Prey Coffee Cup-all

Was this on PC, gains?

PS4. I heard that there's a patch to controls in the final build, but I haven't heard anything about the music.

I don't think any patching is going to fix my confusion over stealth v. blasting though.

According to a quick google search, it does look like the dev team is going to take a look at fixing the music for the release version. First google source - here.

The thing is, I absolutely love the music. I just wish it wasn't so loud.

edit: just wanted to put this out there, the soundtrack by Mick Gordon is on Spotify/iTunes - Gamestop article

Still trying to decide so I've watched a few Let's Plays of the game online. Some seem to have the audio bug fixed?

I'm also unnecessarily pleased with myself in that I found a path into the Security room that all these people have just walked by!

I saw something on the Prey reddit about a patch that is supposed to address the audio. I'm waiting on reviews, for sure, but I think they are addressing my main concerns.

I just grabbed this for $35.14 from cdkeys.com. It's preloading now on Steam. (It's $36.99, but if you "like" their facebook page you get a coupon for 5% off your order.) So, even if you don't want to mess with the facebook nonsense $36.99 is about the cheapest I've seen out there.

Obligatory warning that CDKeys is a grey market site and is shady as hell.

2 hour in impressions - I went into this COMPLETELY blind minus the first couple of trailers, so I really wasn't sure what to expect but so far, yeah, tote's Bioshock/Dishonored/Deus Ex which is cool! I love that it's basically just dropped me in one big station with backtracking and everything. Plus points for letting me pick a lady Wu - even if she is (mostly) a silent protagonist.

My only hesitation so far is that I haven't really been enjoying fighting the Mimics. It's gotten a bit better now I have a proper weapon (shotgun) but that initial period with just the wrench and the glue gun thing was a bit annoying. I expect it'll get better once I get some more weapons / upgrade some skills a bit.

I'm watching another Let's Play and practically screaming at the screen. "No! You're supposed to put that in the recycler! Look up, doofus! There's a power-up right there! Haven't you even heard of Bioshock?"

The upshot is that I think I'm going to get it. It sounds like I really want to be playing this. Maybe I should stream it so that people get the chance to bawl me out for not using the stupid Gloo to climb over that stupid wall?

For those playing on PC, how has the performance been for you so far? I noticed nvidia released a new driver that mentions Prey-specific performance improvements.

I caved. Comparisons to a Bioshock/Dishonored/System Shock mashup were too much for me.

Plus 20% off at GMG was pretty tasty.

No problems here, running slightly above average settings on a 2 year old laptop - runs better than dishonored 2 did, and I've not updated my drivers in a while.

Setting is definitely up there with the original Bioshock IMHO. One of the better intros I have experienced.

edit: this will sound silly, but when you look down you actually see your feet, which is something I appreciate

Yep I just started it and so far it's been running well! I was a little disgusted that it suggested low for my rig, so I set it to high and dropped the anti-aliasing to FXAA and I'm getting around 50 FPS.

Granted, that's just in my apartment - I've already spent twenty minutes in there and I haven't yet put on the suit. I'm trying to see if I can break the jammed door with a chair or other heavy object to go outside and enjoy a bit of a nice breeze before getting into that stuffy-looking uniform. I am afraid that I broke my mug in a fit of pique after my first attempts on the door, and have been eyeing that mug on the balcony.

I've also found some nice reading material and a board game, so things are looking good so far! I appreciate getting a chance to wander around and enjoy the room without explosions, people yelling at me over explosions, or people yelling at me to hurry up and [do a thing].

Yay, sinks and lights and things to open and close and turn on and off! I'm enjoying all of the interaction. Plus, it seems like most things can be picked up, relocated, thrown, dropped, which is great.

I was surprised by the feet thing too! I I kept wondering why my feet were so small, and then I remember I picked the girl in the character select screen. I wonder if there's a size difference between the male and female feet?

