Firewatch, Single-player first person adventure game developed by Campo Santo (also of Idle Thumbs podcast/network fame) as their game development debut.

"Firewatch follows the story of a volunteer fire lookout in the aftermath of the Yellowstone fires of 1988."
Mystery and exploration seem to be the order of the day, at least in the early game.

June 2015 Trailer

Folks, please be generous and thorough with your spoiler tags. At least for me, a game like this whose core enjoyment is in the mystery and exploration can be undercut by spilling the beans. Thanks in advance and fellow posters, feel free to mention anything you think steps outside these bounds. Let's try and not spoil anyone's fun.

Tuesday can't get here soon enough, although disappointed I can't pre-order this on Humble. Hopefully it shows up there at launch.

Looking forward to it. After playing The Witness together my wife was asking what else we could play like that. Showed her this so now we have our next game.

I just found out about this game through the Steam sale list. Definitely looks like something right up my alley. If I ever finish/burn out on FO4, this is on my short list of games to get next for sure.

Day 1 Perch

Buying this on PS4 as soon as it's up, along with the theme for it.

If I could buy it on the Xbox, they'd already have my money. Been following this one for a while.

I've been excited about this since seeing the art (this article from Polygon got me hooked). Glad that it's coming out soon!

This one looks really really intriguing. Probably the only thing that will make me take a break from XCOM2 and Darkest Dungeon. Haven't had a chance to look and see if the review embargo has broken for it. Anyone know how its critical reception is going?

EDIT: I post that, pop over to Twitter, and the first thing up is a RT of IGN's review, "Firewatch is amazing & might be the best-written game I've ever played."

RPS Wot I think: "Goodness me, what a wonderful post-game feeling. Firewatch is a simply beautiful game: beautiful in its presentation, in its sadness, in its pace."

The biggest complaint I've seen is that it's quite short (~4 hours), but overall it's getting pretty good reviews. Reddit review thread:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comme...

I kinda figured it would be short seeing as it looked like an adventure game in the style of Gone Home. Perfectly ok with this since it means I can get back to Diablo 3 by the weekend

Pre-load is up. It's not super necessary since it's only 1.3 GB but still.

I had no idea this game existed, now I really want it!

I was planning on getting this for PS4 but then I saw this and now I might have to get it on PC instead.

Something Phaedrus doesn't want you to experience

I've been antipicating Firewatch since seeing teasers last year, and the RPS review sealed the deal for me. Now I just need to set aside 5 or 6 hours to play it through in one sitting.

Those two quotes and it being approximately four hours in length has me excited. I'll revisit the value proposition after I've played, as $20 for four hours could be a little high for me, but the idea of shorter, heavily narrative driven games becoming more common is something I'm all for.

Portal was effectively $20 for 3-4 hours at launch (I think), if anyone needs a point of comparison.

Good comparison! I got Portal in the Orange Box, so I was spoilt. But from memory $20 for that experience seemed fair.
If the production and story of Firewatch is anywhere near a decent movie I'll be happy I guess.

I think playing it one sitting could be rewarding, could do it with my wife in tow til... But I'm not sure I can wait until the weekend to do it.

This will be my after-work game for the week. Let's just fast-forward 24 hrs already.

Preloaded. Let's do this.

I didn't realize how excited I was for this until it went up for pre-order last week. I think this is the first game I've ever pre-ordered in my life. Count me in as excited for the shorter length too. If this was a longer game I probably would have just waited until a sale or thrown it on the pile for a year or two from now. But I can make ~4 hours of time this week no problem.

I wonder if Firewatch will bump out my wallpapers from The Witness I have plastered all over my devices...
Pre-Loaded! I'll try and play it all after work tomorrow, just remembered we have visitors staying on the weekend, so playing it with my wife probably isn't going to happen in a timely fashion...

Literally laughed out loud as I read the press quotes on the side bar of this page.

Just to make sure my memory was accurate, I used Wayback Machine: Yup, $20. Although I'm sure most of us got it via Orange Box.

Those are pretty awesome. Better than the ones Toby Fox pulled for Undertale

Damn. I was hoping this would release at midnight so I could get some time in tonight. It will be unlocked at 10 a.m. PST.

Yeah, that's pretty great.

I'll be grabbing it on PS4 and playing it tomorrow evening.
