Yeah, I think Midir is the hardest boss in the entire game.
A crossbow is a great thing to have against the Nameless King if you don't feel like learning the roll patterns.
I have a +10 longbow which I used pretty frequently throughout the campaign for sniping/drawing/separating, but obviously that's not a crossbow. I'm able to get through the first phase of the battle fairly regularly, but there's just no time for me to recover from his onslaught during the second phase.
Anyway, after beating the game, I went back and killed the Demon Prince in DLC2, then proceeded onward through the ghostly gauntlet, past the next bonfire, then decided that the area was kind of uninteresting, and NG+'d for a bit. I think I'm going to pop over to Sekiro. Thanks everyone for indulging my overly-frequent updates.
Yeah the crossbow lets you sit far away from him in phase 2 and just plunk him over and over again. You still have to dodge or block a few things, but it's a lot easier than fighting in close. A bow is not quite as good because it's harder to use a shield with it.
Going from DS3 to Sekiro let me warn you that everything you know and trust will change just enough. The good old fromsoft trolling.
Just finished Dark Souls 3.
Such a good game.
Now what to play? Ideally something very different.
Maybe Path of Exile or Diablo 3.
Does anyone ever really finish Dark Souls?
Congrats. Good luck finding a new game! Always the hardest part for me, it's like completing a book series and finding something new.

So the REAL Dark Souls is “what do you play after Dark Souls”?
Maybe Path of Exile or Diablo 3.
I think I want to play this same game, but from a different angle.

I am also looking at this possibility. I played this playthrough as a primarily dex-based warrior. It is somewhat interesting to try a strength-based, smash the f*ck out of things warrior.
I'm tempted to head back into this game. Solaire is calling me.
Praise the Sun!! Usher in the Dark!!

Do it!
I've been tempted by this lately, too. My attempt to run through all four Souls games last year ran aground on Demon's Souls, but I think I might play through this one and circle back to that one later.
I got to the silver knights on the stairs in Anor Londo and the fireball firing priest guys inside, down the stairs and I think I just needed a break.
Anor Londo has been a major skill test both times it's been in the games.

Yeah, i deleted a post yesterday going on about some of the stuff that's making me not like this game so much. I've loved a lot of the series mechanically, despite a lot of issues with it. But that room (I'm pretty sure it's the one I'm thinking about - entering in up high on a narrow area with stairs to your left and flat balcony to your right) is one of those things that I had even forgotten about, but knew was one of those problem areas I've had with the game. Summoning for boss help happens outside, but you have to fight through a single room filled with ~20 enemies (and a mix that makes it take a long time to do so) and on top of that, it seems people love to invade there, since that happened 2-3 times to me. All the wrong types of frustrating. I think I eventually just cleared everything out and then summoned. But I think it still took me 2 tries (of having to do the same thing) after that, and I think I just ran past everything on the last try.
And right before (or after - I think you can do it either way) Anor Londo is the boss that is the easiest in the entire series if you pick up and use the weapon sitting in the back of the arena properly.
I'm currently a few areas shy of the end, but also right at the end of Ariandel

Wait... which boss?
Yhorm the Giant using...
Storm Ruler's special ability, which is to charge it up with wind and then unleash a vertical attack that apparently can reach as high as is needed for any task. It does 4000+ damage per direct hit on his head and staggers him, which gives you the ability to either run in and hit him on the head some more (weak spot) or charge up again. I've successfully helped about 6 people there, as a 2nd or 3rd person with the same sword makes the battle trivial, at worst.
Without that strategy, I imagine the battle would take 30 minutes for a melee build, given how little of the health bar you take off when slashing at his ankles. I attempted him twice and then said, nope, I'm missing something and went and looked up what I was missing.

Big Giant Dude. There are two major ways (an NPC, and the weapon) to make him a cakewalk.
All this talk of bosses is making me think back on all the FROM games and their respective bosses.
Started making flowcharts for mandatory routes in the game (barring keys/covenants/etc)...
Man, what a complex web. And makes me want to do a replay of all the games, but I'd have to get Dark Souls Remastered at this point to do so.

Hell of a good idea. DSR is great!

I think the confusion here was the thought you were talking about the two bosses in Anor Londo. Definitely not the easiest of bosses but I see how you worded it now. The real boss before Yorhm are those damn prison priests.
Who said Dark Souls 3 was a hard game?
I just finished a quarantine project of playing all 3 Dark Souls games in order (with some but not all DLC). I never do things like this, so I was amazed to stick with it. I mixed up the builds for fun and variety:
DS1: Faith build
DS2: UGS build
DS3: Pyromancy/Straight sword
With all three games fresh on my mind, I think both DS2:SOTFS and particularly DS3 get short shrift. Yes, they both have their weaknesses and may not have the same spark of originality that DS1 had, but they more than make up for it with their own mechanics, vision, and storytelling. I actually liked DS3 much more this time than on my first playthrough and found some of the level design to be fantastic (looking at you Grand Archives). As with all Souls games, there were some levels that I absolutely hated (looking at you Demon Ruins).
It says a lot that I'm looking forward to another playthrough...at some point.
What DLC did you skip? I like the DS1 DLC and the Sunken King DLC for DS2. Haven't finished any of the others yet. Finally doing the DS2 DLC areas (in SotFS) is something I've put a lot of time into during quarantine, as well.
I recently replayed all of the Dark Souls games with DLC, and I still think that 3 is my favorite.
I love the interconnected world of 1, and 2 had some great DLCs, but only 3, IMO, brought together everything for the best overall package.
Fedaykin, you should definitely try the DLCs for 3, I think they're great.

I have started the first one, got a decent ways into it. I do need to pick it back up. That save is on PS4, so I have to make a plan to play it. Every day I turn on my Xbox, but I only turn on my PS4 if I'm planning to play a particular game.
The Dancer of the Boreal valley is down. Fantastic fight.

Yeah, it's definitely a highlight. Looks very cool and all the hitboxes are on point