Also, on a random note, the game seems to handle Alt-Tab without freaking out (at least on Win10/64), which is always appreciated. Another thing I appreciate is detailed collision on some of the models. I like being able to fill the toilet with toilet paper like it's a proper container!

Rating 5 of 5. Would flush again.

I basically run around with the goo gun out all the time, prepared to shoot any mimic.

I'm surprised there isn't more chatter about this one around here. I am REALLY liking it so far. I've got the difficulty cranked up to Nightmare and I'm really taking my time, planning things out, cheesing the health system by using all the water fountains and sinks in the bathroom areas to heal up, and just generally playing it like it's System Shock 2.

My only complaint is that the enemies aren't varied enough or particularly interesting so far (besides the Mimic). We'll see how that develops, though. I have a hunch that there is a lot more for me to see.

This game is hard, but in a good way.

Spacewalks are fun!

You can see it in the arms and hands too. I saw it right away when reaching to turn off the alarm clock. Morgan has a beefy arm compared to, uh, Morgan.

Did they patch the controls on PS4? Reading mixed things on the interwebs

I did not know drinking at a water fountain can heal you up!

I'm really enjoying this so far - I love the fact you can carry around the turrets and deploy them where you want. turret + GLOO gun + Phantom = dead phantom at half the price! Assuming you.. time it correctly of course. I'm playing on Hard and death comes swiftly, which is the way I like it (uh huh, uh huh).

For those on PC, RPS has a mini-guide on how to change your FOV and disable the intro videos.

Yeah this is a good one. Definitely a "Bioshock in space" vibe. Good stuff!

Playing on hard is, well, hard. About 2 hrs in and just made it to my office.

Ohhh yeahhh, looks like someone came prepared to party:

I was pleased that it's possible to kill yourself in the beginning by jumping into the helicopter's main rotor - it took a few jumps but finally I managed to slam my cranium into the rotor blades and bought the farm.

I'm also happy about the way the crafting/recycling works - it's very satisfying to see the product slide down/fall down out of the production chute and have to grab it, instead of it being auto-magically added to your inventory.

As I wrote elsewhere - I REALLY like the game, and its an incredible homage to System Shock 2, in almost every way, but man - they need to fix that audio. The intro is excessively loud (Bethesda and Arkane Logos), but whenever someone is talking to me in-game, its almost not perceptible.

I'm going to put the game on hold, and start over, this time on Hard, when they fix the audio.

Yeah the music is really over the top. I mean it's GREAT stuff, don't get me wrong, but it's WAAAAAY too overbearing half the time.

Otherwise, aside from still not 100% on board with the combat, I'm having a blast! Really scratching the System Shock itch as mentioned above.

Just got the shotgun, and I have never been so happy to get a shotgun in a game. The 9mm pistol feels like it is tickling the Typhon to death.

I feel a powerful urge to build a snow fort with the GLOO gun ...

I played a few hours last night, and really like Prey so far. Like people already said, it takes elements from several great games like Bioshock, System Shock 2, Deus Ex, Dead Space, etc., but adds its own twist. I like the setting and story so far.

I'm not great at the combat, but it's fun. Those mimics are really fast, and this game is teaching me to fear inanimate objects. I walk around with my wrench smashing every cup and smashable object I see, just in case... And they still make me jump on occasion.

The game runs really well on my PC. I am having one strange problem though that can be frustrating. Every so often, I'll go to click on something, attacking, smashing glass, etc., and the game will instantly switch to my desktop. The game doesn't crash, it just switches to my Steam window. I can instantly Alt Tab back. Usually when this happens, it happens 2 or 3 times in a row before it will let me use the left mouse button in the game again. I'm running in full-screen mode, so it shouldn't be clicking outside of a window, forcing focus to switch. Anyone else have a similar problem with the PC version?

I really like the game as well. Playing on PC and its running at 120fps on the GTX 1080 on max settings. It has a Mirror's Edge like art style. The mimics definitely make you jump but not at an Outlast or other horror level. Which I like because I'm a chicken.
