You all think I'm going to choose Pitstop Challenge, don't you? Well, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted, but this week my glance turns to something more traditional.
Bombshell is a game featuring a retired bomb disposal expert turned mercenary in a Sci-Fi ARPG with isometric combat. The promise of experience points plus the potential for creative use of explosives has my interest piqued. Plus, the main character has a metal arm with a laser in it, and it's upgradable!
Bombshell is my game of the week.
What other explosive releases does our intrepid group have?

There's a mild temptation to just pick Rise of the Tomb Raider again, as that game was somehow more of the same without being the same as its predecessor. I'm still trying to work out my feelings on it, but my feelings are basically varying degrees of "positive". The team that ported the prior game to PC were responsible for the Xbox 360 port, and I can only assume that they are taking what can only be described as master craftsmanship to the PC version. If you've been waiting, then wait no longer (unless your budget is tight, in which case be responsible: Wait for the Steam sale).
I never got to play Jonathon Blow's debut effort Braid, and no, I won't be handing in my Games Writer card. I must confess, however, that seeing the fellow in Indie Game: The Movie has made me curious about his method of thinking and what sort of direction he plans on taking his games. Sadly, The Witness will have to wait, as instead my pick of the week goes to Final Fantasy Explorers. It's a perfect alternative for someone too stubborn to actually buy a Monster Hunter game despite being really curious about the series. My roommate and I will no doubt be spending several nights in our living room on our respective Nintendo 3DS's, hunting familiar monsters down in Square Enix's reskin of a Capcom franchise.

You'd think that a game that shares its name with a sociology term would be a shoo-in for me, and there's something to be said for a game that takes some Kingdom, some Castlevania, and adds in local co-op. That said, I'm going to skip Habitus in favor of The Witness. And yes, I'll admit that this is also like how I keep checking out new albums from bands I liked in 1999. (Were you aware that the Bosstones are still at it?)
Jon Blow's got a colorful past, and there's a reasonable chance that this new game, as a passion project funded by the wild success of his last work, is both overdone and underdone at the same time – a George Lucasian failure of editing – but I'm curious to find out.

Bombshell reminds me a lot of the Bruce Willis vehicle Apocalypse on the PS.

Tomb Raider preloaded and ready to go!
Also The Witness is apparently pretty good (and pretty), so that'll be interesting to try out.
And I'm always up for a Marvel LEGO game....
*sigh* so much for cutting back on the new games for 2016
inactive here until further notice.
Hmm...maybe Saturday Morning RPG for Vita.
I would love to find out you did NOT know this is a 3D Realms game.
How did I live before digital distribution of old, cheap games?

That's... um... not what Final Fantasy Explorers is. It's a handheld four-player co-op game focused on killing monsters, yes, but it's far more like Square-Enix's own Final Fantasy XIV than Capcom's Monster Hunter. Everything I've read makes it sound like a selection of MMO-style group dungeons shaped into a stand-alone game.

Well, hold onto your butt, because I did not, in fact, know it was a 3D Realms game. I just knew it sounded like my kind of game.
It makes me very happy to be right.

Truly? Well shucks. Just about everywhere I've seen kept comparing it to Monster Hunter. I suppose it's inevitable, like how everything is compared to Dark Souls for superficial elements.
In other news, I may actually snag The Witness seeing as Mighty No. 9 was delayed, which leaves my early February budget open (oh, wait, wasn't Gravity Rush Remastered releasing in early February?)

Forgot that SLRE was coming out this month. There's a demo up now, so we'll see how it stacks up against Dirt Rally. For some reason I started playing WRC 4 last night so apparently I'm in a forgiving mood.

I think if The Witness had come out like 2-3 years ago I would've been all over it. Sadly, the length of development has diminished a lot of my interest in it, much like its contemporary SpyParty. I'm sure it's good and I'll eventually play it but I'm just not really feeling it right now.
This week I'll be getting Order of the Thorne as a Kickstarter reward which is a retro P&C adventure game which looks like King's Quest got in a jam band with Loom or something. The team behind it had a very impressive first outing with Quest for Infamy, so I'm curious to see if they've stepped up their production further with their second game. Although I probably won't get around to it immediately as I'm in the midst of Diablo 3 Season 5, and I have a policy of giving AGS devs a couple weeks/months to iron out any kinks before I dive in (unless it's confirmed to be on a newer version of the engine). I lost 15 hours of progress in Quest for Infamy because they issued a large patch after a few months wasn't compatible with my save files because that's how older AGS versions rolled :\
I swear I'm missing something, or I need to get out more, because I can't find any political news about Order of the Thorne.
What does P&C mean in this context? I'm assuming it doesn't refer to the P&C forums here.

I think he means point and click adventure game.
Steam
Ah. That makes much more sense.
Thanks.

Yup. Point and click. You know to differentiate it from "adventure" games like Legend of Zelda and Tomb Raider or text-parser based ones
That's just too awesome.

My money, I want them to take it.

If you find a comedy url that lead to a gif of Laura Dern backing into Samuel jackson's severed arm, I and the idle thumbs crew would be pleased as punch.

Apparently it's fairly short (~4 hours) which puts it in a nice sweet spot where I can take time out from Diablo 3 and finish it over the weekend. Will report on it later.
It looks like this week will also see Final Fantasy Tactics Advance for the Wii U. And Hello Kitty's Magic Apron for 3DS. How did you forget that one?

About damn time S-E gave North America some VC love.
The original is still high on my to-play list. When I feel up to it.

doubting: I don't know if you've bought Bombshell yet, and this probably won't deter you at all if your fondness of DNF is any indication, but here's part of the opening paragraph of RPS's review.
