Join the GamersWithJobs Extra Life Team for 2016!

Civ VI will be out by then. Anyone in?

Hello! I am brand new to the community but would love to participate. This would be my first time doing something like this but would love to give back and have fun doing it!

So for the 5th, I'm tentatively wanting to claim the 7pm pst onwards time for the Rocket League play, as it's currently during bottle rockets times, so it's kind of an easy run?

Is that claiming too much time, I don't know?

That is completely fine, Amoebic! Let me know if you want a front-page post to go up for that.

I'm currently setting up the 10th of September to be Mario Kart 8 night for WiiU players. I'll provide links here when I have some spare time today, as well as updating the front page post with all the new team members.

I'll also update the front page with our community nights. So Amoebic, Bottle Rockets is a Monday night thing if it's starting on the 5th?

Welcome to the community! Thanks for not only signing up for Extra Life, but with GWJ in general! Hopefully you can find a new home away from home.

oh I meant like Nov 5, the saturday "play day." I was thinking of attempting an all day thing in which part of that day would be bottle rockets starting 7pm?

Clearly I still don't quite "get" it, haha!

Hey GWJers! I have listened to the conference call every week for the last 3 years, and decided to join both GWJ and the Extra Life team after listening to this weeks podcast and the thread of the week. I will be happy to join anyone in Overwatch, Diablo III, or I can go solo and play some classic games (emulated, as I don't have time, money, or space to start a retro collection) I can even help with tech support. I'm getting familiar with OBS streaming on Twitch and YouTube Gaming. So, if anyone has questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Tom aka Groove

Groove, welcome to the GWJ community! This is a great event to jump in with!

I'm pretty new to streaming and decided that I'm going to use this great cause to keep myself sticking to it. if anyone has any tips they are much appreciated. I would enjoy doing a multistream with people also. We could even use ruingaming.io to help schedule.

I'm sorely tempted to take the 5th off and just haunt everyone's multiplayer games this year.

I will get right on top of this as soon as I have settled accounts due to an incident. Whee!

Oh! No, that sounds perfect, actually. Especially since 10pm is when I run the risk of starting to get tired. Last year Destiny's Raid helped me last until at least 2am, so something like Bottle Rockets on PS4 at 10pmET would likely be just what the doctor ordered.

I just need to get around to actually buying the game...

I'm in!

If anyone is going to group-game on the PS4, let me know! I'm down to compete for the stream.

Our Rocket League games are private GWJ vs GWJ, so ps4 cross-platform compatible. However most of the group is on curse voice if you want to get into the voice chat.

Hrmm... I'll have to conduct a test in one of the regular Bottle Rockets nights. I think I can get El Gato to pull in audio from Curse or another outside source, and I had figured out how to grab Skype for Roxio and X-Split streams back in '14. So I should be able to do it again.

That seems overly complicated for that particular stretch of the play. I use shadowplay (or obs...although I find the quality of shadowplay to be superior) and it just captures everyone's sound from Curse as well as my own microphone and broadcast it to twitch. I can also set it up to record a local video with all audio as well if posting youtube videos was a goal.

The curse iOS program is solid on mobile if I recall correctly, so you can participate on console with that as part of the chat. Unfortunately the android curse voice client is still in the works.

Isn't there a way multiple people can broadcast from the GWJ twitch account as authorized broadcasters? We should do that.

I'm going to be testing other software myself for the PC end of things, as I do think there are more elegant solutions at this point (though the question is always "for free").

Note that I've updated the original post, but if you're name/link does not appear in the list of participants in the first page of this thread, it is because I have no clue who you are because I'm a terrible terrible person. So please let me know whose account is whose and I'll get you linked up in the OP.

Now then, for those with a Nintendo WiiU, we will be doing Mario Kart 8 on Saturday, September 10th, 9pm ET/6pm PT. The room code will be 6910-0601-5376.

I'm sorry I've been quiet. Had to get myself settled after an accident, but I should be good to go now.

Tagging this thread as I'm not sure I'm up for hosting streaming per-se, but as I'm in a way different time zone I might be able to inject some energy into the later slots for an hour or two as an accompanying player in something like Overwatch or if something like Table Topia is on the cards I'd even been keen to play boardgames on stream or even run some form of hidden traitor game with a group (Werewolf or something of the like, is that a thing you can do in Tabletopia?), if that kind of thing can be pulled off played online.
I dunno.
Just an idea, keen to be used.

Tabletopia doesn't appear to have Werewolf at the moment. Not sure if/when they will.

Won't be around for the MarioKart test on the 10th.

Have you shared that on the Extra Life forums?

As for me, I'm working on prepping my Elgato, but I seem to be running into issues. I'm using the HD60 to be specific, which only accepts HDMI ports. That's no problem. The problem is it seems to have issues capturing footage in some fashion or another. I have been messing with the settings a bit, but video will crumple up, run poorly, or be out of sync with the audio. I have a suspicion this is because it doesn't seem capable of using the dedicated AMD card in my laptop for capture and only has options via the onboard Intel card. I'm going to try it on my desktop if things aren't working out by Wednesday and see what happens.

Sadly, we won't be. I'll be in Utica wondering what the everloving f*** there is to do in Utica.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to drop in with a note on how we'll be handling the GWJ Twitch channel on Game Day (assuming we have the all-clear from the Game King and his royal court). Rather than streaming directly to the GWJ Twitch channel, I (and probably Amoebic) will be changing which Twitch channel is being hosted by GWJ. This means if you're running Titanfall 2 with community members around 3pm ET, you'd just stream to your own Twitch and either Amoebic or I would set the GWJ Twitch channel to host.

Part of trying to schedule events for Game Day is so we can have a solid schedule of who is being hosted by GWJ at what time. We can always update it on the fly, but I think it helps to have an idea of what we'll be doing ahead of time. For example, we can set GWJ to host Reaper81's WoW Raid in the early evening, and then switch over to Amoebic's channel to host Bottle Rockets at 10pm ET.

So feel free to toss ideas out, as this could also help you with your own gaming schedule (for example, I might try a post-Bottle Rockets Destiny raid since doing one for 6 hours last year helped keep me awake).

Getting some last minute prepwork taken care of. I'll be joining Curse momentarily.

GWJ Twitch channel

If I cannot get hosting to work, check my Twitch channel.

I'm with you in the Rainbow Road of my mind. Have fun, guys!

Whelp, I learned that even though I was able to stream perfectly fine on wireless in the afternoon, I was unable to stream at all during prime time connected to ethernet cable.

I have a couple theories. The first is my roommate was home and gaming on his Xbox One, which could have absorbed bandwidth. The second is that Curse could have devoured bandwidth, but even streaming without Curse on yielded no results. The third could simply be that my laptop is not capable of handling streaming.

Further tests are required. I'm just disappointed it happened on a community game night.

Yeah streaming wasn't possible while playing on my old desktop rig. Even now after inheriting my husband's old gaming setup I've gotta crank down some settings. Some streamers have a separate streaming computer from the gaming computer so it won't bog down.

I have obtained Rocket League and will be available to run a test next weekend of Bottle Rockets.

Whee!
