Star Trek: Discovery Catch-All [Spoilers]

d.) Doug Jones deserves more recognition for how good an actor he is.

I know when they did this season they didn't think it'd be the last, but tonight's episode definitely had last season of the show vibes.

I'm curious, what gave that vibe to you?

Going back and revisiting almost every season of the show, including that one Short Trek featuring Zora.

I'm glad I didn't take a bet on that ship appearing now instead of sometime next year on a different show.

I think this was my favorite episode of the season so far. Good pacing, decent mix of action and drama/dialogue, balanced ups and downs, great backstory for the villains, existing trek universe expansion (_that_ ship and some background on the

Breen

)

Still has its Discovery flaws though: a few new faces on the bridge (are Owo and Detmer on Delta shift? Where'd they go?), not enough time with the main cast that aren't Michael and Book, and for some reason I feel like every episode this season ends with an epilogue of "we did a good job today" that just feels a bit off?

You think they're going to paint over the I in ISS with a U and ship it off to the fleet museum?

They'd probably need to remove the Agony booths, among other internal changes.

Would not be surprised at all if this means we're getting a mirror episode of SNW next season.

Anyone else said "Badlands" to their TV/monitor/screen repeatedly during this episode?

I'm hoping we get to see a few Bajorans and Cardassians next week. Maybe DS9 is still there. Update on the wormhole/celestial temple. Or perhaps a nod to the Caretaker Array whisking away Voyager.

Most likely though we'll get a single throwaway line about how Sisko poisoned a planet 800 years in the past when chasing Eddington.

Regardless, good episode again this week, everything feels cohesive.

this weeks episode felt like it was Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

I finally started watching season 5 last weekend and have gotten through 5 episodes so far. I have one question that's been burning on my mind:

When did Paramount+ start actually remembering which episodes I've watched?? Finally!

Also Starfleet needs to put Michael on a tighter leash; she goes on WAY too many away missions. I'm glad that was commented-on in episode 4, but she was just like "FU I'm going anyway".

There must have been a lot of re-writing going on at Memory Alpha today.

If they are smart, they would just ignore it all and pretend Discovery is in the Kelvin universe.

Considering the epilogue was written while the season was in production I think they did a very good job wrapping up what they could. I was worried for a "Riker and Troi show up on the holodeck" moment, but thankfully that didn't occur.

Looking back now, my ranking of Discovery seasons:

1. Season 2 - Captain Pike, Spock, and Enterprise. There are still a ton of flaws this season as the show works to find its voice, but re-introducing TOS-era characters helped a lot to steer the ship.
2. Season 4 - Discovery at its peak, imo. Still had the Galaxy-level stakes but everything felt far more "real"
3. Season 5 - Very close behind S4. The villains weren't as villian-y but the story and the clue trail was, again, peak Discovery.
4. Season 1 - The show very obviously changed showrunners mid-season and every season after was in pursuit of fixing the problems started here
5. Season 3 - I love Discovery but for me the ultimate cause of The Burn was outside the realm of believability, even for Star Trek, and it overshadows the progress made in storytelling made this season. But hey we get Booker from this season

I really appreciate Discovery and how it went out to do its own modern 2020s-era version of Star Trek, which as it turns out isn't for everyone. And that's okay. I had a great time.

Man, we've got so much going on this weekend I doubt I'll be able to watch the finale until Monday at the earliest :'(

Finally got around to watching the series finale last night and... what a piece of garbage? I will give it that it had it's moments, but overall I thought it was pretty terrible.

I get that the over-arching theme of DISCO is redemption and second chances but

Spoiler:

Moll and REPEATEDLY shown that's she's willing to let millions (billions?) die because her "love" for Lock is so strong? I'm sorry, but no you don't disarm her and ask to work together. You take her off the effing playing board. Was anyone surprised that she cold-cocked Michael?

Action Suru was fantastic but I wish they'd brought back Owo and Detmer to play a part in the last episode. And what was with that last 1/2 hour? Did we need any of that?

Spoiler:

I know that leaving DISCO abandoned was to tie in with the Short Trek episode from years ago but there's no pay off if we don't know WHY. Saying it's another "red directive" is bad writing IMO.

My apologies for dumping. I did enjoy this final season and it appears I had very high hopes for the series finale and was let down

Discovery cast members cast in Starfleet Academy spin-off. Plus someone who's handy in a medical emergency.
