Halloween-all!

It is almost that time of year again, so what better way to kick it off than a thread right here?! What sorts of things will Goodjers be getting up to this year? Any festivities? Are you creating costumes? Post them here!

I'm currently debating between a costume of Valak (from Conjuring II) or of a gender-bent Betelgeuse (from Beetlejuice) for a costume party some friends are having. It's sort of tough! While I'd love to be the ghost with the most, that will be a fair bit harder to do than Valak.

Im going as Charlie Brown, I just need to decide if I want to shave my head or not.

Have you ever done it before?

My wife and I are a little stuck. Normally we don't do costumes, the kids just do them. So the kids are power rangers this year and for the first time we're doing Boo at the Zoo at the National Zoo (On Oct. 22nd). Now, since we're going to this event, I feel a little obligated to do a costume. We were thinking power rangers villains but that seems fairly elaborate for someone who hasn't made a costume before. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Timon and Pumba.

I feel like if I mentioned this to the wife, her first response would be.. "Who's he thinking will be Pumbaa" and then the second thing she would do is drive to your house and punch you repeatedly.

I feel you are hung up on the wrong thing. It is an ideal couples costume for an event at a zoo. That's all I am saying.

For myself, I think I will be going with my wife and her work friends to Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia sometime next week. It is spooky and haunted and full of terror!

I've heard that place is super spooky. Have fun!

Also, I see where you're going with the costume idea. That's a good direction to start looking.

My bjj gym is having a luchador roll. We all have to wear masks.

You could be a guy with an earache. All you need is a heating pad to hold against your face.

I did last year. I had a friend going through chemo, so I shaved my head as long as she was bald. I looked ok...well for me.

Me, with hair.

Me, sans hair.

All you need is a white bed sheet with holes all over it.

Yes, victory! For originality!

I spent way too much time trying to find this photo, but I went to a party dressed as Charlie Brown a few years ago. No head shaving necessary, just a cheap rubber basketball, some tan spray paint, a big yellow t-shirt and a sharpie marker.

The real Charlie Brown for reference:

Or for a more "meta" version...

(sorry for saying "meta")

Every year around October I immerse myself in horror and otherwise spooky media. I got off to a great start this year by reading Hell House, a novel by Richard Matheson, who wrote the original I Am Legend and several other notable works. It was a fantastic book! According to the blurb, Stephen King thinks it's the best haunted house novel of all time.

I wonder what King thinks about his son's haunted house masterpiece Locke & Key, which is a comic series (completed a while ago). It is an utterly fantastic story, and the art is good enough for even me to notice. It's always one of my top recommendations in the Comics, Etc. thread.

I also tend to listen to some Opeth during the month, as they embody a whole spectrum of Halloween-appropriate moods, from merely slightly spooky and haunted to hell on earth. This year I started things off with their album Still Life.

I'm trying to get into some Lovecraft reading now, and have just barely started At The Mountains of Madness. I try reading some HPL every October.

Finally, I'm hoping to have a couple horror-themed board game nights, featuring games like Betrayal at House on the Hill, Mysterium, and possibly Mansions of Madness 2nd edition.

What are y'all doing to get into the spooky mood?
