NFL 2016: Week 8

World Series Game 5 trounces Sunday Night Football in overnight TV ratings

Per Austin Karp of the Sports Business Daily: Fox’s broadcast of Game 5 of the World Series between the Cubs and Indians drew a 15.3 overnight rating, topping the Cowboys-Eagles overtime game on NBC by 32% (11.6 for Sunday Night Football). According to Sports Media Watch, it’s the first time since 2013 that the World Series has topped SNF head-to-head.

Probably because it's a compelling World Series. You know, Cubs and all.

Of course, Cowboys-Eagles is a pretty compelling matchup. The numbers are surprising.

"Look, there's a dildo on the field in Buffalo."

"You mean other than Rex Ryan?"

Hah!

Although, I think of Rex Ryan as more of a foot massager.

The Bears are winning. Why are the Bears winning. They need to lose out.

The Minnesota fandom seemed to think that a 5-0 start would have the team finish as something other than 5 - 11.

What's that? Football Outsiders spent a bunch of time talking about how Blake Bortles is a true Garbage Time man? Yes, yes they did.

It doesn't get much better than this:

In fact, the disparity between Bortles' numerical profile and his on-field achievements is so great, it has us re-thinking our entire quarterback analytical process.

Bortles is so confounding that FO is re-thinking how they score QBs. Not only is Bortles a bad QB, he's only good when the game doesn't matter and is causing a statistical revolution!

The issue is this: Bortles has a terrible habit of playing terribly in the first half of games. That's not entirely his fault -- the Jacksonville Jaguars, as a group, are usually a disaster before halftime. Then, in the second half, when the game has realistically been decided, Bortles "rallies" his team with some too-little, too-late touchdown drive(s) that boosts his statistics and narrows the game's final margin, but doesn't actually do much to help his team win.

Okay, Football Outsiders, I'm still with you, do you have any other interesting tidbits about the Garbage Man? You do? It can't possibly top what you've already said. No way, no sir.

All told, 25.9 percent of Bortles' touchdown passes have come in garbage time. That's the highest rate in history for any quarterback with at least 50 touchdown throws.

We aren't talking just about the DVOA era here (FO has only calculated DVOA back to 1989), but of all time. Currently, Blake Bortles is the all time Garbage Time King.

This is the greatest article ever written.

BORTLESMANIA!

God dammit Doogiemac where is my Dislike button?

This might be the greatest post in GWJ history.

You have to like the post first before you can unlike it.

Starting to wonder if the reason Legion likes Bortles so much is Bortles always does his thing once everything is done and decided, and maybe that's a symbolic representation of all of Legion's ninja edits he likes to do.

Well, color me surprised. Vic Beasley has 7.5 sacks on the season, 6.5 of them coming in October alone. He also has 3 forced fumbles.

Dante Fowler, who is effectively in his rookie year, has two sacks so far, all from one game. He's not even starting at this point.

You know, after the Josh Freeman and Blake Bortles experiences, maybe all the professional football teams in Florida should just officially retire #5 just to be safe.

The Jaguars should do it, too.

The shade.

So subtle.

I like.

Well, to be completely accurate, math is making fun of your quarterback. Garion's just pointing that out.

They don't pay her enough.

At least since you started kicking his ass in the pick 'ems.

I just want to thank you all so much. Work was excruciatingly difficult and boy has this made the day better.

So you're saying it started off really terrible and got better right near the end?

Have you considered renaming your day "Blake Bortles"?

Could be worse. Vector could have reason to rename his day "San Diego Chargers."

Holy sh*t.

That is some Grade-A smack MMD. Well done.

Norv Turner resigns as Vikings OC.

What. The. Actual. Fizzuck.

Wow. I'm looking forward to hearing what really happened there. As much as I like to make fun of Norv as a head coach, he's actually one of the better OCs of all time and I hope it's not health related.
