Conan Exiles - Crush Your Enemies, See them driven before you!

I am just learning the ropes in a single player game. I really have a very shallow understanding on how the server/pvp /co-op play side of things work.
Ranalin, you run the server? and set the rules? Seems like you guys are end game ish with your fortresses and black ice? armor. After you have conquered everything will you reset it and start from scratch again? What difficulty setting are you playing at?

The server is on the medium setting where we have the full death penalties but the purge advancement and difficulty is at normal speed. All the settings other than times for pvp have been left alone. Oh, I also took off the full nudity setting yesterday since some folks are bringing their kids in to play.

The server is modified to what they ended up calling pve-conflict. PvP is only turned on during the hours of 11am-5pm on the weekends. Building destruction is turned off.

I have 0 intentions of resetting the server. I've intentionally got the server so even when i get distracted by other games this is something i can come back to. Also if anyone feels the need to reset they can do it themselves at the menu. No need for the server to do it.

Not even come close to conquering everything. I'm not even close to discovering what's all out there to conquer. I'm also not even close to finalizing design plans on the stuff i'm building.

I've put a butt-load of hours since the new launch and did hit 60 over the weekend. There's a couple others that are in their 50s and others that just started yesterday and everything in between.

After going through it once now though i've seen how easy it can be to level up. Discovery, High value crafting, and journal completion can get you to 60 in super quick order.

As for co-op we're all trying to work together. While you don't have to, if you guild up on the server you'll be able to help out at each others encampments and share their stations. If you're just doing solo and not joining a server you can invite friends into your sessions. Not sure of the count or if their things persist or not.

You should see his fortress. I bet Ran could've built a real fortress in the time it must have taken to build that behemoth.

My friend and I were out collecting thralls yesterday and ran into a couple issues.

What is the best way to identify thralls before you are in kissing range?
How do you get the npc you want to knock out out of a group of enemies safely?
Where is a good place to find taskmasters? Alchemists?

We are still down in the desert area. We briefly explored the highlands but that is a long way from our base. We are set up at the Hand of the Maker if that helps on giving tips on thrall locations. We were at the Black Galleon getting thralls yesterday.

Taskmasters are in the city out west. From the hand, go north, then west around the corruption city to the box city there. Inside some ‘arena’ you’ll find the taskmasters. If you’re lucky, then the named one is there.

You can also find alchemists there, on the west side of the city sitting around a campfire with a cook.

The best way I do it is by walking away and trying to get them to separate some before cutting the ones I don’t want down, then working on the one I do want with the truncheon

All the named and level 3 thralls i have are from the pirate ship. I also have a set of stairs to get there more directly just around the corner left from my base.

There's a level 3 taskmaster that spawns there as well as named smelters and blacksmiths. The named ones spawn randomly.

As for safely getting to them. Judicial kiting and be careful where you attack. I tend to use daggers so i can get bleeds on the ones around the one i want so they're taking damage while trying to kite them around objects to peel them off.

I am setup near border of the Highlands and Desert - it rough going because everything wants to kill me and easy food is tough to find. However I enjoy the challenge.

Anyone playing on PS4? I was under the impression this was a free to play game, so I went to download it the other day, then found it was $50. Is it worth that? I only get sporadic time to play nowadays. Not sure what type of dedication or time sink is required.

Is it just me or is survival seem the best out of attributes?!

Fishing nets - life saver!

i prefer vitality for the hit points and the regen at 30. Before the regen, I’m not sure I was ever at full health.

I do have some in survival and a lot in endurance, since that dictates how much you can carry. When I hit endgame and have everything set up the way I want, I’ll likely go with vitality, survival and strength.

at end game there seems no advantage of putting points into survival.

I’d have to look at the perks. Can’t recall which one I wanted.

There's a couple i want, but nothing i want to give up to get them

So i made a run to the volcano and got the obsidian recipes (you don't have to kill the boss to get them) and while i was there crafted a spear, daggers and a skinning knife. Along the way with the new armor i didn't have to run from everything so was able to fight and there's a chunk of mini rocknose kings. They're the size of shellbacks, but when you skin them they give a bunch of demon's blood. There's 2 or 3 of them before you even make it into the volcano. I made my way back down your way and left them at your camp. Which btw is quite idyllic except for that damn insect boss you have as a neighbor!!

I dumped everything in Survival to get the ability to eat raw meat, which makes exploring so much easier. My plan is to go to the next node where harvesting is faster and then to pack mule in encumbrance for the ability to carry more. I read you can respec... but not sure how or when. I figure after I've done some significant gathering/building then I'll just spec out of encumbrance.

So, where is everyone made their base? Is everyone together? I'm thinking rather than spending too much time in the starter area (along the south river) I'm going venture up north and choose my permanent base near some iron deposits.

I’ve got three bosses not far from me. King koopa, the shellback is on the island in the oasis and that insect king is no dang joke. But mining the chitin for the ninja armor is easy there

Hopefully I have a good internet connection at work and can play a little. I was at a slow station yesterday but the internet connection was miserably bad.

If you drew a line from the oasis in the NW corner of the map down and over to the east to the eastern edge of the middle river you'll find pretty much all of us along it.

FYI, found this map with landmarks and locations marked (putting it in spoiler tags, just in case):

I think it's current/accurate?

