The Expanse Catch-All

I am curious about the use of Mormons in the show. Has there been any backlash at their portrayal? Does it play a more minor part going forward? I am only 6-7 episodes into the first season.

I'm not aware of any backlash. The Nauvoo is important going forward, but anything more detailed would be spoilerish:

Spoiler:

The Nauvoo ends up getting repurposed and changing ownership multiple times. There is some conflict revolving around ownership rights, although the Mormons never get it back. Its original role as a generation ship has effects in its new roles.

"UN black site lady" - hahahaha SHE IS A GOD DAMNED TREASURE LIKE MILLER

Oh god I missed that one because of the Miller slight. Chrisjen Avasarala IS A GOD DAMNED TREASURE INDEED.

I wonder if Chrisjen’s language is going to get more “colorful” now that they aren’t beholden to network standards.

I thought they filmed it "colorful" and dubbed it in post to be beholden to network standards.

I could swear that I had read somewhere that we are going to get a more authentic Avasarala experience.

f*cking doors and corners...

f*cking Excellent.

My personal favorites from the books are:

"Meow meow cry meow meow. That's all I heard you say."
"Shut the f*ck up now, dear, the grown-up is talking."

I'm still a big fan of

spoilered cause it's in a later book

Spoiler:

Avisarala: Don't call my Crissy. I'm the goddamned acting head of the United Nations, not your favorite stripper.
AMos: Could be both.

paraphrased from memory. I feel it really goes to the core of the two characters. even if CA isn;t dropping a c-bomb in that particular dialog

speaking of which I'm also really curious if they are going to have her drop one now that it's free of censorship.

They did, but still not as colorful as in the books. Book Avisarala drops a LOT of c-bombs. Like every third sentence. to the point where not dropping them is a pretty significant indicator of the character's internal emotional state.

I am passed episode 10 at the point where:

Spoiler:

They have discovered Julie Mao and escaped from Eros

Miller and Crisjen have warmed on me considerably.
I also like the new Mars marine character that is going to be on the ship. (spoilered myself when I looked up the series online and saw a pic of her and Naomi from a later season)

It just occurred to me, the new book is coming out in a little over a month... just enough time to start a audible reread...

Thank you Fangblackbone for getting me excited about these characters today.

Obligatory Sgt Draper badassery (spoilers!):

Spoiler:

Or, Space Brienne, as she is known in our house:

That's one of my favorite exchanges in the entire series. I <3 Amos so hard core.

Crap what? I've still not read the last one.

Yeeeep. Tiamat's Wrath drops March 26th

I'm about a 1/3rd of the way through the last one - the time jump made it hard to get started right away, but now I'm in the thick of it, and it's just as nail-biting as the earlier ones.

I have Persepolis Rising in my oversized queue of kindle books to be read.

I just finished episode 8 of season 2. This show is amazing!
And watching on Prime they are swearing. So the blip about them filming with the swearing and then dubbing it out for syfy seems true. (at least as early as season 2)

Spoiler:

Did I just see the protomolkid climb into a ripped open part (presumably that they did themself) of the Roci and hitch a ride as they were leaving Ganymede?

Some of the subtle touches are just fantastic like all of the stuff regarding the ocean. (i.e. the guide that showed Draper how to practice getting her bearings on earth)

I can't watch this and not keep watching it for 5+ episodes at a time

Spoiler:

Good eye, yes you did see that correctly

Yeah I'm in s3 on Amazon and there are a ton of f-bombs.

OMG last night, s3 ep 6 I think... Amos and Prax.

Spoiler:

This is Amos. He's my best friend in the whole world. He helped me find you.

And then...

You're not that guy.
I am that guy.

This is definitely best bromance on TV right now, and it's up there for all time.

That is exactly the moment I was thinking of.

That scene 100% shows exactly who amos is. I love it. While Wes Chattum still doesn't really physically fit my own mental image of Amos reading the books, he portrays the character so perfectly and with such amazing nuance i wouldn't want anyone else playing him.

Lol. This is how crazy compelling this show is. I am watching so many episodes that they are blending together.
In my earlier post I thought I was on season 2 episode 8 but the starting point I mentioned was actually episode 9 and I then described events from 10-12. When I went back to watch I discovered I had seen everything p to the season finale. So I watched the season finale and it did not pull any punches nor did it leave 3 out of the 4 cliff hangers it could have. It was perfect where things were resolved but I am still completely engaged for season 3.

Spoiler:

We discover enough about what is going on with the Eros wreckage on Venus. Draper comes back for Crisjen. And I have to admit I'm sad that they toasted the protomolkid... I also have to admit I am glad that the UN villain guy makes a power move and is still around :)

I was so excited to see it on Prime until I realized I'd already seen season 3 and season 4 isn't quite out yet.

Love the show though and happy it is continuing.

That bit is so good, the look on the scienst's face that goes from, "I'm saved!" to oh this just got way worse didnt it

Loved it, finished season 3 last night and can't wait for season 4. It annoys me that one person in our roleplay group pushed back against the sci fi roleplay games we have done. I had to pause the one I was running for personal reasons and now won't get to go back to it.

Agreed. It took me a couple of episodes to get past the fact that, like you, he didn't match the Amos in my brain, but his acting matched perfectly the essence of the character.

I must have been looking for the spirit of the role, because I loved his Amos from the moment I saw him. He just nails the attitude and body language and all of it. Perhaps my favorite character in the show.
