More details as they appear..

Day one, even if I'm playing a baby John Marsten riding a stick horse.

No mention of a PC version hurts... but the reason I bought an Xbone in the first place was to stream games to my PC to play anyway, so if needs must, I'll still be covered.

I never have and never will buy a console for a single game. So no PC version = lost sale. If they do what they did with GTA 5 and release a PC version much later, I'll consider buying it if reviews are really good. And if I can overcome my desire to speak with my wallet and decline buying the needlessly delayed PC version on principle.

So, looks like the rumors of it being about Marsten's younger days are true then? I suppose it's all in the details and execution and it could turn out quite well, but I was really hoping for an entirely new character and story -- I'm not especially interested in learning how he became a bad guy, you know?

It'd pretty much have to be a prequel since the last game pretty much saw the end of the Old West.

The game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.

It looks like we're consistently seeing a new direction for Rockstar.

What are you seeing that says John Marsten to you? The figure in the center? It definitely could be him, but it could be a generic cowboy as well.

RDR2 might be a placeholder name, but if it's real, it's a very awkward title for a direct prequel. I could believe one or the other, but not both.

I dunno, it could be a new story featuring new characters?

Yeah, I hope you're right about that -- but yeah, for some reason the figure in the center just screams Marsten to me, and the crew around him feels a lot like a crew of bad dudes like the gang he was supposed to have run in his youth.

I suppose we'll see on Thursday, though!

I'm excited, but a bit skeptical. The emotions the last game brought up were unusual for rock star game, I hope they are sensitive to why that game was so successful from a story point of view.

The top reddit comment about no PC version: Red Dead Resentment. Made me grin.

They might do one later, I suppose. But if they're doing multiplayer, the PC version of GTA5 was kind of a disaster, because their servers trust the client too much. You can do that on a locked console, but that's not a good idea on the PC.

If they're going multiplayer, and they probably are, they may just figure that the extra revenue from the PC isn't worth the hassle needed to do proper defensive coding in their backend.

I'm going to pin my hopes on the possibility that the Xbox One version will be able to be purchased and played through Windows 10 like Forza and Gears.

Probably a fruitless hope, but fingers crossed anyway.

I might upgrade to a PS4 Pro if its better on it.

EDIT: If it's better on the Scorpio, I'll get it on that instead.

Wow. There is a plague of misspellings going on here. I'll try to nip it in the bud by stating that the character's name is Marston, with an O.

The character in the center looks nothing like John Marston. The guy doesn't even have a beard. The only one that truly resembles Marston is the guy on the far left. The guy immediately to the right of center looks a bit like Williamson, especially with one side of his hat's bill bent up.

If RDR2 is actually a prequel with a story that takes place during the time Marston was in a gang, then the center character would have to be Dutch, as it was Dutch's gang that Marston and Williamson were in before the events of RDR1. That said, the man in the center doesn't look like Dutch from RDR1, both in the face and the fact that Dutch never wore a hat in RDR1.

ooooooh my goodness.....

SO MUCH EXCITE.

Great, now this is all I see when I read RDR2.

So...we're going from three grizzled male characters in GTA to seven grizzled male characters here?

Don't strain your diversity muscles too much there, Rockstar.

MeatMan - if you zoom in, the center character has heavy stubble, FWIW.

In any case I'm hoping for an all-new story, maybe with a cameo or two (the traveling tonic salesman would be a humorous callback). I imagine we'll know all about the main character(s) on Thursday.

Opening act. You play a young John Marston sitting on his horse and fidgeting nervously with the reigns. It's his first bank robbery and the crew is side-eyeing the new guy and wondering if he has what it takes. They raise their bandanas to their faces and ride into town.

The sheriff, sitting on his rocking chair with a bottle of whiskey in his lap sees the bandits riding into town, spits and puts the bottle on the ground, replacing it with a rifle he has sitting beside him. He takes careful aim, pulls the trigger and shoots John Marston dead.

You play the sheriff. Splash screen. Red Dead Redemption 2.

Please be on PC. Please release a PC version of Red Dead Redemption. I've always been fascinated this the game. I love westerns and open world games but this was released right at a time where I just wasn't capable of playing it.

The only problem with this is you playing as a "young" John Marston. Marston was birthed a fully outfitted, cigarette smoking 30 year old man. Or so legends say.

I bought a PS3 in order to play Red Dead Redemption.

*pause*

Last month.

Yea, I was late to the party. Oddly that didn't seem to diminish my fun in the slightest.

RDRedemption is far better known that it's previous game and has legitimate value as a brand name. If it was Red Dead Revenge (or whatever) it probably wouldn't market test as well.

But then how will I get my mod desire of seeing the Hulkbuster Armor tearing through the Old West?

He even told us that in Spanish, "¡Mi nombre es John Marston!"

It's based on Westerns. Their other option was to go with this;

ah, the old "b..b..bbbuuuuuuut accuraccy!" defence.

Tagging because cowboys.
