NCAA college football 2016-17: Official thread

Yeah, good get on Robertson. UGA certainly isn't a bad academic school but it is no Cal. I would love for the Dawgs to get every 5 star talent in the state, but if we miss, much better if they go far, far away.

Ha...good atitude. Right, and not knocking UGA as a school, but neither UGA nor Notre Dame are Stanford or Cal.

Yup, especially considering he wants to study Engineering. Hell, considering that UGA's young engineering schools is the worst of his four finalist by far, I'm actually surprised it was evidently as close as it was between Cal and UGA.

Good on him. I knew school was important and I did hear about stanfurd. Didn't know he was looking to go into Engineering.

ESPN 2016 SoS Rank

Projecting a 5-7 record for Cal, which is really like Undefeated since there are 8 Pac-12 teams in the top 20.

Bring on the Quality Losses!!

Just in case y'all needed more fuel for your eSECpn conspiracy theories, 7 of the top 13 are in the SEC West.

Well, duh. They have to play each of the other "should be in the NFL they are so good" SECw teams.

What the heck is going on at TAMU?

First you had the twofer QB transfers to start the offseason.
Now your stud QB recruit decommits.
If that's not bad enough, the WR Coach then subtweets the kid, essentially calling him soft.
THEN a WR commit decommits, citing the coach's tweets.
Finally, another WR prospect decides to drop A&M from his list, again citing the coach's tweets.

Lessons:
Recruiting is weird.
Fans probably shouldn't consider a kid committed until he signs an LOI.
Adults should never tweet at or about recruits.
Coaches?? Wow.

I hate recruiting.. the fact that I follow it as closely as I do for Cal kind of makes me sick to my stomach. Cal has been burned by decommits pretty recently (Shaq Thompson, Jordan Payton) when the Great Traitor Tosh Lupoi left Cal after the HS Army game but a week before signing day and we lost those guys.

Never tweet at recruits is really the answer. I'm sure Cal twitterverse has had its share of stupidity but reading the tweets directed to Demetris Robertson after he declared to Cal are downright disgusting.

The WR coach was dumb for what he did, but - that QB has been backing off his commitment for some time, recently taking a trip to OSU, and saying he intended to take all his officials. I think we can all agree that's not what it means to be "committed".

The WR who removed A&M from his list of potential schools? He's the adopted brother of that QB.

The other decommit is the only guy we've potentially lost in all this, although the word is that the coaches have smoothed things over with him today and he may even come visit campus again this weekend.

Again, dumb move by the coach, who has now tweeted an apology.

Its about as committed as anyone should expect from a 17 year old with his whole life ahead of him. I'm probably just jaded from what happened to Cal a few years ago and the sure thing that was the Rose Bowl in 2004, but until the fax is in, I wouldn't count on anything. ESPN, Social media and internet obsessive fans just make it worse.

Well, at least he owned it and didn't claim that he was hacked...

Edit: Sumlin should take away his phone.

Trouble for A&M?

Hoppa! It's good to see you posting! I was a little concerned that consecutive losing seasons - with not much hope for improvement this year - might have done you in.

Stay with us, chum! It's always darkest before the dawn.

Ugh, hate the underbelly of our fanbase.

To change the mood, I told you guys about former UGA WR Chirs Conley, who directed a Star Wars fan film.

Well, Malcolm Mitchell, who was just drafted by the Patriots, has published a children's book and just geeked out about books with Reese Witherspoon on twitter.

Ha! Remember the 90's when A&M could barely win a game? That was awesome too. The Horns will be back...once they recruit an actual QB at some point. I hear there's some stud QBs available suddenly.

Seriously though, I hope Strong can turn it around this season or he'll be out. The Exes won't put up with another losing season, even if we do beat OU again.

The '90s were a long time ago, and they're hard for my aging mind to recall. What I am pretty familiar with is the right now, where A&M is better than UT in pretty much every sport but Quidditch.

And I'm not hating, I have an A&M Quidditch shirt my mom got me.

Just pointing out everyone has their ups and downs. Both schools have gone through a few rough patches over the years and have bounced back. UT will be back soon.

Ags talk a lot of yang now, but they still won't play the Horns and back any of it up. You'd think now would be a great time to beat up on the Longhorns a bit. Or at least close the gap on the series record a little.

Hoppa - I'm going to assume you're committing a fairly common, honest longhorn fan mistake here. When we left, we negotiated with the SEC to keep Thanksgiving week open for our game with y'all. Deloss Dodds refused to play us.

Hey, look, here's a neutral third party-written article that includes Dodd's famous line about how UT's schedule was booked too solid to play us:

http://www.sbnation.com/college-foot...

It also includes some other hits like one of our regents saying that we should play again because we need more cupcakes on our non-conference schedule, and Charlie Strong's famous quote about being afraid to come play in College Station that got immortalized on a t-shirt.

Really, this is great entertainment, and I encourage everyone to read it.

My husband is at work and isn't here link it for me, but I read an awesome article about first round draft pick Eli Apple this morning.

His mother wouldn't let him accept any of the offers of diamonds and Rolex watches to borrow for his draft appearance. She called him an "unemployed college dropout" and said that she wouldn't have him wearing a Rolex on national television.

I love it.

Still hate all of you.

Yeah, Dodds was a bit power-mad. No argument there.

I could have sworn I read articles back in 2011 with A&M suits saying they had no intention of playing Texas for the forseeable future. Your article, clearly written by an Aggie sympathizer, doesn't mention it and I haven't been able to dig up the reference myself. Obviously the Aggie swarm has scrubbed those comments from the innernettes to make themselves look better.

You win this time, Fedaykin, but I'll be back!!

*Helicopters off to volcano lair, laughing maniacally*

I lol'ed. Good sportsmanship, Hoppa!

Carl, you have some explaining to do.

Very bad news for Bama, as arguably their best offensive player, OT Cam Robinson, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor drug possession and felony possession of a stolen gun.

Obviously we need to wait to see if there is any merit to the charges, but I can't imagine Saban keeping him on the team should the charges be valid.

Robinson is a huge part of the Bama OL. He is a top 10 talent and could have gone pro after his freshman year if he had been allowed. If there's a silver lining, it's that Bama is not hurting for 4 and 5 star backups, but the OL is not as deep as Saban would want.

I feel for Bama fans, as this is not what you want to see over the summer. Sucks when kids make bad decisions.

Just in case you aren't keeping up with it, the eyes of the nation are finally turning to the epidemic of rapes occurring at Baylor, many (five nine reported so far, with at least one conviction) at the hands of football players.

Burn that mother down.

Indeed.

The scary thing is, that's probably not the worst thing that's ever happened to a Baylor athletic team.

The f*ck is wrong with people?
