Gears of War 4

Pages

Probably my favorite gaming franchise of all time, Gears is returning and they have this amazing teaser trailer:

and the closed beta begins on 4/18 (open on 4/25).

I remember back in the day for Gears 1 I connected with quite a few cats here on the forums and we had a ton of fun playing. Gears 2 saw me move away from the game's MP. Gears 3, however, is my favorite MP game of all time and I am absolutely crazy excited for the new game. Who's with me?

I'm still sad that Dom died...

Man, Gears of War Land just can't catch a break.

This is also my favorite franchise and I am extremely excited for this game.

So... about that shotgun...

I have never been a big Gears fan, but the Horde 3.0 stuff sounds like crack to the recovering Mass Effect 3 MP player in me after reading this article on Polygon.

Well, the game is 3 weeks away. They've released a new "gameplay" trailer.

I can't really express how excited I am. Gears of War is by far my favorite franchise and the old Gears and Beers Fridays are some of my favorite gaming memories. It's a shame Gears 2 kinda killed a lot of the fun because Gears of War 3 MP was so polished and felt so good. Hopefully Gears 4 MP and Horde is as good. The beta had me a little uneasy, but all the new gameplay footage coming out has me super hopeful again.

Do we have a rough idea of the GWJ contingent for this? I've already pre-ordered, because I love Gears, so having plenty of other players on Friday nights would be awesome.

I've preordered as well. Playing through the first three Gears and really enjoying it. I would like to have some beer on a Friday night while killing some horde!!!

I pre-ordered the Special Edition Xbox One S and the branded Elite Controller for this! So that's my level of excitement.

I haven't got as far as ordering an elite controller, but I did pre-order the console. I really don't know why, since I just got the Elite Console last year, but it's Gears. I had to. (Also, I was unemployed when Gears 3 released and I saw a guy picking up a Gears 360 during the midnight launch and thought to myself "One day. I'll be able to do that." So there's that, too, I guess.

I will definitely be on for some Gears and Beers. Not every Friday, but often. I'm on EST. I'll be in for Horde and versus MP. We've all been so out of the loop, maybe there won't be a huge skill gap between us old timers when this releases. Haha.

Can't wait for this game to come out! Going to try to finish up the xbox live integration piece for ruingaming.io before this.

Is there cross play between PC and Xbox for this?

I believe I read that there will be some form of cross-play. I think it's only certain game modes and only on Private games.

Is anyone getting the ultimate edition and playing this 4 days early?

The only limitation according to the devs for cross-platform play is no competitive multiplayer. All other modes are supposed to work just fine.

Which works great for me since I have no interest at all in the competitive anyway.

Co-cop campaign and then Horde all the way.

I'm interested, but sadly Friday nights are likely out for me.

Between my physical collectors edition and the pack in for my GoW branded Xbox One S I'm ending up with 2 copies that I spend over $500 for and I don't get to play early.

Wish there was a way for Microsoft to fix this.

You don't get to play early? I was under the impression that the Console was releasing on October 6th, so that you could Pre-load for the midnight release on Friday.

(I know for a fact that gamestop is releasing it on October 6th)

That's not entirely true. The Ultimate Edition ($99) is being released on Oct 7th. The regular edition is on the 11th for both PC and console.

Anyway, I think I have my answer. If no one's getting Ultimate, then there's no one to play through co-op + horde with me till the 11th. So no point for me.

On the latest Rebel FM podcast they talk about it. Private versus works too, just not matchmaking.

Edit: And it's a bummer that the Amazon Prime pre-order discounts don't apply to digital codes.

Dak I got the Ultimate version. I'll play it early with ya.

Granted that's just two people. They want five now for Horde I think.

I'll be getting it on the 7th. Gears is one of those franchises I cast all my gaming morals aside for and just dive head-first. Special editions? I'll buy em! Micro transactions? Hand em over! Season passes? Don't mind if I do!

I feel a little dirty after, but whatever. I got to kill suckas with a rainbow shotgun in Gears 3, so it's worth it!

Edit: And it's a bummer that the Amazon Prime pre-order discounts don't apply to digital codes.

Which is why I am tempted to buy the physical copy despite not having an xbox one.

Then... what would you do with it?

Well its buy once play on either platform no?

If you buy it digitally or get a code for the store, yes. The game has to be linked to a MS account for cross-buy to work.

If you buy a disc then no. You can't suddenly put Xbox One formatted discs into your PC.

That's why Evil was complaining about the Amazon discount only applying to physical copies.

Only digital.

I just assumed I could put in a serial code in xbox live or whatever that comes with the physical disk. If you can't then that is another page or two that Microsoft can learn from Valve/Steam.

There was a route to this back when MS wanted to tie disc games to your Xbox account with exactly just such a system... but we all know what happened with that.
