New World - Catch All

Stryker,
Right there with you...enjoyable and interesting...but nothing has grabbed me hard to make me not want to leave. I found myself back to my snow mountain building in Valheim today...and that can't be a good sign for New World.

I'm wondering if I'm missing something here with New World. I'm about 6 hours in. I've done quite a bit of gathering/crafting, got to level 10, and chosen my faction. I was waiting for the main story quests to start moving with more story and...nothing. I've got some options to pull job board quests that are random kill x,y,z. I've got faction quests, but I don't really care about PVP, I'm wanting to focus more on PVE. Am I missing something obvious that I've overlooked in story progression and narrative?

There’s a main quest line about organizing forces and fighting against the island that takes you all over the map and into the dungeons but I don’t remember what it’s called. It should be labeled under main story in your journal, sometimes missions don’t automatically pin to the quest tracker and you have to manually select them.

Also, each zone has it's own side-quest lines, there should still be a few quest givers in the starting zones that have quest lines for you at level 10.

You can also leave your starting zone and try one of the other starting zones which will have their own local side-quest chains, as will all of the zones as you progress.

Faction quests shouldn't be ignored. They're the primary way of leveling up. There's PvE (the top row) and PvP flavors

Looks like server queues are gone/fixed. Still can't create new toons on heavy pop servers though.

One of our group doesn't have a character on Krocylea and don't think they are able to make one. On Diyu it's pretty empty compared to the beta. Last I checked only two territories were taken and I don't come across many people in the wild. The upside is the respawn rates are still set for high population. So there's no competition for mobs, camps, or resources.

The devs said they were looking at character transfers within two weeks. We will wait and see, but I doubt we can move to a heavy server. We will probably try to move to a medium though if it's free.

Actually, from reading the dev tracker they were still saying last night that their goal is to allow friends to play with friends and that the transfers will support this and that as soon as today new characters will be able to be created on high pop servers.

You should see an entry in your quest log under "Main Story". It initially has you visiting a hermit near a fishing hot spot, but if you follow the chain it opens up into a story about the Soulwardens. I think it starts in Windsward.

yea, i was trying to tell everyone i was so good at this game that i was worth that many people but no one bought it.

couple of us playing on Oponskoye (US East). Very active but no queues that i've seen.

I thought it was common knowledge, but thought I'd share because I guess it's not:

If you have light armor (or medium, though less effective) as you roll, press x mid-way through your roll to animation cancel the standing up after a roll. So long as you don't run out of stamina it gives you a 10-15% boost in speed which is useful for beating people to resources or just getting places faster.

So I'm still enjoying the mechanics and simple systems of the game like gathering. I do wonder why they totally skipped out on a lot of QoL stuff such as previewing gear, dungeon finder etc etc. Wasn't this in development for quite a bit?

They completely went back to the drawing board with the game about two to three years ago, before that it was a completely pvp game, with full corpse looting, think OG Ultima Online.

Realizing that either wasn't fun or the very limited market of such a game, they pivoted to the half sandbox, half pvp game we have now. So, the dungeons, the pve quest lines and the like have been all added in the last couple of years.

Personally, considering the pve content is so new, I'm hopeful that they can continue to add to that side of the game at a rapid clip.

Trying to create a character on Riallaro but it says it's closed to new characters.

Edit: Looks like all the OG servers are closed. None mentioned in this thread are open. Looks like I'll go to Mu (US East) and wait for server transfers.

Looks like they've opened up new character creations on these servers again.
I've created an account on Riallaro which I'm starting to level up, and hope to join the group. What faction is the company in?

I was in the alpha for the early version of the game and it was basically just a Rust/Ark clone with a sort of problematic colonial coat of paint. If I recall correctly I think the original version even took place in North America instead on a fantasy island.

We are Covenant. The Yellow Faction. What is character name?

Nope always been fantasy island...

I remember the map being one long vertical coastline with things getting more difficult the further you got from it- didn’t seem very islandy to me but I only played maybe a dozen hours or so until I hit the point where I couldn’t progress any further without joining a clan and the public chat wasn’t making me super eager to play socially.

Just created a character on Riallaro, her name is Cee Shanty.

Going to try a life staff build I think... See how viable it is soloing, because I know how necessary it is in groups!

Life staff starts off a little slow but it's pretty strong.

Like always, the crafting/economy elements of this have me really curious, still not sure if it's worth the plunge though. How much would crafting require getting into the PVP side of the game?

Not at all for the early levels. It doesn’t look to me like that changes but I might be missing something.

PvP is opt in. Period. It's just for faction v faction rep and if your side wins it's just some QoL benefits.

Well, sounds like it's only a matter of time until I cave then -- even if there's crafting mats that can only be picked up via PvP, as long as they're not bind-on-pickup so you can acquire them via trade, then that's fine with me.

I’ve been having a lot of fun with a life staff and hatchet build I haven’t put any hatchet relevant attribute points in, but will all the healing and defensive buffs the two provide it’s pretty hard to kill me. Hatchet comes with a perk that increases damage based on the number of enemies nearby, so pulling big groups works pretty well.

Im always bad at one on one PvP in these games, but stay flagged when that is a thing for the extra tension, just accepting I’ll likely die a lot. I don’t think I’ve suddenly improved, but so far no one in my level range has been able to kill me. As long as I can cast and stay within my healing pool stuff, I’m hard to kill even without potions and food, and really hard to kill with them. If someone were to stay close and keep pushing me out and interrupting any recasts I would drop quickly. So far no one I’ve faced has caught on to that, though I presume that won’t last.

I'm Beric Dondarrian on Riallaro (I also posted in discord)

i've been running life staff/hatchet as well. all my attributes go into focus. life staff damage is good. hatchet triggering the life staff abilities plus berserk makes you almost unkillable (short of running into an elite with high burst damage)

Played around with my life staff until level 14, then went back to my level 29 great axe. It's just so much more satisfying combat.
