The spousal unit is going to have to choose between Scorpion or Quantico. I can only handle so much stupid and since the entire house has chosen Arrow over The Flash (though my oldest son still watches it with me) something has gotta give.

I was kinda hoping Quantico would get cancelled and Priyanka Chopra would get a worthwhile gig.

Thanks to this thread I'm aware that America's Funniest Home Videos still somehow exists despite YouTube.

If I were to begin watching any of those channels for television, it would actually be Fox. I'm kind of surprised at how many interesting ideas they've had of late.

Just don't get attached.

I assume Big Bang is another Monday until football is over then back to Thurs thing. Pretty annoying, CBS.

Great choice of banner graphic! I'm super excited for (as I said in the previous thread) Designated Survivor, as well as Making History (time travel back to 1776 for laughs!) and Timeless (time travel back to 1939 for serious!).

Oh man, I told Sigsbee I was done with Quantico a long time ago. Also told her I couldn't take any more Blindspot. Good luck!

Looking like a fairly weak fall season for us so far. Could be a good thing, maybe will take two courses instead of one during that semester.

Also good news for those of us trying to figure out how to get back into WOW and have time to try out Civ VI and other new games.

Oh my god Preacher starts today.

Spoiler:

I'm going to go buy some meat and have sex with it in celebration.

hmmm my odd joke might be spoiler because it happen in the one Preacher collection I read.

Shows Canceled
– Wicked City

Did anyone even watch this?

Shows Canceled
– CSI: Cyber

This is my surprised face. Now we're stuck without a CSI show!

Son of Zorn

This looks like possibly the biggest flop of the season.

Shows Canceled
– Minority Report

I'd actually forgotten about this show.

Shows Premiering Midseason
– The Blacklist: Redemption

What exactly is this? Does anyone know?

Shows Canceled
– Undateable

Not surprised. Their move to a live format was weird but interesting. Unfortunately, most of the laughs were then coming from missteps and meta/4th wall stuff.

– You, Me and the Apocalypse

F*ck! This was a show that deserved to go on. Grr, this bothers me even more than Agent Carter.

Fox has a rep for mercilessly canceling interesting shows too quickly, but keep in mind that it can't do so without creating the interesting shows in the first place.

We're still watching all 3 of those. If I was forced to pick 1, it'd be Blindspot because at least it's going somewhere interesting. I do wish Jane would develop a real personality though.

Blacklist: Redemption

It is a spin-off that used the second to the last episode of this season as a backdoor pilot.

Spoiler:

Tom Keen is going to work for his mother's private espionage/mercenary agency while she has no idea that he is the son she believed she lost when he was 3.

It looks interesting but I feel like it needs some crossover to work. It would be weird to have Tom absent entirely from The Blacklist and it would be weird to see him every week without callbacks to his family.

Bump for new shows premiering soon?

So we were discussing the proliferation of quality horror shows on TV, which I think is a recent phenomenon - recent in that it's been a long time since stuff like The Twilight Zone was popular.

Regarding Outcast - I'm a big comics fan, and I read the first issue of this comic. Kinda painful. I tend to shy away from stuff where families are going through sh*t, similar to how many of us don't enjoy the "kid in trouble" trope in video games.

There are a ton of horror shows I'm interested in, and I usually save them for October or thereabouts. I mentioned that I just started Ash vs Evil Dead, and liked it so far. I'm looking forward to checking out Hemlock Grove and Penny Dreadful.

I hope you like Ice Cream.

I started Evil Dead this week too. I was kind of dreading that it would be bad! Fortunately it's actually funny, most of the time.

Yeah, I was worried it wouldn't live up to the previous stuff. That's a concern I have since a little old thing called Episode I. Fortunately it's been enjoyable, if not spectacular so far.

I thought the 1st season just kept getting better with each episode. So enjoy!

New hero pic for Atlanta, which begins tonight on FX.

Pretty good article on the show up on The Nerdist.

IS ATLANTA DONALD GLOVER’S MELANCHOLY MASTERPIECE?

Many, myself included, had a hard time reconciling the charmingly irreverent comedic actor/writer with this suddenly downtrodden, serious rapper. Was it a concerted marketing ploy to sell records–a dreaded rebranding—after a not-so-great debut album, was this the real Donald, or was there something more complex going on? Atlanta, Glover’s new drama/dark comedy on FX is the best answer to this question I have seen thus far. As a composite of all the different Donald Glovers we’ve watched over the last seven years, Atlanta observes and questions the battery of contradictions that fundamentally comprise identity, especially for those in overlooked or misunderstood communities.

No Amazing Race schedule released yet..bummer.

I have "The Night Of" and "Stranger Things" that I want to dig into this fall/winter so looking forward to those!

Thirded!

Stranger Things for fun. The Night Of for gut-wrenching bleakness. Both are great, but Stranger Things is darn near perfection.

Ultimately, The Night Of's reach was a bit more than its grasp. But just a bit. It's worth watching the eight episodes.

Night Of started out different than most procedurals because of it's focus on a lot of the small things involved in investigating and prosecuting a crime. It was also well done from a visual standpoint, and well acted.

However, toward the end, lots of characters make decisions that don't really make any sense to me and either loses those early details, or over emphasizes some other things. So I didn't think it totally stuck the landing. I still enjoyed it, but it fades a bit.

The main thing I took from The Night Of, is that there really are no bad guys and good guys. There is no conspiracy to convict, no real rush to judgment. There are people doing their jobs with what is given to them. There are also people who act in very human ways.

I agree that in the end, there are some real questionable actions that I don't feel like the show earned the trust of the viewer to believe in. Honestly, I felt like the second to last episode was awful i this regard. I tm ade me really question the entire project. But overall, it doesn't really affect the human drama that unfolds for the main characters. And there are several extremely outstanding performances.

In some ways, I feel like they did stick the landing. It was just a bumpy descent, but I think that, like a great novel, you could spend a lot of time talking about the characters and their journey, and where they are when the show ends tells a big part of the story.

Also, I have to mention that the actor that played Naz's father was in a fantastic Iranian film, A Separation. The tone was actually similar to The Night Of, but it's a completely different story. In this case, he and his wife are getting a divorce, and what all goes into such a thin in Iran. And like this show, there are many twists and turns that break your heart, as people react to only having part of the story.

If interested, it is available free on Youtube. Here is the trailer:

Man, I was excited to see what HBO might do with Westward, but I'm not sure I was expecting this. I mean that in a good way, as this looks outstanding. JJ Abrams and Jonathan Nolan are creators, so this is must see, for me.

A new trailer for Westworld.

Daaaaang... I had only heard bits and pieces of the concept. Now I'm trying to figure out how to justify paying for HBO for just two shows (GoT)...

Watched the season premiere of Blindspot tonight, and well, it's been successfully reset. This season is set up to be basically a retelling of the first season. I'm not sure that bothers me, as it did what it did pretty well. I have no problem going to back to tattoo of the week with surprisingly similar story and side stories.

Wait what? Did a TV show reboot its self after only one season?
