Rise of the Tomb Raider catch all

Pages

Comes out very soon but I didn't see a thread. I have to say it makes me almost wish I had an Xbox 1. Really like the gameplay I have seen so far. Much more puzzles and exploration than shooting mobs of badies

Here you can watch about 2 hours of gameplay.

I'm eagerly anticipating it.

Scoot over, I'm coming in.

Day 1 for me. I really enjoyed the first, and I'm one of the extreme minority that doesn't care much about Fallout.

I very much enjoyed the reboot and I'm very much looking forward to this. Unfortunately, we don't have an Xbox One so I'll have to wait until we get one or it comes to PC.

Between this, Fallout 4 and Starcraft 2's new expansion my next tuesday is going to be BUSY. But luckily I'm taking the rest of the week off so I should be able to put some time into it. Hoping I love it just as much as the last one.

Didn't we get cloaked/pseudo-confirmation that it's coming to PS4 next fall? Or maybe I'm hallucinating.

I believe it comes out in spring for PC and Holiday season of 2016 for PS4.

Yeah, exclusivity for one full year, so probably Winter 2016.

Very excited for this game, pre-ordered. I know I'm in a small minority of people that both use and like the Xbox One and will be getting this over Fallout 4. I'm really hoping this game can do OK but coming out with little buzz against a juggernaut on a console with a tiny install base does not bode well. But luckily it's single player so who cares!

Yeah, I wrapped up the story for the first one a few weeks ago, which is something I rarely do. But no matter how often I got distracted, it always called me back. I'm at about 88%, and I hit it every now and then trying find everything. Loved it.

Really can't wait for Rise.

eh? small minority? tiny install base? Not sure you have seen the latest sales numbers.. sure its not the worldwide numbers that Sony has with the PS4 but the Xbox One has sold very respectably.

Agree though on the timing.. it's coming out against Fallout 4 and CoD BoPS III so it's going to get crushed in initial sales.. But it's a long tail game for this title since it will get eventually released on the PS4 and PC in time.

Agree, think we'll see a long tail on this game like we did with the first. I'm very pumped for Fallout 4 as well but that game will take so long (and probably be so buggy at launch) that I think I can wait to dive in. And I haven't come close to finishing Fallout 3 but completed Tomb Raider which is a rarity for me!

Reviews are out and they look solid. 9.3 from IGN, 9 from Gamespot and 8.5 from Polygon.

I'm very pumped for this game but wow does it feel like there is zero buzz around it's release!

If this was out on PC, I might have jumped into this before playing Fallout 4. I've played every Tomb Raider on PC since the first in 1996. But it's not, so... I have to wait until some unannounced date next year.

I really liked the reboot and was considering the sequel a must-buy until the exclusivity deal was announced. The One is the only platform which I don't have access to, and I've no interest in buying one for a single game.

If anyone is able to comment on the 360 version, or sees useful information about it, I'd be interested. If it's a good port then it's an option to consider.

likewise. I look forward to it's eventual second release date

There is a thread on the 360 version on GAF. I looked at some screenshots and I was impressed, but I can't comment beyond that.

I will carry the RotTR hype inside my heart. My cold, dead heart.

Count me in on the day one for this, totally hyped! There was no question this was the game to play on release and then get to FO4 whenever I wrap it up.

Xbox is doing well. MS has way more cash to deal with being Second. If PS4 was second again this console generation, we'd see the death of Playstation (or maybe it would have been sold off - or something else). I like this two player battle for "hardcore" console gamers. I like an aggressive MS (not rest on your laurels MS).

But I'm off topic - Tomb Raider reboot has had my eye for a while. I really loved the last one - it's one of those rare titles I beat. Hearing these extremely positive reviews seals it for me to pick this up. While I don't like the practice of taking cross-platform titles and making them "exclusive" - it is what it is. Sony is trying to do the same thing.

Here's another thought about Fallout 4. It's going to be really fun to see how this "mods on a console" shapes up. It might be more fun to wait and see if any really cool FO4 mods arrive that improve the game. I'll likely never play through a game as big as Fallout 4 twice, so the first time I play it, it would be interesting to see if any mods were there to make it better.

But I've really struggled where to apply my limited game budget this week with 3 releases that I like.

Well, after I wrote the above, I saw that Mods will likely not show up in any substantial form until next year.

PC Mod kit will release sometime after the 1st of the year, and then first mods months after that...on PC first with Xbox "sometime after". Then of course long after PS4.

So by the time any community mods roll around it'll be Summer next year!

Not to hate on Fallout 4 in the FO4 thread, so I wanted to come here to say it, but after watching HQ footage of both PS4, and Xbox versions of Fallout 4, I'm kind of turned off by it.

From Gamersyde's review (not the be all end all, but they seem pretty straight forward with most reviews)

- Often ugly (interiors especially)
- The framerate really suffers on consoles
- Animations from another generation
- The faces are still way too rough
- The map could be easier to read and navigate
- Not enough different songs on Diamond City Radio
- Potentially frustrating for some
- A lack of pace that contrasts with the hero's main goal...
- ... but at least goes very well with the endless loading times
- Real time combat can be clunky

So to make this relevant to this thread, it means I should pick up the superior TR experience now!

I'm picking both up but getting Fallout 4 on PC. Will be picking away at it for a long time but plan to plow through TR.

I understand that XBO owners are a minority here (and elsewhere) but even amongst that small crowd there is surprisingly little interest in what might be the best of their exclusives this season. But that might just speak to the power of Fallout 4, tough to compete against the most anticipated game this generation. Really terrible timing for a release.

I'm waiting on the PS4 version.

I detested the rebooted Tomb Raider, but this one has got me interested. Fortunately there is time from the XB1 release till the PC release to see if it really holds up.

Since the reboot and RotTR are basically extremely similar - surprised what you see as different between the two to go from "detested" to "interested". RoTTR is essentially the last game, but refined, embiggened, and some other adjective.

I'll be eager to hear your comparison (FO4 vs TR). Not in the sense they are really the same type of game - just in terms of both being simultaneously released triple A titles. Which one is just the better "product"? This is just for curiosity, not to hate on one game or another. I feel for Crystal Dynamics though, because there is so much assumed momentum and basically "granted status" for Fallout 4 that I think objectivity on the quality of the Fallout 4 product is being completely glossed over and given a pass in too many areas.

I think it's quite possible that TR is the superior game in almost every objective criteria, but it won't matter because nostalgia, momentum, bias and brand recognition are all that matters with Fallout.

Played the first hour or so last night, and wow, definitely digging the opening. Beautiful set pieces and

Spoiler:

basically a bunch of action and right into a Tomb before you even get to the first base camp spot

Today is going to be a long day of work before I can get back to this.

Yeah.. theres a good deal more open exploration and uncovering secrets and resources than the first game.. it's still fairly narrow in scope but at least the first initial area in Siberia has some space to explore around.

So am traveling for work and won't get to dig in to this until Sunday. I was weak and got FO4 for my laptop though. Really looking forward to playing this!

But given no posts in over a day not many of us are...

Well trying to keep this thread off page 4.

I just haven't had much time yet. I got about an hour in earlier today and really enjoyed the opening sections.

It's awesome so far. I probably won't dig into Fallout 4 until I finish it up its that good. At work today I just kept thinking about playing it some more.
