American Gods will return for a second season

I was under the impression it was a one season series that encompassed the book.

I haven't read it though. Is this good news?

Nah, at the rate they're going I'd say three to five seasons without much additional content. But there are sone natural stopping points that I'm sure the writers will use.

I've only seen Ep1. I'm thoroughly impressed. It does deviate from the book a bit, but in some very interesting ways.

Neil Gaiman gets credited as Executive Producer for the first episode. I would bet that Neil is totally ok with the changes. It might have been Neil's idea.

I'm currently reading Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology book. Because of that I understood everything that happened in the Viking prologue from episode 1. Good stuff.

Yeah, from my understanding, they wanted to address some of the ways the country and our lives have changed since the book released (cell phones, for instance). Also, certain names in the book that are a wink are just downright obvious when said aloud.

Obtusely obvious spoiler incoming...

Spoiler:

"Low Key" Lyesmith

It's funny you mention that part about the name being said out loud. When I first read American Gods, I had that lightbulb go on over my head. I literally had to go back several pages and re-read his name. Then I was like "Holy crap. That was Loki."

Gillian Anderson is a godamned chameleon on this show.

I've been really enjoying it, but I thought episode 5 knocked it out of the park finally.

Spoiler:

Crispin Glover was just so out of left field and in my ball park of loves.

Yes. I thought her Lucy was good, but her Bowie was amazing. I'm sure it helped that she's bidialectal.

How has the title of this thread not been changed to "You're an a@#hole, dead wife!!"? I agree that the Mr. World reveal was great even though I knew the actor was going to be in the show. A hell of an episode.

Good call! Been falling behind because we've been out of town a bunch. But I am caught up again and will try to update the title sooner going forward.

I just kept waiting for Mr World to tell Shadow that he was his ... Density.

I'm enjoying it so far for its style, but my big frustration is that I still don't know anything about these characters and the show is not doing a good job so far of telling me who they are. I got the sense the introduction of Mr. World was supposed to be a big deal. Since I have no idea what god he is the only impact was, "hey it's George McFly" which pulled me right out of the show.

I'm along for the ride for now, but can see myself flaming out without a little more actual story or exposition.

I think you meant undead wife. Please fix that. It's making me crazy.

"All work and no play makes Homer something, something."

I started to fix it, but I kept seeing "dead wife" in articles. So I just rewatched the scene. It's "dead wife."

I could have quoted the full "You're a f*cking asshole, dead wife," but he says it without the f-bomb, too. So there is no need to add it to the title.

OIC. I didn't realize that it was a direct quote. I'm at least 2 episodes behind.

It no longer makes me crazy. But in my head it's still undead wife.

Just finished the book the other night. I can't wait to see this week's episode!

I love this show.

Spoilers!!! I haven't watch it yet tonight!

A leprechaun, jinn, and zombie walk into a bar.....

This week's episode was great. I loved that the Laura Moon actor also played Bessie. I think it worked really well. I'm bummed there's only one more episode, although it looks like a doozie given the preview. Can't wait for Kristin Chenoweth!!!

The last episode went up tonight, so I watched it. It's quite good, but I'm left feeling like this whole thing was just half a season.

Well, having read the book and knowing there was one episode left, I felt like they are on a pace for three seasons.

And I loved the last episode, stretching out Mad Sweeny's arrival in America over the entire episode, instead of just the opening bit they've been doing for the other Gods. Not sure he is worth the extra time, as a character, but that was an awesome story that pretty much stands on its own.

Starz did half seasons with Black Sails so i assumed they were doing the same here...

They've diverted his story from the book so no telling what they have store for him. It was really well done.

Don't get Mr. Wednesday angry enough to say his own name. You wouldn't like him when he gets that angry...

Honestly, it felt a bit out of character for him to get so emotional about it. He's a seething kind of anger guy - I would rather have him lift a drink and give a long squinty stare before saying "My name is ..." (take a sip) "..."

Slim Shady

I'm a bit curious as to how many people watching the show didn't know who Mr. Wednesday was.

I get the impression that the end of the episode was them wanting to end the season on a cliffhanger/reveal and that's what they went with. Plus Mr. Wednesday is going to war.

I knew he was Odin after Mad Sweeney said he was old one eye or something like that.

Yeah, and Czernobog called him 'Wotan' a bunch of times.

Or that the fact he said that Wednesday was his day? Still the conceit is that Shadow didn't know which even within the book also bugged me because he had spent his time in prison reading.
