I decided to just put a John Oliver clip in this thread and change the name and scope rather than start a separate thread for Oliver's stuff.
So just put any video stuff in here; Samantha Bee, John Oliver, Seth Green, etc.
Lets start with the Sept 19th stuff
Whatever we may think about this moment, our practice is just to return to it. This moment is where all beings exist.

Nation’s Optimists Need To Shut The f*ck Up Right Now
WASHINGTON—Saying their rosy attitude about the state of the election was not helping anything given what is currently transpiring, sources confirmed Tuesday night that the nation’s optimists need to seriously shut the f*ck up as soon as humanly f*cking possible. “Sure, things may look bad right now, but even if the worst happens, it’s only four years we’re talking about here,” said Santa Fe, NM resident Pete Mirenge, one of hundreds of thousands of positive thinkers across the nation who would do everyone a huge goddamn favor by closing their f*cking traps right this f*cking second and keeping them sealed for the foreseeable future. “This is exactly why we have a system of checks and balances—to ensure that whatever happens in the election, the executive branch never gets too much power. Think about it: Has any president been able to carry out their platform to the letter? No. Nothing’s ever as bad as it seems, believe me.” According to sources, a calm and composed Mirenge—who reportedly has about five seconds before his mouth is shut for him—then added that the country’s been through much worse and everything turned out okay
No one reads these.
Grey is a very smart individual, but comparing the electoral college to the popular vote is invalid. The electoral college is designed to prevent the tyranny of the majority. The problem is that most states have a winner-takes-all rule for allocating electors, so the thing feeding the thing that guards against majority rule is itself a victim of majority rule.
Jonman, what planet are you on?
I was halfway through an explanation of why I think the EC isn't actually a bad idea. Then realised that some well meaning rationality may not be suitable right now.
People are raw and I'm going to allow them to blame whatever they like for now. If anyone wants my theories I'll share them, otherwise I'm keeping quiet.

I have to say this one struck a chord with me.
In many ways trump isn't "to blame." He simply used the system as build, used people as needed, and won.
the majority agreed and cheered on what he said.
the majority did not laugh him off stage.
On the flip side, just because it's possible to gain electoral success by stoking xenophobia doesn't mean it's moral to do so.

Can we replace Bernie with Elizabeth Warren?

This seems about the most fitting place for a quote from a print source, America: the Book, created by The Daily Show:
The three branches would in essence police each other with an elaborate system of safeguards and precautions that would prevent power from being concentrated in too few hands. Quipped a jubilant Hamilton, "The only way it could fail is if one party gained control of not just the Executive, but also the Senate and House chambers, and upon doing so, proceeded to bring in like-minded judges!!!!" And then the Framers all laughed and laughed and laughed.
