NFL 2015: Week 8

Carolina sprung the trap. Now can they get out of it?

Hey there's the real Ted Ginn.

There hasn't been a bigger "oh THAT'S why" moment since Pedro Cerrano swung haplessly at a curveball.

Panthers survive.

ARGH. NO. The "highest point" of the ball is halfway to the receiver. Then it starts coming DOWN.

It's the receiver catching the ball at his highest point, not the ball's.

This will never not piss me off.

Maybe "it" is referring to the receiver. Maybe he thinks receivers are things. You don't know how Jon Gruden's brain works.

Yeah that was... so very Ted Ginn.

PREACH!! I have always hated this too. Then they made it a verb (he went up and high-pointed it). Makes me twitch.

Titans are fools if they at least don't make a play for Joe Thomas.

So they won't.

Kickers seem to be doing okay: http://insidethepylon.com/film-study...

Wiz fired! THANK YOU GOD

Wow, mid-season, and not during the bye week.

Mike Mularkey interim coach.

So that was what that was about last night. Don't feel bad if the only word you understand in the video within is "locos."

I survived last night, thanks for asking.

Oh, and as a wise man said about three pages back ...

So I'm not the only one who thinks this is a trap game for Carolina, huh.

I'm picking PANTHERS but with some trepidation. The D-line is a little banged up (the subs, not the starters), which means the DEs and DTs will burn out pretty quickly if they have to rush Andrew Luck 40+ times on Monday. Center Ryan Kalil missed practice on Wednesday with an ankle injury. That'll slow down the O a bit.

And then Andrew Norwell went down. That meant Carolina was without 40 percent of its usual O-line. They plugged in Chris Scott (1) at LG until someone realized he was out there, and then sent in Amini Silatolu, the oft-injured second-round pick who's, well, better than Chris Scott.

I failed, however, to predict that Ted Ginn would DROP A PERFECT PASS FROM CAM THAT WOULD HAVE WON THE GAME OH MY GOD CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT SH!T M@#$%^&$*!R!!

I also failed to predict that it would rain the entire damn game and that two people in full climbing gear would somehow get into BOA Stadium and unfurl a banner that had nothing to do with Cam's fake smile, Andrew Luck's neck beard, the NFL's stance on any domestic issue or anything much to do with the Charlotte area in particular or North Carolina in general. (Dominion is the big power company in VA; the natural gas terminal in question is in Maryland.)

That's Panthers football this year: Good enough (barely) to win, with a big side of What in the world just happened?!

"We need to fire Whisenhunt because he can't win, but we want someone whose coaching record is even worse."

"Boss, we've got just the guy."

Enix, you failed to predict Ted Ginn would drop a pass?

Uh . . .

Are you at all familiar with Ted Ginn's career?

I like how they are no longer even pretending that “redskins” isn’t offensive and are now going down the “everyone else does it!” route. Good luck with that!

I felt the aftershock of your rage all the way in California when Ted Ginn Ted Ginn'd.

Well, to be fair, I failed to predict Ginn's whiff only in the sense that I failed to predict that the sun would rise this morning and that the Titans would fire their head coach right about the same time.

Both are obvious and go without saying, amirite?

(Honestly, Ginn has been pretty good with the Panthers, good being relative to both Ginn's career and the Panthers' receivers excluding Olsen. But that drop will do nothing to quash the Megatron-to-Charlotte rumor that popped up yesterday.)

It evened out when Kuechly caught that pop fly in OT off the bat of Andrew Luck. I'm surprised my wife and kids (and the dog and the neighbors) slept through all that last night.

The great thing about a game like that is that I'm all zen about next Sunday against the Packers. I don't think Aaron Rodgers will suck like he did Sunday (you saw how Andrew Luck suddenly remembered he was Andrew Luck), and Carolina is missing too many parts to beat a competent team right now.

Pretty emotional behind-the-scenes video from Tampa's win over Atlanta. For those that don't know, rookie LB Kwon Alexander had a monster game (fumble recovery, int, 11 tackles) less than 48 hours after his 17 year old brother was shot and killed. This video shows how the team rallied around him throughout (and after) the game.

The firings continue: The Colts jettison Luck's personal coach Pep Hamilton and give the job to Cam's first O-coordinator.

One thing I noticed about Luck (and others elsewhere have pointed it out): He doesn't run much anymore. Dude has some wheels, but he spent most of last night camped out in the pocket. The Panthers don't blitz much, but they did on nearly every play in the second half last night because they knew exactly where to find Luck.

They fired Pep Hamilton? What a weak sauce choice.

Well I wouldn't be running much with broken ribs either.

Andrew Luck threw three INTs, but he also had 14 passes defensed. Fourteen!

Only two games in Week 8 had more passes defensed from both teams combined, and those game had 15 each.

Holy hell. Luck had more passes defensed than other teams combined. Now that's gotta be more than his rib injury, right?

I know I make all my quick, under pressure decisions with my ribs.

I imagine his shoulder is still bugging him too. Doesn't help that the Colts didn't do much (anything?) for the O-line in the off-season. And all things combined certainly has to be affecting his play and taking a toll on his confidence.

It hurts like hell to put your weight behind a football throw with broken ribs. I wouldn't know this if I didn't just try it a few months ago . I know, I know, he is a pro-football player with a spectacular neckbeard and getting shots in all the right places but it is still severe nerve pain.

It means he's forcing a lot of balls (INSERT YOUR MOM JOKE HERE).