Can you name a landmark on the map above, near where you guys are settled?

Are trebuchets worth the construction cost (for base defense) or are they just a gimmick?

looks right to me.

Right now my main place is right on the river south of "hand of the maker" and "hunter's view" (directly east of the icon for "the unnamed city").

I also have an outpost i'm setting up near sepermeru (western part of the map), south of the temple quarter thats just there to house a wheel of pain to grab thralls from the city. feel free to throw thralls on there as needed.

X marks the spot for my two locations:

The big thing to remember when putting down roots is resources availability.

To start serious building you need large supply of stone, iron, coal. It also helps to have a nearby water supply and a path to thralls.

Nevin73 wrote:

They're for base busting so on our server it's just good for xp.

It's a shame you can't put a thrall on one to help with Purge defense.

I'm really enjoying it so far , just playing single player. I started off at the middle difficulty level, it seemed about right as far as animals and other Npc exiles but I'm a little bit put out by how many resources I need to constantly gather to build things. So I tried it at the easier level, could build and craft a bit easier but still needs 100 plus wood to build a crafting rack? Bark requirements are pretty steep too. I love exploring and the vague hints of lore around the place but don't really enjoy spending a day chopping wood and mining stone, feels too much like Minecraft.
Just a few questions
1. Resources stored in boxes: are they counted as in your inventory when crafting?
2.Mods: I wish the nexus mod site was a thing, steam workshop is a breeze to install mods but a pain to find the mods you might be interested in. Is anyone using any mods?
3.Archery: as useless as it looks?
4.blocking: its same button as kicking on the m/kB, so I can't seem to do it. I am using daggers.
Thanks

1. nope
2. i agree
3. kinda, but getting an upgrade soon and can be built at end game to make them worthwhile.
4. blocking is only done with shields. can only use 1h weapons/items with shields

re:
bark- it does get better the higher up in levels and the better tools you get.
amount of resource/minecraft - you totally didn't research this game at all before did you? This is exactly the type of game this is. Just in the world of Conan. You have to build everything to move forward in the game.

I have been enjoying Archery in PvE. Worshiping Set and turning branches to poison snake arrows really helps. You need to invest in both Strength and Accuracy to get decent damage with bows.

I do feel like there needs to be a bit more explanation in game on the different weapon status effects and what what perks affect what weapon types better. I had to do a bunch of digging to figure that out myself.

What I feel needs the most love is the javelin and throwing axes. I love the straight forwardness of the javelin and shield combo but I always end up accidentally throwing my javelin and losing it. They either need a better use in melee or they need to be able to stack so if you throw one you can then instantly pull out another.

I think I did see a stacking thrown weapons mod in the steam workshop if you are on PC.
Thanks Ranalin, I actually really like crafting, I am looking forward to building too , I grew up with Lego. I just don't really enjoy the mad cut everything down around me to build up a resource pile.
Arovin, yes I did see poisoning on Set' s choice in the character creation, so I went with Set. I'll leave archery to later.

That's what i spend most my time doing. When i've reached my limit i go exploring or thrall gathering. Luckily my new area is near a thrall city and they drop steel instead of iron. So it helps bypass a step. You'll find though that you're going to be gated by some little things. Your tools keep getting better. I can gather up to 600+ items now without being overburdened, but more often than not i'm missing bark, brimstone, or ichor to make what i need.

100 wood takes what, 2-3 minutes of chopping? Also if you need bark use your pick on the trees instead of your axe, you'll get bark mixed in with wood at a decent rate.

You will be spending a significant amount of gametime harvesting.

I started trying to build a tier 2 wall yesterday and realized just how much iron stonebrick takes to make. So far have had plenty of brick and shaped wood but keep running out of iron reinforcements.

I'm building a wall mostly for Purge defense, how thick/tough does it need to be? There a certain height I should make it? Any good tutorials on building defenses just for the Purge?

I posted a video 1 or 2 pages back about defensive structures. The main thing is to have walls around your sensitive crafting stations. You can do this by creating ways to funnel bad guys through funnels you create or make it strong enough to take a beating. You still will have to be able to smack them down once they show up.

One big thing to note about reference material on this game. It's been in EA for 1.5 years. There's a metric ton of stuff out there for it. Sadly bulk of it is outdated. I recommend not watching/reading anything before April 2018. February at the latest.

The one video i watched about the purge was definitely outdated so what happened on our server caught me off guard.

For the iron... yea it's pretty much a non stop process to feed the building beast.

Personally i set up 2 furnaces. In EA i had 4 at the end, but it was over kill. I seriously think about using 3, but getting the advanced ones slowed me down there. The big thing is doing your best to get t3 thralls at a minimum or grab a named one if at all possible. The difference between a t4 and t2 thrall is night and day. It's more than a 50% gain in efficiency and time. What my t2 smelter can do in 1+ hours and over 100 coal my t4 smelter can do in 5-10 minutes and use only 50-70 coal. For every 3-4 iron runs (300+) i do a run to gather all the coal nearby to make sure they stay fired up.

I also have 2 blacksmiths that are churning out iron/steel reinforcements. Before i got the advanced versions i was trying to keep a minimum of 5 slots available for ore bars going in a cycle. Now i have more room and kinda juggle stuff around. While i have the room a person can only gather so much at a time...
