Fallout 4 Catch-All 2.0

I'm ~6 hours in, here's my initial thoughts:

- Pip Boy app integration is phenomenal. Just outstanding to have all that up at the same time to glance over at.

- Game itself feels awesome. Solid graphics update over FO3/FONV.

- No major bugs so far. Only issue I've run into is stuff disappearing from my UI, mainly guns and the in-game pipboy.

I prefer this one; everything is on one page, and it has support for marking when you've found bobbleheads.

That is better I think.

Thanks.

My copy is scheduled for delivery today. I hope it actually comes. If it doesn't I won't find out until after it's too late to buy one in a store.

I will say the facial thing is very flexible.

Here are some names the game recognizes.

Spoiler:

So if you want to make Fallout 4 Mad Max Men, then you'll be heartened at how many full names work. Ken Cosgrove. Megan Draper. Roger Sterling.

Little disappointed in that list. They have Boobies, Cockerham, Fcuk face, Titties, and many more. But no Chuck.

Yeah, there's some rather obvious ones missing in exchange for the likes of Enormous Dick

No Turd Ferguson either.

Some config tips for PC users - disabling mouse acceleration, making the vertical sensitivity no longer 1/2 the horizontal sensitivity, and wider FOV.

To be fair. I think this is why the game locks at either 30 or 60 fps. To unlock the framerate you have to make INI changes, which I assume this guy did. It's still a bad design, but not broken unless you're hacking around in INI files.

Not that I have a 144hz monitor (yet) or a video card that can drive this game at 144 (yet), but if I did, I would be pretty irate that a monster blockbuster game like this can't get things like this right.

I'm hoping that this is something the crazy framerate junkies howl about and get fixed in a patch.

Base building tip I posted in previous thread in regards to resources you need:

Spoiler:

Anything you scrap within one base for parts is tied to that base only. So if you get (for example) 4 steel from a mail box, it'll be put into the workbench for that base only, and won't appear in your list of resources when you go to build something in another base. If you want to use it for another base, you need to get to your workbench and put the items into your inventory so you can then use them for building somewhere else. A little bit annoying, as it means a bit more messing about in menus and fast traveling to get things done.

For the record, 1stPersonFOV needs to be higher than the other FOV or your hands disappear. That's the FOV which decides how much of your body/gun/etc to include in the view.

Spoiler:

So is the workshop inventory different than the inventory you view when you transfer items into the magic shared inventory at any crafting station? My understanding was that there is just one big shared item bank shared between any crafting station in a settlement with a workshop.

Guess I need to find a second settlement/workshop location at find out.

3 hours in on PC and not a single crash, stutter or even bug. I am loving it!

I did pick a few perks, like the carry limit one, but I think I'll mostly focus on getting my special stats up before branching out. Don't need all 10's but at least all above 5 I think

Farley - holy crap!

UPS is still saying between 9am-1pm for delivery. That window has now expired. I wonder if I can sue for emotional distress?

So far the game has been really good about timing XP gain. I got to the first town, dinged first level, found a safe, and immediately put that point in lockpicking so I could unlock it (also, for you Skyrim fans, you can't lockpick at all until you have at least one point in the skill).

Other random tidbits for people who haven't started yet... at the end of the prologue you get a second chance to redo your character from scratch (aside from gender I think), so no need to be a scarred badass with a mohawk in 50s-land. You can 50s it up and make the transformation later. In fact, there's no reason to care what your skill point distribution is at all until after the prologue, since there's basically no skill use until then.

Also, it was incredibly pleasant surprise to find Codsworth saying my character's name correctly (Furiosa). Full points for Bethesda on that one.

So far, it is definitely a sequel to Fallout 3.

My only complaint is that the mouse feels awful. Horribly inaccurate or laggy or something. There are currently arguments going on about whether it's the acceleration or something else, but either way, I'm switching to a 360 controller tonight.

So this game is pretty fantastic and kind of difficult. I've had myfirst death already to a mirelurk and I'm just playing on normal. Playing on PC with a 970 and a 2500k at 1440 and things run pretty smooth. I've had to turn a few of the pretty bits down so that I can keep a constant 60. I've had one CTD though and it was when I died. No idea what that was about.

On another note, I have no idea what the controls for K/M are for base building. I was being attacked by some molerats the first time I hit the workshop button the first time and missed all the tutorials. Nothing I click on seems to work so I'll just dig into that later.

Not true, actually -- you can pick novice level locks (and hack novice level computers) without the perk -- I did it last night!

If it helps, there are 2 variations of Humungus (or Humongous) from which to choose.

I'm seriously tempted to make Roger Sterling, he seems like the sort of fellow who'd wander the post-apocalyptic wastelands in search of a martini.

I'm definitely going max charisma plus high enough perception & intelligence to get lockpicking/hacking out of the gate. These are the most important things to me in all Fallout games. Probably go high luck and make do with the rest.

Just go high on Charisma and take party boy and you'll be set!

Actually, the default male character looks resembles Jon Hamm quite a bit. I'm wodnering if all of these Mad Men names are super intentional (as opposed to just regularly intentional.)

The USPS website is still saying my copy should arrive tonight by 8PM even though it is not out for delivery yet, so I went and rented a copy while on my lunch break. $2.40 for the peace of mind that I will be playing Fallout 4 tonight no matter what.

Yes, and possibly Chemist, considering his illicit indulgences in the later seasons.

For those who haven't built their character yet and want a tip, teeny tiny bobblehead spoiler:

Spoiler:

The Perception bobblehead is a can't-miss that you'll find very early on in one of the first quests. Wish I'd known this, would have gone PER 3 instead of 4.

I tried that FOV trick and can't get it too work for me.

Couldn't get it to work in Skyrim either.

Thank god for this. It really annoyed me not to have these in the option screen. Now to find a fix for Vsync...
Fixing the FOV and mouse acceleration

I also can't get my iPhone Pipboy app to connect to the game. I guess I need a PC with Wifi in order for this to work? Tight now my PC is on LAN and I do not have a Wifi adapter.

Yeah, I included that in my spoiler above, as well as one other helpful item along those lines that apparently people are frequently missing.

I'll quote it just in case folks missed it earlier:

1. If you explore the ruins of your house well just after you emerge, you will get a free point to assign to any attribute.
2. You will find the perception bobblehead VERY early.
3. Don't know for sure yet, but it sounds like the rest of the SPECIAL stat bobbleheads won't be found for quite a while. Charisma and intelligence might be a little easier to get when your levels are in the teens, but the rest you probably won't find until level 20+.

Amazon arrived!

There will be nukes tonight!

There are two issues with the mouse. Mouse acceleration is turned on by default (which can be changed in the INI only), and in the link *Leigon* posted above it sounds like the Y axis scale is 50% of the X axis scale (which can also be changed in the INI). I turned off acceleration last night and the game felt pretty good. I'll be trying the Y scaling change tonight.

You have to set the FOV in 3 separate files. Try the rockpapershotgun link above.
