I decided to just put a John Oliver clip in this thread and change the name and scope rather than start a separate thread for Oliver's stuff.
So just put any video stuff in here; Samantha Bee, John Oliver, Seth Green, etc.
need the sound on but it is a good mashup.
Sometimes people use “respect” to mean “treating someone like a person” and sometimes they use “respect” to mean “treating someone like an authority” and sometimes people who are used to being treated like an authority say “if you won’t respect me I won’t respect you” and they mean “if you won’t treat me like an authority I won’t treat you like a person”
You got to be crazy, you gotta have a real need
You gotta sleep on your toes and when you're on the street
You got to be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes closed
And then moving in silently, down wind and out of sight
You got to strike when the moment is right without thinking
I think Rage Against the Machine was badly underestimating when they sang some of those that work forces are the same that burn crosses.
That ending!
I love her lip sync videos!
I can't believe he's still using "nobody's ever heard of." He really, really loves that phrase doesn't he.
I have a bit of reading to catch up on.
*need the sound on but it is funny.
[[ Trump video snipped ]]
The only thing that might have made this better, is if they'd done the second part with a rubber chicken cover.
Trevor Noah has really been killing it the past few weeks
Self-satire, I guess? A bit of a palate cleanser I stumbled upon.
I get a little more angry every time I see one of these side by side Fox News comparisons because of the sheer number of people who mindlessly follow these hypocritical voices, and because I know that nothing will ever convince them of the hypocrisy.
Hard to call it satire at this point.
Detailing what must be done as the dead-eyed chief justice scrawled a plan on his basement wall, the voices that had always whispered the founding fathers’ intent to John Roberts told him Tuesday that now is the time for him to slaughter the country’s leadership and seize the government for himself. “You have performed well, John, and honored our legacy—now is the time to heed our words and finish the job,” said the voices to Roberts, who nodded his head and repeated every word to himself as he flicked a lighter and pulled a shotgun from his closet. “Only you can do this, John, only you can make Washington and Jefferson happy and restore this great nation. You know what must be done. You know where Mitch McConnell lives, John. You were chosen, and now you must play your part and make our original intent manifest.” At press time, Roberts was waiting quietly in the West Wing for an impromptu meeting with President Trump.
FEAR: step 1 of any government of tyranny. (See other examples Hitler, Stalin, Putin, North Korea, China, terrorist groups, cults, Middle school girls)
When republicans have shown they have no morals, scruples or values except power then you can't play this happy-time sweet game of morality. They don't care, they have shown they don't care. Democrats need to stop pretending and living in a fantasy world.
I agree that they can't be naïve in their strategies, but if Democrats sacrifice what's left of their integrity in the process, (what's left of) my faith in federal government will vanish. They've been in bed with plutocrats for decades and ignored progressive interests for too long. What's left if they sacrifice any remaining pretense of respect for the rule of law and institutional norms?
I guess I'll choose anarchy over tyranny if I must, then hope my passport doesn't expire before a sympathetic country will let my family in.
It’s not that they have to sacrifice their integrity, it’s that they have to stop thinking that their “good” behavior will in any way impact GOP “bad” behavior. You cannot shame someone who is shameless.
