Rise of the Tomb Raider catch all

Credits are rolling now. Might be my goty.

Damn, I wasn't planning on trying this until like 6 months from now but all this praise is making that plan difficult. I have too many games right now already!

This game is better than those games.

I liked the first one better than the Uncharted games but I still had some issues with it. This sounds like it has fixed a bunch of those problems. Maybe I can score a Black Friday deal.

Yeah I finished it on Survivor difficulty over the weekend.. pondering trying to 100% all regions or just moving on to Fallout 4. Fantastic game that kept everything going right to the end.. nothing got old and I wouldn't be surprised if this makes it into several peoples and publications GOTY.

Can you bump up difficulty after you've started the game? I'm on the level below survivor - so far it seems a little easy. Not sure what survivor difficulty brings to the table?

I think with Survivor you are locked into it from starting the game, can't bump it down for sure, not sure about bumping it up.

If I remember correctly, the main difference was more of the stronger enemies in groups and having to use wood to light a camp site (which was absolutely never an issue), and less resources (which was honestly also never an issue).

no health regen during combat is the big difference.. you have to use bandages to regain health during combat.. only lower diffulties if you hide for a bit your health will regen.

And.. done. What a great game. I really dig how you can go full commando or stealth mode and feel great doing it either way. Finished at about 75%. At some point I'll probably go back and finish up the crypts/tombs I missed but not really interested in finding every single scrap of paper or relic. Until then, my xbone can go back to collecting dust.

Ouch!!!

Damn, that was a hell of a game. I finished at 91% on Seasoned Raider. I thought the story and its delivery improved quite a bit towards the end of the game. They put Lara in some tough situations that weren't quite as black and white as the rest of the game.

In retrospect, I think I would have preferred Survivor because resources and ammo were so plentiful the whole time. I like to have to think about that stuff a bit.

Today only, Squae-Enix online store is selling the collector's edition for $40 off (that's $109.99, plus tax, but shipping is free since it's $100+): https://store.na.square-enix.com/pro...

It's part of a "ten days of Christmas deals" series.

I know some people don't give a toss about collector's editions, but if you're into putting up a huge Lara Croft statue, I have it and it's pretty nice. (Just arrived yesterday. I'm hoping, but not optimistic, that I can get S-E to do a price correction.)

Coming to Steam in January.

Can't wait to see how this looks on PC and for more people to play it. It's an incredible game. Stunning amount of detail, density, texture work. I think it's without peer in the graphics horse-race to date on Xbox One.

Outside of one sequence (where everything was on fire) - the game has run smoothly. I know it's not 60FPS, but frame-pacing has been so consistent it feels far smoother than the 30FPS target.

I think I'm just about 35-40% through - the 3 tombs in the opening area were really cool. I can't wait to see what's next. Spectacular adventure so far.

If only Lara weren't so boring a character - they still need to work on fleshing out her character. I'm also not a fan of completely eliminating Lara's sex appeal. I'm not saying emulate the juvenile approach that MGSV took with the side-kick Quiet; however, Lara is a sexy women and it's hard to believe that her character would not use sexuality as a tool in her adventurer's arsenal. I could see that simply being more interesting than constantly seeing a 90lb women choke out multiple 220 lb armored men.

I'm about 30% in myself on Xbox One, and I am LOVING this game. PC folks, the hype is real on this one. Great, great game - the best TR to date, and a must-buy if you halfway enjoyed the last entry in the series. Everything you do just feels so satisfying, mostly due to everything looking and sounding absolutely incredible.

This is #1 on my Steam wishlist. Can't wait for it's release. The most recent Tomb Raider was one of my top games of that year. It sounds like this one has more exploration in some tombs so that sounds like a plus.

I think there may be more tombs in the first couple of areas than there were in the last game.

By far my favorite game of the year, got to it too late to modify my community list but definitely worth full price for anyone that even remotely enjoyed the last one.

This is undeniably a great game, one of the very best of the year, but I actually find myself disappointed in it a little bit after playing 10 or so hours of this.

I absolutely loved the 2013 reboot of Tomb Raider. The general consensus is that it was a good game that "had problems" but I never hear anyone articulate what those problems were and I don't see them on my own. I thought it was a tremendous action/adventure game with great combat, exploration, production value, set pieces that was paced extremely well, looked gorgeous, played smooth and was just the right length. I've finished it 4 times.

Rise of the Tomb Raider still technically hits all of the things I loved about the 2013 game, but is missing a little bit of that game's soul. It's hard for me to put my finger on exactly why, but I think the problem is pacing. I think the mixture of linear and open world that Crystal Dynamics put together here is really interesting, but in moving to a larger, more open hub based structure I think they pulled in a lot of problems inherent to open world game design. There's too much to do and it's all a little too scattered. The first game was a little more focused and linear and it really moved well. It did a fantastic job of pulling me along and with this game, I'm finding myself distracted and not as invested.

But it's still a fantastic game... I'm just not as blown away by it as I expected to be.

I sort of get this sentiment, being someone who tried Far Cry 3 and Assassin's Creed for a few hours and tossed them aside due to open-world fatigue. I don't experience the same with this game however. Challenges, tombs, etc. are there optionally, but I never find myself losing touch with the main storyline/flow of the game even when I decide to do them.

I'm pretty sure CDkeys is one of those gray market sites.

I've seen a lot of worry about how well this sold on XB1(since it could indicate that it won't get a sequel) but according to microsoft it sold over 1 mil units.

Sure it is. To me, however, a cheaper price on a game is a cheaper price on a game. The morality of these gray market sites has been done and done.

And if it is anything like the last one it will have a super long sales tail.

I'm not sure what you mean by "done and done," but if you know that plenty of people would rather avoid sites like that, you ought to mention it when linking.

Personally, I try to buy from retail outlets that I know came by the codes legitimately.

I think it really will. It's too great not to. And it is the kind of IP that the more casual gamers are still going to grab as they enter this gem of gaming.

I would be surprised if it didn't get a sequel.

Available for Pre-order on Steam. Unlocks Jan 28th.

There's a Digital Deluxe version that's the same price as the base game and the season pass together. Not sure if it includes anything else substantial though.

There's a line in the description of the deluxe: "In addition, a steady stream of outfits, weapons, and Expedition Cards beginning on Day 1 and continuing over four months will keep you customizing, expanding, and challenging your friends to new adventures." No clue how that works, or if it's different than what's offered in the base game.

I'm pretty stoked for this to hit PC; I played the previous one on PC and loved it, aside from the gratuitous graphic death animations for Lara.

I've seen one that was a little icky, but apart from that, nothing bad at all. Or, it could be because I'm just. that. good.
