Nintendo Multiplayer Thread

Between the Wii U and 3DS, there are some great online games on Nintendo's platforms. But as just about anyone can tell you, their systems for matching up with friends usually aren't very good, requiring a bit of extra coordination. Is there any interest in setting up a regular night to play some Nintendo games online? Maybe use Curse or something like that for voice chat?

This might be a good way to get players for things like Mario Kart 8 but also for less common games like Tri Force Heroes. What do you all think?

Mario Kart 8 room for Extra Life, Nov. 4: 6825-1230-1138

I'd do a Mario Kart 8 night again if we had voice chat. I think I heard recently that there's a Curse client for Android now?

+1 for MK8.

There is a Curse client for Android. I still prefer Discord, but the Curse client recently got an update that made it much better so I'll go with either.

I'd be in favor of this. I think Zoso got Cathadan or someone to setup a Nintendo channel on the Curse instance.

The one issue I foresee though is that we are a small subset of the community and I think MK8 is the only Nintendo game that's universally liked here. Smash, Splatoon and others have significantly less appeal which might make coordinating a lot harder

Smash doesn't necessarily require as many people as Mario Kart would, though. Trying to organize Splatoon turned into Me vs. Clock and Tomayto, I believe, which was a bit of a disaster. But I'd be down for getting something together.

My buddy and I are returning to Thursday Night Destiny, but he's out of town next week so I'm down for playing something like Smash or Mario Kart then. Plus, I know my buddy loves any excuse to Smash, so I could probably get him in as a +1.

There is a NintendoCurse channel! And yes, I am definitely down but my ability to participate in anything is sporadic. Gamepad ups chance to play about 100%, though.

I'm in for MK8 and Smash for sure. I've been wanting to pick up Triforce Heroes and this would help convince me, as well as Federation Force apparently having really good co-op!

I have barely played Splatoon, but I'd be open to giving it a shot.

I'm tempted to code up a nice looking table containing multiplayer games and folks who own them. If I could put such a thing together, would you drop it in the first post, Clock?

Google Sheets is your friend here

MK8, Splatoon, Smash (barely touched it). I'm game for any of them.

Hopefully I can join in from time to time

Technically yes, but I'm in the mood to code something since my job is being a jerk right now and having it right there in the OP and visible is much nicer.

Of course, then you run into the problem of "Hey Clock, can you add me under game X?"

My MP gaming time is basically non-existent any more, but I'd try to make something work for a MK8, Splatoon, or Smash night

I need so much Monster Hunter help, it's not funny.

We've been using Curse and the GWJ room for Monster Hunter with much success. Even if not everyone wants to talk, the text chat helps between hunts and if you just want to listen to others talk during that's fine too.

My geographical location generally puts me out of the running. Stoopid timezones. I have Mario Kart 8, and Splatoon. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, too.

I don't own a 3DS even though I've started a games library. Federation Force could force my hand sooner rather than later.

So I'd like to do a test stream of the WiiU to prep for Extra Life this November. The best night that would work for me is September 10th. It'd be an opportunity for me to see if I can get Curse and El Gato to cooperate with Twitch together as well as see if El Gato does a better job of keeping a stable connection than my Roxio.

I'm good with either Smash, Splatoon, or Mario Kart, and I'd like to also post this on the front page as an event. So gauging interest and for those that would or would not mind their voice being caught on a stream.

I should be able to take part in that, Cesarano!

As always, willing to participate but I won't be on voice.

If I'm free that night I'd be happy to do it, but I'm not sure what my plans will be. Saturdays are my worst day.

FWIW, in my WoW days I ran across lots of people, including in the GWJ guild, who were willing to listen to voice chat but preferred not to talk.

I'm interested, although pretty time-constrained!

Smash would be a pretty good choice for me since it's easy to jump in and out if needed, with the 2-minute matches.

I'd be interested although I have no idea what my schedule will be like that weekend.

What is it with us Nintendo people and our schedules?

*cough*

I think it's also that the Nintendo people are also a subset that are much used to single-player gaming or multiplayer gaming with fellow human beings in the present physical space. Contrast this to people whose game nights are "Sign onto multiplayer game. If friends are online, play with them. Else, play with pubbies and complain about how toxic the online community is on the Internet."

So for us, multiplayer game time is a special time, because our regular game time is all solo experiences.

That's my theory, anyway.

Things like kids and social/familial obligations don't help, either.

Kids and social/familial obligations are what limit my availability, for the most part.

I would interested in playing. I have MK8, Smash, and Splatoon, of which I've played far too little on my own so I'd love a communal excuse to keep playing them.

My availability is always sketchy, but I'd at least like to throw my hat in the ring for Mario Kart 8, Smash, Splatoon, and Hilarious Newbie Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.

Alright, so I think Mario Kart 8 on September 10th would be best. Now is just the time of day/night. Would 8 or 9pm EST work for folks? I know bed time for kiddies is going to throw a wrench in that depending on time zone.

In addition: for anyone with Federation Force, I already posted in the 3DS thread, but figured I'd note here that I'm free tomorrow night and Thursday night for co-op if anyone would like to give it a whirl.

I'm on PST so that throws it right around dinner for myself. However, I think we're out of town starting on the 10th, so that doesn't even matter for me this night.
