RUIn Gaming - need testers for online scheduling site

Hey folks,
We're a tiny startup trying to solve the problem of scheduling game time with your friends (and groups). For example:
I want to play Left 4 Dead 2 on PC at 9pm EST tonight; Who can join? And your friends/groups would see that, as could possibly the general public who had L4D2 as one of their preferred games.

Anyhoo, we're at the point where we have a rough alpha of the site and I need some feedback as to whether you think it's something you would use. It's still buggy. There are still lots of features missing. So this is not for those who need spit and polish. I'm just interested in whether you get what we're trying to do and if it's valuable. Naturally, I'd love to get any suggestions and feedback. Feel free to post or PM me any questions or feedback.

Forgot to mention the site only supports syncing with steam games at the moment. If you logon with your steam credentials (we don't store them and we don't want to store them), it'll sync your games list (assuming your steam profile isn't set to private).

Signed up. Will see how much use I can get out of it. I'm a primarily console player so even if I connect my Steam info most of the games I'll want to schedule will be on PS4, 3DS or WiiU.

That's fine. We're not there yet with integration. (We're just 2-3 guys at the moment)

I'm mostly interested in your thoughts of the usefulness of the site, where we can improve, and if this is something you could see yourself using down the line.

I think I killed your website... I tired linking my Steam account and this happened. http://prntscr.com/ca3bv1

I'm out of action at the moment, just tagging this thread in case I get a computer soon.

I really love this idea and am thoroughly impressed with the app. I'm going to try to use it with my local friend group but am looking forward to meeting out GWJ members through it!

Alas - another gamer who's primarily console (Xbox) but very much interested in this idea. I'd love to have ways to more quickly connect with the GWJ community - know it's also possible with some effort through game specific threads but that's been enough of a barrier I've not gotten over it yet.

Will wait / watch / participate as I can!

Jumped in to check it out.

Is there a way to submit bugs or feature suggestions? I can't seem to delete a room after I created it. And I want to be able to create events not tied to anything digital. Just free form named rooms. Ex: Going to the arcade.

Bug 1: kazar linked a room/event that he created on the BoardGame Night thread. I clicked it without ever having been to the site and it just loaded an empty screen. Once I signed up it worked fine. So I guess if you try to go to a page while you're not signed in it should redirect to the main site.

Bug 2: When I clicked Join on kazar's event, the page didn't refresh with my new info. I had to manually refresh to see that I successfully joined.

Yeah, I've fixed both those issues in the latest version but was going to wait till next week to deploy. Although that was sort of arbitrary so I'll try and do so today. If you do find a bug, just email me at:

[email protected]

for now

So I've pushed a bunch of changes up to the site. You can now:
- add non-listed games to the platforms/games section and it'll email me for a review
- invite friends to a room you've created and it'll email them
- view a room even if you don't have an account

I'm having issues with IE based browsers caching results it shouldn't so stick to Chrome for now. There's still a number of bugs I'm working through but I'm slowing chewing through them.

Can't sign in anymore.

Took a little while to sync my steam games, but it did come up after a while. I was impressed that it also imported friends that are also on the site (I can see mrtomatohead in my friends list). I created a group for our Elite:Dangerous pilots and I'm going to post this over on our thread... getting all of us together can be really difficult, and I'll also add a link to the thread for bugs/comments/suggestions. There aren't many active guys, so it shouldn't be much stress on the site.

I like it. It's nice, it's simple, it switches tabs quickly. Would it be possible to add a way to switch the time to military? I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I haven't dealt with AM/PM for around 20 years, and I know I'll mix up something like 7AM vs 7PM, whereas I won't mix up 0700 vs 1900.

Also, there's a way to add availability, and I like that it highlights those times, but there's no way to remove it that I can find. Edit: Added another availability and the first one popped up with an X in the corner, so I was able to remove it after that. They seem to disappear when you move away from the tab.

Oh, that's going to be handy. I'll have to try it out soon.

We have some good devotees to Nintendo, and something like this stands to benefit the ecosystems NIntendo has going in that finding people and grouping up is a bit harder on their systems. In that vein, I'm going to suggest the Wii U standbys via suggestions. Those games will be Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Hmmm... try signing out and then back in. We've occasionally had this issue crop up occasionally and it's next on my list.

- I'll put 24hr clock as a feature. But it might be a month before I get to that (bugs come first).
- Being able to remove specific availability from the dashboard is sooner on the list. (There is an availability section that shows ALL the ones you have)

Added them. When you first request a game, it creates a temp game that gets filtered out of the main list. But it gets added to your library so you can create a room with that game.

