For one
Took the shortest route - phoned the foundry who made them. They are very intrested, will talk with them soon.
I think I might have a bas problem. A friend heard I was looking for a bass a while ago and offered me a deal on another one. Since it’s substantially different from the jazz and precision fenders I have, I was interested.
It’s a 2011 34H stingray in mint condition. Still has the plastic on the pick guard and the tag on the neck. He bought it for his wife but got to keep it in the divorce. New it’s $950 msrp and generally around $850 at retail.
He wants it out of the house for $400.
Wow, the worst case of GAS I've ever seen. But that is different to what you have, and the price is right.
Guess I need to go shopping.
Non-players don't understand that if you're an enthusiastic guitar player there's so much variation that you can have a whole bunch and not have all the ground covered.
Sort of spit-balling the 5 guitars idea for myself.
Strat
Gibson variant (SG or Explorer for me)
Tele
Something modernish in Drop D
Something with P90s (SG Special)
This doesn't even include an acoustic.
You can also have so many guitars that have different setups that you can have a dozen without two that do the same thing.
If you like Strats you want one in E flat and one in D
Open tunings
If you record you may want one with Nashville Tuning
A Baritone
And drop D flat! I think there are some metal bands that do that.
Drop B for prison sex...
This is my latest drool worthy object I am currently stopping myself from acquiring.
Despite the luxury looks, the price is reasonable (sub 1000).
I play a lot of metal so I'm typically in D standard, though I like a lot of songs that are in E, and then again it gets down to C# or C standard sometimes. Unfortunately I've only got one guitar so it gets retuned probably more than it should! Guess I need to go shopping along with Mixolyde...

Ooo looks like a version of the parts master I made myself as designed by someone that knows what they are doing:
Whoa. You built that!? That is awesome!
Bass players all need a precision for anything written before 1975, a jazz for slap and tap, and a stingray for active pickups to cut through with that thump when you want to solo over a drum set.
Beyond that, you need a 5 string for metal and funk and a fretless for classical or art rock.
That and a honking big amp.
And a small travel amp, and a performance amp, and an acoustic amp, and a small travel acoustic performance amp....
Whoa. You built that!? That is awesome!
It was all Warmoth parts so aside from a bit of drilling to get the pickguard in there wasn't much actual woodworking done. The impressive part was how much it cost. Too much.
(About $2,000 all told, but I went all out on the parts as it was towards the end of 2020 and I wanted to do something excessive for having made it through the year)
It's all Curtis Novak stuff and no preamp

This is basically how I roll - I've accumulated quite a few guitars, but they all serve different purposes!

Cool. So passive pickups all around. Interesting combination. Two single coil and a split coil.
I know next to nothing about guitars, but it would be all manner of overkill for a bass. ;)
Oh don't worry I have a Bass VI and a J Bass I intend to do similar crimes to on a long enough time scale
I'm surprised you had the issues you did with the SUB4 I have only heard good things about Sterling instruments. Really want one of those ST Vincent guitars they make someday.
And as for weight I borrowed a friends Les Paul for a bit after running away from home and god damn that thing was too heavy. Part of why I made sure the Jazzmaster I built was semi hollow.
The bass I got (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B091BJL546...) needs a set up for sure but I also plan to replace the neck anyways and I am not planing to do any recording or whatever and the buzzing doesn't really bug me.
I do need to get my guitar in for a proper set up but I miswired something and want to fix that first. Jazzmaster typically have a weird second circuit that let's you switch between a lead and rhythm sound on the fly, I swapped it out so the second set of controls works with the middle pickup instead so that can be mixed in separately from the other two. Right now though it lands on the same pot as the rest of the pickups due to a testing issue I never fixed so volume is also effected by the normal volume knob. The reason for all this is that the other two pickups are fairly dark and mid to low end focused, and the middle one is oops all highs, for when you need that, and this way it can be mixed in as needed for more fine tuning
