Amplitude is such a great studio. Really excited for this.
RPS did an interview with them: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/201...
The folks over at eXplorminate have an early-early-access video:
EDIT: Just added a new one:
PREDICTION: Veloxi will hate the combat, and thus, the game.
Be aware that this is very early access - tech tree does have previous requirements yet for choosing techs, and you can only play to turn 100.

I was like 2 seconds away from purchasing this until I read about those limitations. I think I will wait this one out for a bit.
The recent 3MA episode with the amplitude dev was really interesting. I really like what they did with Endless Legend and it looks like they are really trying to do something interesting with Endless Space 2.
Amplitute quickly becoming one of my favourite studios.
I did try a bit of the early access. This has promise. I may have a look at this faction tonight.
Is this better than the first? I got bored pretty quickly with the first one.

Yes.
..
.
OK slightly longer answer. They got rid of the wonky card based combat system, expanded on their world building through line and are incorporating the story/quest elements from Endless Legend. They seem to be pushing hard to have factions that have a distinct play style and feel.
So... beyond that it's hard to say, it really depends on why you bounced off the first one. This is better, but its hard to say if it's better enough and in the right way.
I love the idea of the Horatio faction
I;m glad they brought Horatio back. Was one of the interesting parts for the original game.
Does the game go beyond turn 100 now?
Edit: Looks like yes, the turn limit was removed several months ago.
Actually played more than 20 turns now on this update.
Quite interesting with the politics, etc. The updated tech tree is also a lot more interesting. I'm quite hopeful for this game.
Played about 1.5 hours of this and before I knew it, it was almost midnight!
Beautiful UI. Nice graphics. And the text is actually readable at 1440p (Stellaris I cant read the text)
Still not a big fan of the tech tree. Just so much in there. I wish they did it like Civ. Like 5 techs at a time. Half the stuff I'm researching I'm not really sure what they are going to do.
But shaping up to be a great 4x game.

Agree... I played a full game as the Sophons under this patch. The tech tree is interesting but I had no idea at a given time what I should be going for.
Got a supremacy victory, but three AI civs threatened to take an economic victory before that. Tracking the win conditions before I started rolling over everyone, I was #1 in all the categories except economy (5th).
There's the foundation for something really nice here but still quite a way to go.
The early access is definitely not big. I think a game only last 2-3 hours on normal speed. The last game I played, I was number 1 on all conditions except Economy. I was making 11k dust per turn and lost!!!
Yeah.. Pancazu (sp?) was saying he turns of econ victory because it's too easy.
My fellow Goodjers, it seems the full release for Endless Space 2 is scheduled for 19 May!
I haven't even purchased Utopia for Stellaris yet, however the new shiny stuff in this game look terribly enticing.
Has anyone here had a more thorough play through in the Early Access release?
I think it just launched a day early?
Looks like it! Awesome! I picked up the game a week or so ago but decided to wait for the final update and release before playing.
Picked this up ages ago, but left it alone until it was finished. Very "Endless" feel to it. Lots of descriptive little story elements. I am digging it.
From someone who has sunk over 300 hours into Stellaris, it has a verrrry different feel to it. It seems more laid back pace-wise, and the economic and political aspects to it seem much much more detailed.
My Sophons are some crazy little mad scientists.
I haven't checked to see whether final release went live yet but I am hoping a lot of the placeholder objects have been tidied up. The quests can be really buggy in the Early Access so I hope these issues have also been addressed.
Since I commented in the space and strategy thread, I've had the opportunity to play a few more factions. But one thing remains constant - production and dust strategies seemingly outperform influence and military conquest; Sophons may be overpowered with their faction research advantage which essentially allows them to aggressively deploy production and dust strategies quicker than other factions.
Still, there's a lot of gaming to be had in ES2 and it's got a much quicker playthrough cycle than Stellaris. I still recommend it even in Early Access release and will update the thread with more comments once I've had a solid run on the final release.
Oh, and for those who hoped space or ground battle was improved - as a core gameplay mechanic they haven't really gotten much better but the space battles sure look pretty!
I haven't checked to see whether final release went live yet....
It has.
Also a huge launch-day patch evidently (if you have been playing pre-release)

I've played a bunch. Two questions, how do you get more heroes? Does new research unlock that? And is there a marketplace screen where you can do stuff? I can't seem to find it and I am pretty sure I researched the tech.
