The party of "personal responsibility".

Exactly. So long as the person is one Barack Hussein Obama.

NPR explained to me how terrible an idea this bill was in 45 seconds on my commute to work. Now granted, I wouldn't expect any of my congressional delegation to pick up on it that fast--my dog can sit, stand, and remembers that he usually gets treats at PetCo, so I give him a 50/50 shot against any of them at chess--but still, any one of them could have found someone to use single-syllable words, brightly colored manipulatables, and perhaps a catchy song to explain it to them.

Brands to Ad Agencies: Diversify or Else

Interesting read. It seems to be sinking in with corporations that diversity is good business. But the advertising industry is slow to pick up on that.

Huh, this one's interesting:

“Trek against Trump” urges voters to choose Hillary Clinton

Ars Technica wrote:

Riker, Dax, LaForge, Data, Janeway, Sulu, and even Wesley Crusher are against Trump.

Over 100 prominent members of the Star Trek cast and crew have written an open letter against Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Not sure how appropriate this seems, but they've got kind of a point, that Trump's pretty much the antithesis of the Trek vision of the future.

I hope some Romulan cosplayers start a pro Trump movement.

Another interesting one, posted a couple days ago. I missed it, originally:

Did attackers take down Newsweek because of an anti-Trump story?

Ars Technica wrote:

Reporter tweeted Friday: “Lots of IP addresses involved. Main ones from Russia.”

[snip]

Newsweek suspects that attackers took down its site for hours on Thursday in order to bury a story about a company that Donald Trump owned decades ago. The magazine claims that the company secretly did business in Cuba, even though that was illegal at the time.

[long snip]

In an e-mail to Ars, Impoco reiterated that the publication is "still investigating” and that investigators have “nothing definitive. As with any DDoS attack, there are a lot of IP addresses, but the main ones are Russian.” He said it remains too early to say what significance, if any, comes from the large number of Russian IPs.

As they say in the article, the mere fact that it was Russian IP space doesn't automatically mean it was Russia that did it, but AFAIK it's kind of unusual to see a DoS with so many IPs coming out of their network space.

And it may be working, as Trump violating the Cuba embargo doesn't seem to be getting much traction.

Ferengis, surely.

Quark is against Trump. He signed the list and has been posting things on twitter for months.

Quark isn't a very good Ferengi though. He has empathy and is ok with feeemales wearing clothes.

It's a shame Ferengis are all so short, so that normal cosplayers can't do them well. It would be hilarious to see a troupe of them pushing Trump.

"Vote for the human with the heart of gold-pressed latinum!"

Since we are in the International Year of Awful Elections and Referendums, it sounds like Colombia added one to the list.

I wish politicians would grow up and take their job serious, instead of throwing a referendum every time they want to shed responsibility.

Iraqis Use 9/11 Bill to Demand Compensation from US for 2003 Invasion

In light of a bill passed by the US Congress allowing families of 9/11 victims to sue Saudi Arabia, Iraqis have asked their parliament to demand compensation for the US invasion of Iraq.

Damn that Obama. He should have vetoed harder.

GOP Senator: 'Nobody Really Believes' That Next Prez Should Get SCOTUS Pick

From the headline I thought he meant that even the next President shouldn't get to pick, but he's saying that actually we're (the GOP) all full of sh*t and should be letting Obama choose.

My sincere hope is that Obama pulls Garland nomination after the election if this is their plan.

Yeah, from that article:

"If we come to a point where we've lost the election, and we can get a centrist like Garland in there as opposed to someone like Hillary Clinton might appoint then I'd go for it," he said.

That's a pile of crap, and I hope Obama withdraws the nomination immediately after the polls close.

"I feel that as I am leaving office in a few months, and the process of confirmation is uncertain and could extend well into Ms. Clinton's presidency, I have no choice but to remove Judge Garland from consideration. Thank you for understanding that I will not be taking questions on this at this time, I'm late for a meeting with the president-elect, Attorney General Lynch, Judge Sri Srinavasan and Sen. Elizabeth Warren. Enjoy your afternoon."

*handed a football from off-stage*

*spikes it*

*rips mic off podium*

*drops it*

*exit stage left*

I know that all sounds fun but I don't think for a second that Obama would do that. He seems to really care about the future of the country and wants to get a good judge to an important job.

The fact that President Obama has more integrity in his black pinkies than the entire Republican party has put together hasn't affected any Republican policies in the last eight years, why should it affect my daydreams of rhetorically rubbing the Republicans nose in their immoral and unconstitutional pettiness?

Hey, I buy lottery tickets so I am all about daydreams. I mostly just wanted to point out another reason I respect Obama.

How about instead we both daydream that when Merrick Garland is instated he ends his instatement into the office by stating "Thanks Obama" and shaking his hand?

Honestly I don't think that Obama will withdraw Garland, but I don't think he'll need to, there are enough Democrats in the Senate to hold up the process aren't there? If Garland is chosen it will be because not only did Obama not withdraw him, but because Obama put on severe, huge pressure on the Democratic party to ignore all of the blood in the water and stand by an earlier offer that was never actually taken.

Southwest Airlines kicks Muslim off a plane for saying ‘inshallah’, meaning ‘God willing’ in Arabic

Before hanging up, he said the Islamic phrase in Arabic of "inshallah", meaning "God willing".

He noticed a woman staring at him as he hung up the phone. He thought at first she had been irritated by how loud he was speaking.

"One guy came with police officers within two minutes — I can't believe how fast they were — and told me to get off the plane," he told CNN.

An agent escorted him outside and asked him why he was speaking in Arabic considering "today’s political climate".

Stares blankly... "Today's political climate... You mean 'racist'?"

That's supper sh*tty. FWA - 'flying while Arabic-looking/sounding' is in the ugly pile with DWB - 'driving while black'.

I like to hope that it's an isolated incident, but sad that I'd lay money that it's not.

I guess I shouldn't play Civ IV too loudly on a plane...

You're only allowed to play White countries on airplanes.

Already a few past examples. FWA got a professor of mathematics kicked off the plain for writing out formulas for his classes.
