Painting Miniatures

Looking good, particularly like the trumpeter!

Weird. I was sure I posted here, and now I'm worried I accidentally posted in the wrong thread and can't find it!

Anyway, I'm VERY excited for the new Warhammer 10th edition box. So excited, in fact, that I started painting Space Marines. I've always been rubbish at edge-highlighting, but really took my time to practice and I think I'm getting better with it. I've always thought Space Marines were a bit boring, but the new models, playing Boltgun, and putting my own spin on them has made me enjoy the blue boys a lot more.

I'm going for a mix of 90s 'Eavy Metal style (high saturation, lots of edge highlighting) with the more modern design of the game now. Honestly, I just wanted colouful minis!

Thought I'd also post a comparison of the typical Ultramarine colours (left) to the ones I'm using (right).

You posted in the Stellaris thread, just FYI. Nice paint job!

LOL woops. I'll go and fix that. Thanks for letting me know!

I've never gotten into painting miniatures. I've built Gunpla/Macross stuff and used decals but that's about it.

For some reason, perhaps the Henry Cavill Warhammer impact, from time to time I get pushed painting clips on TikTok.

Do you use an airbrush? I always wonder if in practice people do the black layer, then layering on coats of thinned paints etc.

No airbrush, though it's quite common for people to use one.

I start with a white base coat most of the time since I prefer brighter colours. It's just multiple thin layers on top of that!

I bought a cheap rotating stand to display my minis, thought I'd share some here

And a Rainbow Warrior which I painted before it arrived

That's weirdly mesmerizing. Also damn good paint jobs!

Little bit of hobby progress. Yellow is pretty difficult to paint, so I've had a few attempts...But only just now feeling like I've got a decent technique down for it. Bottom pic is my first try about 1.5 years ago compared to my latest

I somehow lost this thread from my favorites. That paint job is amazing, Uni. Kudos.

I follow some Gaslands stuff. I’ve played some and painted a few cars (sh*t paint jobs). I just saw this video. Amazing details. Watch it at fast speed since it’s so long.

I haven't picked up the paint brushes since we moved house last October but I thought I'd share my favourite paintjob from last year. An Australian $2 coin is slightly smaller than a nickel in circumference.

Holy crap, Prozac, that is amazing!

After my closest friend died in 2020, I gave away all our Warmachines/Hordes miniatures and painting stuff because I knew it would all just collect dust here and I know he would have preferred, like me, to see a group getting enjoyment gaming with our stuff instead.

I figured I'd never have any interest in painting miniatures again, but every so often I run across something like this or some random video that puts a bit of the itch. I'm toying with the idea of picking up some new painting supplies and then, rather than getting into a particular game that I'm not going to play anyway, perhaps just pick up a random miniature or model here or there that appeals to me and just paint it for the pure enjoyment of it. Only thing is just the expense of putting together a solid base of painting supplies & brushes again, along with needing to set up a proper workspace.

I'm sure I'll do it, just a question of when.

Prozac, that is absolutely amazing! Love the detail on the newspapers.

Thanks, Now I just have to drum up a combination of the time, motivation, steady hands and not tired eyes to get through the hundreds of Marvel Zombies and He-Man minis I have on my to do pile

It was my Nan's birthday today. She passed 5 years ago and I always paint a mini on her birthday. He-Man was a big thing for me and her so I gave ram Man some love today as he was one of my favourite MotU toys as a kid. First painting I've done in over 6 months.

I recently picked up some starter paints and minis for a calm evening hobby. I hadn't really painted since the 90s, but there are some amazing and encouraging YouTubers out there now. My first attempt is done for now and I'm pretty pleased.
