NFL 2016: Week 4

So everyone's really into these late games, huh?

The sideline stuff seems more entertaining.

And that's why Gabbert doesn't usually throw it more than 8 yards downfield.

Torrey Smith had Claiborne flat out beat. That was a touchdown that Gabbert turned into a turnover.

I'm trying to figure out what jersey to get. If he keeps this up, it would be an easy choice.(Urlacher and Forte are gone and I feel weird sporting my Cutler jersey)

Just think how weird Cutler feels...

Another T-storm delay in TB. Maybe more road games in the early part of the season?

There's a reason they play baseball indoors there.

Horsecollar and helmet to helmet by the Rams. Trying to give it away

waitwaitwaitwaitwait. Travis Kelce is doing his own Bachelor show?

Ware is lucky Belichick doesn't coach the Chiefs, or he'd never be heard from again.

This is not a good situation.

Is showing off football memes on SNF a regular thing or just during blowouts of this magnitude?

That was a SNF game worthy of being a TNF game.

It seemed like a good match up at the start of the season, but what a snooze fest.

Were his incomplete passes elite?

You have to put that loss on James Hurst. He was as worthless as Trump's self control.

And Ryan Jensen. The left side of the line was backups. Once the Ravens began running more they were much more successful. That's on the OC.

If only they could've kept Osemele around...

Anyone seen the Panthers? Carolina HQ lost contact with the team bus early Sunday morning on I-85 in South Carolina. Weird that they still played the game. I guess they rounded up some kids from Georgia State and some of the local high schools and put 'em in Panthers jerseys, huh?

Huh? Huh?

Yeah, I guess I'm not buying that either. *sigh*

In related news, I'm digging a subbasement solely for the Panthers under the odl NFC South cellar. You do *not* want to know what the Bucs and Saints did to the old basement.

I benched Matt Ryan in one fantasy league because of Carolina D, guess I don't need to bother avoiding them anymore as they aren't nearly what they were last year. I bet Josh Norman is laughing his head off.

Time for the Bort report!

Pretty soon we'll start referring to the Bort as Rodney Dangerfield, Jr.

For comparison:

Ouch

Hey, you dropped this:

STILL MORE ELITE THAN FLACCO

No kidding.

That said, DB isn't an issue when you're getting consistent pressure on the QB. And Carolina isn't doing that this year. That's the Panthers' problem in a nutshell.

This is just harsh to both parties mentioned:

Don't say I never liked any of your posts, *Legion*.

Not exactly the highest bar to cross.

Why it's better to look at stats than to take my dumb impressions of something:

Carolina is getting the same amount of pressure on opposing QBs, but opposing teams (especially ATL) have figured out that they need to attack the Panthers deep. Guess what? It's working!

Here's Bill Barnwell on why Denver's still soaring and why Carolina sucks.

We've seen bad officiating cost teams in close games a few times already this year, but this takes the cake.

Those two team nicknames side by side looks...ick.

Actually saw an article today that said the oopposite: "The good news for Carolina is that it's still getting a lot of pressure. Last year, the Panthers bothered the opposing quarterback on 28.7 percent of dropbacks. Through four games this year, their pressure rate is at ... 28.7 percent. Not bad. That's the sixth-best rate in the NFL. The problem is when they don't get pressure. Last year, when the Panthers couldn't get pressure on the opposing passer, they were still third in the league in opposing passer rating and 11th in QBR. This year, when they leave the quarterback alone, Carolina is 19th in opposing passer rating and 28th in QBR."

I think their problem is trying to run the same kind of defense they ran last year but with rookies and not pro bowlers in the secondary and somehow thinking it would work.

Oh, you mean this story?

Edit: The rookies aren't really the issue. Bene Benwikere, who started last year until he got hurt, gave up most of Jones' big catches on Sunday. And Tre Boston at safety isn't a huge dropoff from 90-year-old Charles Tillman. I think right now the Panthers are running the same ol' same ol' and everyone's figured out how to counter it.

I'm most disappointed that Carolina didn't find a couple of spare (and decent) O-linemen like it has in the past. Mike Remmers at LT is pretty ugly. Darryl Williams (Remmers' sub on the right side) is way beyond ugly.

Oh, well. It's regression to the mean time in Charlotte, and it's no fun.
