Unravel (Xbox One OR PC)

Anyone play it yet? Do you have thoughts?

It has been getting average reviews across the industry, so it doesn't look like it is going to achieve the level of hype post launch that it recorded at E3.

I've played the first two levels through EA Access and enjoyed myself. It certainly looks beautiful. I found it to be a little slow at times, but I think I might just be used to faster platformers.

What do you all think?

I haven't picked it up yet, but I did show my wife the trailer for it and she thought it looked beautiful. I think it may be out on the PS4 too, I'm pretty sure that's where I watched the trailer. Maybe it's not released yet on that platform?

It's out on the PS4.

Ori and the Blind Forest was my favorite game last year so apparently I still love platformers. I'm in the mood for another one and after reading the Destructiod review I think I've made up my mind to purchase. It just looks so cool.

Yeah. I'm just an idiot and forgot the third platform.

I don't know that it compares with Ori and the Blind Forest gameplay-wise. That game was a masterpiece. It sure is gorgeous though.

Yeah Ori was spectacular (I can't wait until they release the extended content). I know this will be more of a slow puzzler but it still looks solid in its own right.

Agreed.

I spent some time playing the levels with my boys the other day and we passed the controller every death and we enjoyed figuring out the puzzles and doing the plat forming challenges.

We hate crabs now though. Ha!

These puzzles are harder than I imagined they would be. My brain may not be wired this way. Gorgeous game however. I am in for the long haul even if I need walk-through help.

Yeah, played the first two levels with my daughter last night and it's a great pass-and-play couch game. Love the overall chill vibe of the game, great audiovisual aesthetics.

Bought this for the charm & visuals alone, the backgrounds are stunning along with the music that is beautiful & relaxing.

Yarny is well modelled with the cool little touch that his yarn unwinds as you go forward, it ties into the gameplay nicely with being able to tie knots & use the thread to lower yourself off ledges.

Enjoying it so far.

The physics in this game are seriously frustrating. Some of these puzzles lean on those physics pieces so heavily that doing what you want to do is nigh impossible. I am otherwise really liking it, however.

Rise, olde thread!

This game is now in the EA Access vault (hence, free) and I finally got around to playing last night.

Oh man is it beautiful. While Mrs. Abu and I watched the intro, I was thinking "man, this looks nice, but there's no way that's what the actual gameplay looks like"

Wrong. It's EXACTLY what the gameplay looks like. Also, love the sense of humor the game has. I am not a big platform/puzzle fan, but this game has me hooked. I will certainly play through until the end.

I posted in the "What games have you beat lately?" about this. I absolutely loved the game and beat it in 2 days using my 7 day trial to EA Vault. Even if I had paid full price for it, I would still highly recommend the game.

I had started this many months ago, passing the controller back and forth with my son (who was 9 at the time). For me the best thing about the game was the artistic aspect of it - the look, the music, the emotion expressed my yarni. Some of the puzzles were interesting and clever. I agree with Garth that sometimes the physics got in the way.

Most of the time it was obvious what to so, but there were multiple times where I missed something. Eventually you start to get accustomed for the type of things to look for - usually something to grab and move to give you a boost.

My biggest gripe with the game is the checkpoints. Most were OK, but there were some that put you just before a tedious, straightforward and easy sequence. There was no reason to make the player do that entire sequence again. Some of the timed sequences were a little frustrating due to the fact that yarni isn't the most nimble character to control.

From a game play standpoint, it definitely wasn't one of my top puzzle / platformers. Artistically it was beautiful.
