Oh, there can be so much offending going on, but fortunately for Kansas City Washington's got them beat in that regard.

Interestingly, I do think Chiefs fans may outstrip Washington in their offensiveness on a fandom level.

If only because it's impossible to be more offensive than Dan Snyder.

I think it's a leap to go from the opinion that the Washington team name should be changed to thinking the same for the Chiefs.

Though I do acknowledge the truth in the notion that anything Native American will be taken by some dumb ignorant (usually white) people as call to play up a bad caricature and act the fool.

But still, there is no inherent racism or disrespect in the name "Chiefs", while there is in Washington's name. I think changing a name like Chiefs would only incite rancor from people convinced that there's a wave of overaggressive "political correctness" sweeping the nation. Granted, trying to get people to let go of even blatant assholish behavior incites that same response from some, but I think we're better off fighting the ones clearly worth fighting.

And maybe when the most offensive Native American stereotypes and caricatures are chased off, people won't feel so emboldened to make mockeries of the ones that remain.

Everything sounds better when called by Spanish-language sports broadcasters.

Learning Spanish has been on my life to-do list. I had pegged HBO Latino as one source of Spanish language media to consume when that time comes. I now know that I must also figure out how to gain access to Spanish language NFL broadcasts.

Any words of wisdom from those fans whose teams look to already be out of contention in late October? Maybe I need to adopt a never surrender attitude but with the Hawks blowing such winnable games I don't see them even breaking even much less making the playoffs. Tempted to jump on the Bengals bandwagon since I have family in Cinnci and love Dalton.

Edit - Regarding the Chiefs, I'm wondering if there's a way to honor Native Americans similar to how the Seminoles have the full blessing of the tribe or the Hawks incorporate Northwest tribal art in their imagery. I'd also say that you should never assume malice when it could be absolute cluelessness.

Just watch the games and enjoy them. I don't care much about the Patriots or the Colts, but I watched anyway and marveled at whatever it was the Colts called late in the game. HBO comedy specials aren't half as funny.

I'm a Browns fan...

But seriously, watch the games, watch the games of the week, and pray your fantasy teams do well.

And drink, there is always that.

Just this: if you're going to watch pro sports as a pastime, you have to learn to have fun while watching your team lose. Because any period of sustained success is temporary. The victories will always be the highs, but you have to find entertainment and fun even in the lows of losing.

I say this as the Jaguars continue to build the worst multi-season record since the expansion Buccaneers, and the 49ers fight to stave off complete collapse of their own.

Part of the problem is I pretty much have only time to watch the Hawks. May be time to bow out completely this season. But I do appreciate the words of advise/encouragement. Biggest problem is watching a team with so much talent fall apart.

Real fans don't bandwagon to other teams.

He's a Seahawks fan. They get a special exemption because they cheer so loud.

Real fans bathe in misery and become bitter and mean as they watch inferior cities celebrate championships.. Except NYC then we are just jealous.

I'm picturing a whole bunch of Star Wars fans tuning into tonight's game and wondering if it's worth the effort.

Actually, it is because Jesus loves us so much and the recovery water. Don't forget the recovery water.

I'm not completely abandoning the Hawks but the shiny chrome is gone. And at the end of the day I keep telling myself they are entertainers and if they keep playing below their ability it's ok to not be the diehard fan who goes down with the ship. It's when I buy into the whole the Hawks are my tribe (which is pretty prevalent out here) that I get into trouble.

This is so much more entertaining if one read's it in Archer's voice.

Fair enough - I'll just shut up now.

Don't forget actually making it to Super Bowl the year after that even if they did lose it. Hell at this point I'd take some excitement of just having a playoff game.

And it's not like half the team left or retired, ownership ran the head coach out of town, and they moved into this gigantic new stadium that you'd have to be a millionaire or at least *Legion* to attend more than a single game and holy crap all the angst and depression is hitting me all at once.

Thank you.

The Seahawks are one of the most entertaining teams in football, this season the games happen to end in a loss but they certainly aren't boring. Now the last Holmgren year and the Mora year, that team was dreadful to watch, no hope and no excitement. I miss when the Seahawks were a perennial 8-8 team, didn't have fake fans, didn't have a-holes making rude comments about the fans, just a team that sometimes could pull it off. The SB40 Seahawks, that was a Seahawks team that represented the previous dozen years. A team that never got any of the breaks and had a-holes making comments like "Who is going to watch a Steelers-Seahawks matchup? Yawn."

Now the Seahawks get a tremendous amount of breaks(Failmary, batting the ball out of the endzone, etc) and yet bandwagoners want to leave? Sure the winning is fun but I just wish the Seahawks wouldn't keep having these BS controversial things happening, it used to be done to them, now it's like a week can't go by without something. And I ain't no Patriot fan, I'm not going to defend injustice.

Hey, some teams would be happy to just make it to the SB for once.

This may be a case of skewed perspective. There is SO little that separates the first place team from the last place team. Everyone in the NFL can play, even if it doesn't always look like that. It takes everything coming together just right for a collection of players to outperform all the other groups who are basically just as skilled as they are. When we talk about "good" teams and players versus "bad" ones, we're really talking about a small sliver of difference, which is why so many players and teams perform above or below expectations every season. Few teams are as bad or as good as their record.

Or, to paraphrase Full Metal Jacket, inside of every 4-12 Jaguars squad is a 12-4 Patriots team, trying to get out.

And all that silver!

Back to the AFC West where you belong!

Steve Largent was good!

BTW that MNF game was dreadful...other than many Manning Faces and an ugly win it was brutal to watch.

I enjoyed the DeMarco Murray fantasy points and the Star Wars trailer.

I felt like Philly and the Giants watched the Bears-Lions game and said, "We can top that".

Came in here to SMH at the Hawk talk. As soon as I read Zappa's first comment I knew you guys could smell blood in the water. Ach.

I will say that being 2-4 takes a lot of pressure off watching. I actually had way more fun watching the CAR game than any of the others. When the only acceptable outcome is a SB berth, and vengeance over the Pats, each game takes on way too much significance. When I'm watching just to enjoy what happens (my SEA football life 1984-2012) I'm a lot happier and easier to be around.

I would also note that with the exception of MIN, PIT and 2x ARI, SEA faces losing teams the rest of the way. Don't be shocked if they're there at the end.

And bring back the 80's era unis as alt jerseys!

Indeed. A certain team that played in Seattle on Sunday went 3-8-1 last season before they rallied to make the playoffs. It can be done! Don't lose hope! Keep pounding! (No, wait, that last one is taken.)

Speaking of hopeful, Carolina from here on out faces only two teams (Green Bay and ATL twice) with winning records (the Colts, Iggles and Jints are at .500). I figure Carolina will probably whiff against GB and split with ATL, and they'll lose 1-2 more just because.

But maybe they won't.