I do it this way so people can't create clearly inappropriate games.

That seemed to have worked. Thanks.

A few suggestions. I don't like being tied down to a specific game when creating an event. I am trying to do an event for playing some tabletop games, but the app we use will vary based on what game we actually decide to play. For now I locked it into the TableTop Simulator, but it would be better if I can control the name.

So, that should just be
game: TableTop Simulator
gameMode: we'll figure that out?

I'm commenting from the sidelines because I still am computerless, but how does it handle different time zones? Do I get to schedule an event in my own time, and then be able to see what time that is for American people? As someone living in Australia, the whole different timezones thing is important to me and I just want to make sure you're thinking about it.

Also, I never got the 'are you in' part of the name until I heard it on the podcast. Maybe a space in the name or a lowercase i would help. Just a suggestion.

Keep up the good work!

But sometimes the game itself is unknown. Ex: We could be using Tabletopia, or some other way to play. I guess it doesn't matter too much. Just suggesting options that people might want/look for.

All dates are currently stored in GMT so your browser should interpret the date correctly. If you choose a different timezone than what your desktop thinks it is, there's an issue (though I'm fixing that one shortly).

As for the "aRe yoU In -> RUIn" part. I just figured it was a cool double meaning. Plus it's impossible to find a good domain name these days. "Ruin" is also easier to spell than "Areyouin".

Yeah, I could make the game field editable in the future. I just didn't want people to feel duped into joining one type of game, then get it switched to another that they didn't have.

I've pushed up a bunch of changes which should make the site a good deal more stable.

Username: "Vypre" (Linked from Steam)

I don't see a bug report function, so I'll just add mine .02 here (I'm a professional software test engineer, btw).

1.) No bug report function.
2.) Firefox 48.0.2 - Login page (http://www.ruingaming.io/#/)- all 'Sign In / Sign Up' buttons do not function.
3.) IE 11.545.10586.0 - Login page (http://www.ruingaming.io/#/) does not render.
4.) "Welcome!" banner does not close upon logout.
5.) Updating Steam display name does not sync to application, even after logout.
6.) If I login through Steam (and Steam's API supports it), it would be nice if my Steam friend's populated the Friend's list. At least, if they're not registered application users, show their name and provide an "Invite" option.
7.) Edge 25.10586.0.0 (Only browser I could get to login - didn't try Chrome) - 'All Games' drop down is non-functional.

Other notes/questions:

1.) I'm assuming the options under the "Platforms" panel are currently in work?
2.) How are you implementing the groups? I'm assuming this is local to the app and not related to Steam. If not the latter, it would be nice if there was a way to invite and/or link to the Steam groups.
3.) Availability panel - drop-down menu selections for time are very slow. This is especially cumbersome when trying to select from the minutes column.
4. Availability panel - would like to be able to set duration in increments smaller than 30 mins (15? 10? 5?)
5.) Would like to be able to see my planned 'availability' on the main calendar.

Cheers,

Drew

Finally got an event to take. Previously the save button would just not respond.

One thing I'm noticing is that there is no way to back out of viewing an event short of clicking outside the pop up window. "Leave" will unschedule an event that I have created with no other people in it.

Also, it seems the player count is limited to 8, meaning that larger games are restricted, including Mario Kart 8, which supports 12.

Thanks! Chrome is the browser I'm using but I know about the Firefox issue. Edge seems to cache a lot of the data so I need to refresh or find a way to change the call signatures.

You logged out right on the Welcome banner? It drove you to do that? ;P
After the Steam sync, I know who your friends but I can only add those that are already on the site. Inviting others requires a whole different set of APIs since we're talking about Steam chat/ Steam Sessions just to send an invite. That feature is on the map though.

aside from Steam, yeah, they're still being worked on.
2.) How are you implementing the groups? I'm assuming this is local to the app and not related to Steam. If not the latter, it would be nice if there was a way to invite and/or link to the Steam groups.
I had that feature but because I can't add a user to the group unless they're already on the site, I commented out that piece until I could figure a better use for it
3.) Availability panel - drop-down menu selections for time are very slow. This is especially cumbersome when trying to select from the minutes column.
This section needs a little work, admittedly. I figured most users would add their availability by clicking on the time in the main dashboard.
4. Availability panel - would like to be able to set duration in increments smaller than 30 mins (15? 10? 5?)
It takes 5 minutes just to have everyone join a multiplayer match. 30 minute increments was a conscious decision that makes sense to me unless the games you're playing are very different than what I'm picturing.
5.) Would like to be able to see my planned 'availability' on the main calendar.
You can see specific availability, just not general availability (at the moment)

Cheers,

Drew
