Titanfall 2 Catch-All

Is that a new mode?

No, it's a card-based mobile game. I typically hate most mobile games, but this one is a ton of fun.

Is it? I heard it's pretty typical f2p stuff. I haven't touched it, but my TF urge is strong.

I don't play games like this, typically, which is why maybe I'm okay with it, but using cards to drop down pilots and titans, and then see them behave exactly like they do in T2, is a blast.

So this is pretty great.

Also, it looks like the next few months will get mostly bug fixes and QoL updates.

Yup. Been playing it here and there, fun little time waster that really nails that Titanfall feel.

Cool, Trying it now. Looks fun so far.

EDIT: I didn't realize it was a head 2 head game. I was hoping for a single player RTS or turn based RTS that I could stop playing mid turn to work then come back to.

too bad, it looks fun.

Playing it as well. It replaced Hearthstone as my mobile game go-to.

It doesn't feel like a multiplayer game to me, honestly. I just log in, play a match or two when I have time, and that's it.

I reinstalled this to give it another chance. Yes very Clash Royale but with control points!

Like with Clash I'm steamrolling all my early opponents without really knowing what I'm doing yet. To the point where I think these early opponents are just AI scabs masquerading as noobs.

Still... it's fun so far. The daily and match rewards don't feel too stingy. I've been given enough resources to upgrade cards and I'm getting pretty valuable cards or useful common dupes at a steady rate.

(FYI: talking about Titanfall: Assault, not Titanfall 2 proper. Guess it's veering into off-topic...)

Haha, I figured it out a sentence or two in. I still load it up every day or other day, and find it a fun way to spend 5 minutes.

Titanfall 3 will contain loot boxes that drop in from orbit.

By 2020 Respawn is closed and Zampella and West have to form yet another studio.

While it's not ideal, I don't think Titanfall 2 exactly blew up the sales charts, right? This probably actually gives a solid chance at a Titanfall 3.

It's more likely they want the Star Wars game they're working on though I expect Titanfall will be given another chance.

mostly due to EA torpedoing it on release.

I completely forgot they were doing that.

And if EA's direction is loot boxes I don't have much hope for that, either.

They just choose to release it the week after Battlefield 1.

No big deal.

Completely idiotic release date, but don't think it was a conscious attempt a year beforehand to torpedo Respawn enough to buy them. I've seen in a few places that someone else tried to buy Respawn and EA had the right to match the offer; in the interim, they chose to close Visceral and then buy Respawn, looking like they traded one studio for another. Still skeezy, still unpleasant, but my take on the idiotic Titanfall 2 release date was somebody in marketing convincing themselves they had themselves a Battlefield/CoD killer and they were going to prove it no matter what.

Wasn't it also a week before that year's CoD?

IIRC, it was the week right between the two. I think it was BF1, TF2, CoD. BRILLIANT.

I haven’t played any TF2 MP much since Frontier Defense released. Anything new to the scene?

I don't know about the MP anymore, but the SP campaign for TF2 was excellent. I give TF3 a go for that alone.

Concur. Great single player game.

I’ve enjoyed the MP too from time to time.

I still play multiplayer as much as I can. The SP was phenomenal, but I really enjoy MP a lot too.

I finished the single player yesterday evening. I quite enjoyed it, and thought it did some interesting things.
In particular, I was impressed by 'Into the Abyss', the level in the factory and - of course - by the time-travelling/platforming bits in 'Effect and Cause'. (The latter mission would have made even more of an impression on me, if it wasn't for the fact that I'd enjoyed a similar experience last year with Dishonored 2's 'A Crack in the Slab'.)

I just wish that the game had let me do more with/in the Titan. It felt like all of the interesting and novel gameplay was reserved for Pilot Cooper alone; relegating BT 7274 to transportation and boss battle duties. It became a little frustrating to be pulled out of the Titan yet again to do another on-foot mission. It was only one of the later missions, 'Trial By Fire', that I felt I was really using BT to his full potential.

My other minor grip was with the various Titan loadouts, which were a bit too game-y for me. By the end of the game, my Titan is able to switch between 8 loadouts - each seemingly with infinite ammo. I felt that this reduced the strategic depth of the game. Limiting players to only 2 loadouts at any one time would have made the boss encounters much more like puzzles (like Dark Souls bosses). Limiting ammo might also have been a worthwhile option.

It also felt excessively game-y to require my Ultimate attack (downward direction button) to charge up first. Surely any mech designer worth their salt would have pre-charged their weapon's best, er, weapon? But no, in video games the opposite is always true.

Rumor going around that they're about to launch a f2p battle royale mode.

I was reading about that. Honestly, that may not be a bad idea. I preferred the PvP parts more than the titan game types. And having individual characters with distinctive styles and aesthetics might be neat, that was a fun part of TF2. Depending on how well supported and designed it is, it might have some legs.

In. 5000%.

I've not been able to get in to BR in other games yet for whatever reason. But the TF world of mechs would be amazing, plus all the fantastic parkour elements in an open map.
