You might have heard mention of it a few weeks back on the Conference Call, thanks to our wonderful Amoebic, but a few of your fellow Goodjers have banded together and created a Slack chat for any GWJ member to join.
Think of it as an all-in-one chat, and instant message kind of deal. Almost like a super-modern IRC. You can use their web client and join the chat via a browser, but there's also clients for Windows, OS X, iOS, and Android. You can also choose how many notifications you'll wind up getting, all the way from "buzz anytime anyone says anything" down to "only buzz when I'm mentioned by name", and even "never buzz".
So what am I signing up for?
Quite honestly, it's a bunch of fellow Goodjers wasting the day and night chatting. Think of it like a watercooler for the GWJ site.
Ok, that sounds cool, I'm in. What next?
Awesome, welcome aboard! So the tiny downside is that Slack doesn't have a great way to do self-registration for groups. So instead, here's a Google Form for you to fill out and get an invite. We just need your email address, and your GWJ handle, and you should get an invite back from Slack within a few hours.
But I already use Slack for my job / some other reason. Can I still join?
Oh, totally! In fact, the Slack apps are practically BUILT for this! I'm personally in 3 Slacks right now, and can seamlessly switch between by work Slack and the GWJ Slack. And using the web client is just as easy - every group has their own URL on slack.com, so it's just up to you to open a 2nd or 3rd tab.
