[News] Satirical News Show Clips

I decided to just put a John Oliver clip in this thread and change the name and scope rather than start a separate thread for Oliver's stuff.

So just put any video stuff in here; Samantha Bee, John Oliver, Seth Green, etc.

And Amber says Why?

Stayed up and caught that last night, was great.

How Racist is Boston? Roy Wood, Jr. finds out.

But blacks don't count as people, so no cognitive dissonance there, right? /s

- what a messy office. It makes me tense just seeing his workspace.

Strongly tempted to post this in the GIF thread, if I could embed the clip directly. It's really good.

Kavanaugh Touts His Virginity to Refute Allegations of Sexual Assault | The Daily Show

Kavanaugh Claims He Never Committed Sexual Assault As It Will Be Defined After Future Supreme Court Case

The Onion wrote:

WASHINGTON—Speaking before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Brett Kavanaugh defended himself against accusations of misconduct Thursday with claims that he never committed sexual assault as it will come to be defined in a future Supreme Court case. “The allegations that I assaulted these women are categorically untrue based on the 2019 case of Sandberg v. Jones, which will establish that only penetrative sex can be classified as assault, and then only in cases with up to four eye-witnesses,” said Kavanaugh, arguing that the upcoming 5-4 decision in which he will write the majority opinion would completely exonerate him. “Admittedly, there are things from my past that cause me to cringe, but I have never done anything that could be considered illegal based on this landmark ruling that will come up in the next few months. Furthermore, these accusations are largely irrelevant as they fall significantly outside the soon-to-be-established statute of limitations of two weeks following an alleged incident.” Kavanaugh added that this whole ordeal had been extremely trying for him and his family, and he looked forward to pursuing legal action against Christine Blasey Ford for violating forthcoming laws against defaming a federal judge.

Wow, that's really dark even for the Onion. Scathing.

This is the only coverage I needed of yesterday's events:

"Have her washed and sent to my tent."

Kavanaugh: "Today I have to say that I fear for the future."
Colbert: "Hashtag me too."

The last minute of that second Colbert clip is worth watching and rewatching a second time. Truth so clearly and succinctly laid out warrants more than a passing viewing.

Yes! I'm so glad he gave a solid counter to that asinine statement by the (alleged) rapist. I also love his expression and nod as they were cutting away. Colbert is a national treasure. I really need a shot of laughter to get me through the news, never more so than now. I've been relying on Colbert, Trevor Noah and Seth Meyers a lot lately.

SNL was on fire last night.

The Fortnite skit was pretty funny too, but that's a bit OT.

I agree. There were a couple of other pretty good skits, too. And Kanye was, well, Kanye.

p.s. do NOT read the youtube comments

Unless you want to lose IQ per word.

Trump: "She's shocked I picked her, she's in a state of shock."
Vega: I'm not, thank you Mr. President.
Trump: "I know you're not thinking, you never do."
Vega: "I'm sorry?"
Trump: "Go ahead"

This is the president of the united states.

I just- ... it’s just- ... like how on earth- ... I-

...

I stared for like 5 minutes unable to get much beyond these micro racing thoughts. I thought I wouldn’t be shocked any more. I thought I’d become “used” to all this.

And then there’s just another thing. Personal, hateful attacks in person and on recorded broadcast. How depraved do you have to be to smirk at that? Not just him, but that whole group of people.

You can just hear the reporters deep, calming breath in the silence before asking her question. She deserves honors for keeping her composure in the face of that crap. We all know he wouldn’t. And he’s supposed to be the president.

If there were any integrity left in non-investigative journalists they would all boycott these events en masse. Just leave the cameras rolling to record his tantrums, but don't listen or ask questions. He doesn't answer questions anyway. I'm sure some of them thought this was funny, so on we go.

Well, the transcript actually fits the context better, and is equally demeaning. Not that its not plausible the president would lob a non-sequitor insult at a female reporter.

To be honest, the transcript is what I thought he said when I first heard the clip yesterday. Dude slurs and mumbles with no filter so often it could go either way, though.

White House corrects Trump's insult in press conference transcript

Politico wrote:

The White House on Tuesday corrected its official transcript of President Donald Trump's Monday press conference in which he insulted an ABC reporter.

At Monday's Rose Garden press conference, held to mark the trade deal agreement struck by the U.S., Canada and Mexico, Trump called on ABC News' Cecilia Vega. As Vega was waiting for a microphone to be passed to her, Trump said, “she’s shocked that I picked her. Like in a state of shock.”

“I’m not, thank you, Mr. President," Vega responded.

"That’s okay. I know you’re not thinking, you never do," Trump replied.

The initial transcript, released several hours after the press conference, quoted as Trump saying, "I know you're not thanking. You never do."

This administration...had this happened with any other president it would dominated multiple news cycles and been a serious scandal. But with Trump it's just the second or third sh*tty thing he did that day and something that the bumbling idiots he put on the White House staff tried to cover up.

Res ipsa is shown not to work on Trump supporters. They'd still find a way to call it "fake news."
