My iPhone 15 Pro has accepted every cable I’ve thrown at it - Amazon Basics, Anker, HP laptop charger, Steam Deck charger, etc.
You may have gotten a Monday iPhone.
Is the USB-C implementation so bad for everyone, or was my iPhone manufactured on a Monday? Only the cables I researched and bought specifically for the iPhone 15 work more or less, all others either won't connect properly or come loose immediately.
I have a 15 and I use all kinds of USB-C cables. I frequently charge with Steam Deck and Switch power adapters. I’ve used cables from all kinds of manufacturers. The only thing that gives me trouble seems to be really cheap USB-A to USB-C cables.
Thanks guys. It’s actually reassuring to know it’s not Apple but just bad luck of the draw. I’m going to buy an additional Qi2 charger for on the road as well, for my standard travel kit.
My iPhone 16 works way better with random USB-C cables than my 12 mini did with random Lightning cables. Sometimes ports just get a lose connection.
I also had to periodically use a toothpick to dig lint out of my lightning port. This time around I have a case that covers the port, so hopefully I won't have to work out how to safely do that for a USB-C slot.
I can charge from any USB-C cable but the port is like slightly oversized or something because the plugs constantly fall out with even the slightest movement. At first I thought maybe lint or something was just jammed in there but no, clean as a whistle.
Luckily I already mostly use mag chargers and was only using cables at work.
Sounds like they're not actually seated correctly/completely. Are you using a case with an opening that's too narrow or of a material slightly too thick to get the plug firmly in?
One of the first things I considered but it’s like that even with no case.
My guess is there's something loose inside the phone.
I made it to the gym yesterday, and gave the new AirPods Pro 2 firmware a good test. It's one of those ones where you go for an hour class and a trainer talks everyone through it while loud music plays. In the past I've been using some inexpensive "for music" earplugs to cut the volume down. This time I used my AirPods, and they worked great. They both brought the overall volume down to where it wasn't giving me sensory issues, and boosted the right frequencies so my ailing ears could actually hear the instructor.
I'm still not to the point where I'm going to be leaving them in all the time, but it sure is a good tool to have on hand at this stage of my hearing loss. Once I do find myself wanting them all the time then it'll be time to look into something designed to be worn like that.
Anyone use Apple's HomeKit as a basis for their smart home devices? I'm interested in starting to get more into the smart home stuff, and considering getting an Apple TV 4K this Christmas to act as the hub. I'm not entirely sure where to start, but the Apple TV device also has other functions I'm interested in, so it seems like a good way to knock out a few birds with one stone.

Yes.

Apple TVs are the best choices for hubs for HomeKit, so that would be a good move indeed.
I just installed the Schlage Encode Plus smart deadbolt on my front door. Being able to unlock it with a tap of my Apple Watch (or iPhone) is incredibly handy, as is being able to add (and revoke) keypad codes for guest access.
One of my tasks for this weekend is to finally install some smart light switches.
I was having all kinds of issues with my AirPods Pro recently. The hearing aid functions would sporadically stop working and the active noise cancellation wasn't performing well. It turned out the microphones were dirty. Giving them a good cleaning seems to have restored them. Linking the relevant videos here in case anyone else runs into this issue:

That's the most useful YouTube video I've seen this year.
Thinking about getting ahead of the impending tariffs and getting one of the new M4 computers. Now to decide between getting a Mini for my desk or replacing my i9 MacBook Pro...
I was waiting for confirmation that my new work contract was going to start before getting an M4 Mac mini. Now that the contract is signed (as of Thursday), I haven't bought it yet because I can't decide if I want the base model or the Pro model.
I'm leaning Pro at the moment. More expensive, but I can afford it (and expense it since I'm self employed), and it will last me longer...
