I would like to cast a vote for Chrono Cross! It has been on my list for awhile!
Here's what's on my JRPG backlog right now:
- Tokyo Mirage Session #FE
- Bravely Default
- Shin Megami Tensei IV
- Paper Mario: Sticker Star
- Xenoblade Chronicles X
Not sure where Zelda clones comes from as they're quite unlike those games.
The dungeoning in all 3 is Zelda-esque enough to draw the comparison. Aside from that the overall structure is different but you can see the resemblance if you squint a little.
I'll throw in my hat for XCX and Tokyo Mirage Sessions, too.
I forgot we do 5, so in addition to the two I already said I'd add Bravely Default, Dark Cloud 2 and Final Fantasy VII
I am totally online for Suikoden. I started it a few months ago, then got distracted by something newer & shinier. I've been looking for a reason to dive back in ever since.
I'm also excited to map out some more dungeons in Etrian Odyssey.
Ugh... I wish I could get "Quote does not equal edit" stamped into the top of my phone. Maybe then I'd stop double-posting.
Jeez. Everyone wants to play Suikoden.
I started on Suikoden 2 back in the day. Back when I first saw Suikoden on the shelf, it was sitting next to Alundra at the game store. I picked up Alundra instead. Whoops.
Jeez. Everyone wants to play Suikoden.
If I didn't have an irrational need to play series in order, I'd probably jump right into Suikoden II, but then I'm worried I'd lose out on some of those 108 stars.
I'm not even sure that I remember what those stars are or why they're important, but my reptile gaming brain tells me I want them.
The stars you get in Suikoden 2 aren't affected by whether or not you play Suikoden 1. But some cool little tidbits come across.

Good to know. Thanks!
I'm looking forward to crossing both off of my list this fall. It'll be cool to play along with everybody else, too. This is my first time "in the club," so to speak.

What he said! But having played Suikoden 1 and having dabbled in 2 a little, and from what I've read, having a save file from the first game doesn't really make that much of an impact; it's mostly winks and the like rather than any substantial bonuses. I don't really feel like playing through 1 again any time soon though (and I played it back in the late nineties, mind!).
Looking at all the games being bounced around, I wouldn't mind Xenoblade Chronicles X or Dark Cloud 2 getting the nod, since I have them both and have yet to beat either of them. My votes had already been cast and I won't change them, however.
Yeah I'd really love Dark Cloud 2. Game was magical when I last played it. The bingo cage shall reveal the winner!
How's the first Dark Cloud? Worth a go? If I dive right into the sequel will I miss anything?
That's a pretty nice selection. Looking at it, I think I would be down for almost any of them... Can't wait to see what game will win!

Skip the first and go straight to Dark Cloud 2.
Yup. Dark Cloud the first is OK; a decent foray into Adventure RPG territory trying to meld the 3D Zelda magic with town building and rogue-like elements (rogue-lite) that fell prey to the SONY hype machine that advertised it as its Zelda-killer (remember that suffix?). If you want to visit the Playstation 2's growing pains era and don't mind some slightly outdated mechanics, go for it. But for all intents and purposes, 2 is far superior and requires no knowledge from the first game; they don't share either lore or setting.
Suikoden is my pick.
Suikoden sounds like some sort of indigestion remedy.
I'd pick Dark Cloud 2 - always wanted to go back and give that another go at some point.
When is the draw?
What's the rule for number of nominations you can put in? I think in my previous post I listed 3.

Everyone's allowed up to 5 votes.
Unless you're voting for Suikoden. Then you only get three.
That's a good looking slate of nominations. My votes:
Dark Cloud 2
Earthbound
Secret of Mana
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
When is the voting done?
Managed to get through Persona 3 FES NG+ and get the good ending, along with fusing every uber persona and all the uber weapons... even took a stab at
Elizabeth
but that wasn't so successful hahaha. I retain a save around that part so I'll be attempting it once more in the near future.
I'm happy to say that I've enjoyed the game more this time around, well over 6 years after the first time I played through it. I hope to be able to get through The Answer and also go through P4 before P5 drops next February.
These are the top 4 on my current JRPG backlog:
Legend of Dragoon
Final Fantasy XIII
Parasite Eve
Bravely Default
And since I cannot think of a 5th game currently, I will throw my 5th vote for Dark Cloud 2 since that is such an awesome game and I never finished the bonus chapter.
