and FSU for winning more SEC games this year than Tennessee did.

Yeah, I have heard the same. We hear it every year though, and if Jimbo were to leave, I would think that he would have gone to LSU, since he has ties there.

One thing for sure, it's going to be an interesting off-season.

Twitter seems confident Schiano will be Tenn's new coach.

ESPN is apparently reporting Dan Mullen is moving from State to Florida.

TexAgs is reporting Sumlin is getting the Arizona State job - they just fired their coach.

Lots of movement right now. It's college's own "silly season".

Greg Schiano? Why would any school hire that bully?

Well, they won't now, because their fanbase is screaming bloody murder on social media and demonstrating at their stadium. Clay Travis, who grew up a UT fan, gave out their AD's work numbers so people could voice their displeasure.

Hearing in more places that Jimbo to TAMU is a "done deal". If so, and he feels that it will be that much better for him (rumors are $7.5-8 million a year) then best of luck and thanks for the memories.

The offseason is so much fun...

I do not entirely understand Jimbo to TAMU, but then again, I don't think TAMU's idea of what it should be as a CFB program matches up with the reality of what it is.

The Schiano thing is a hilarious trainwreck though.

EDIT: Twitter scuttlebutt is that the Schiano deal's dead already.

Agreed on both points.

Fresno State took down #25 Boise State, advancing to the MWC title game, where they will face... Boise State.

No sh*t, man, that's why we're doing this.

If your dreams don't match your reality, you can either just accept your lot in life, believe in a caste system and the divine right of kings, or you can get about the business of making those dreams come true. It's true for you, it's true for me, and it's true for the Fightin' Texas Aggies.

Meanwhile, in Knoxville, the dumpster fire has caught fire. What an embarrassing mess.

Finally getting caught up on the forums...

The Alabama game was rough... It seemed like we were intentionally getting penalties, our o-line decided to take the day off, and the defense was still hurting from all the injuries.

It's frustrating when it looked like if any one of those 3 things weren't happening we could've won, but Auburn played well and deserved the win. Now comes the guessing game of will they, won't they with the committee. Maybe a 1 loss Alabama without the SEC title is better than a 2 loss Ohio state with the Big 10 title... Then Auburn/ Alabama rematch for the National title !!!! lol

Boy, it will be an interesting question. Alabama seems to have had hard luck on the injury front this season (if I remember, you're missing 32 starting LBs?).

Still, here's what I hope doesn't happen: the committee shouldn't give Alabama "the benefit of the doubt." They should assess them by the same metrics as everyone else. They crushed their weaker SEC foes. But, the weaker half of the SEC seemed particularly weak this year. The clobbered FSU who is...not great.

It's a tough job for the committee. I don't know how I'd vote in this case. Good luck.

Honestly, if either TCU or Ohio State wins their championship game, I see Bama making the playoff. I would not be surprised at all to see them at #5 come Tuesday night. I am not saying that I agree, considering Bama's complete body of work (them breaking my Noles has a bit to do with that), but the committee has shown that they really love Bama and OSU.

Yeah people keep saying we didn't beat anyone good. The Noles were great until we injured their QB. It just sucks that happened in the 1st game so that the Noles struggled all season and we look like we haven't beat anyone.

The argument, as I have heard it a few times today, is that Bama's best wins are over a 3-loss LSU and a 4-loss MSU, which is tough to argue with. It's not Bama's fault that the SEC wasn't as good as it usually is, but that has to be part of the calculation.

There is not any real evidence to that effect. It's not as if the FSU defense has dominated this year, or anyone has stepped up on offense.

It is not their fault that the SEC is down. But they've also not done themselves any favors by scheduling only one non-conference game that could be seen as more than a 'gimme'. Fresno State has been good for a MWC team. Colorado State has had moments. Neither is a Power 5 team. Mercer is ridiculous to schedule.

Can confirm. All too sadly, I can confirm.

Bama doesn't have the body of work this year, plain and simple. I'd be shocked if they made it in.
